Sushila Karki: Former Nepal Chief Justice Sushila Karki was sworn in as an interim Prime Minister on Friday. President Ramchandra Paudel administered him the oath of office and secrecy at a special ceremony held at Sheetal Niwas. Vice President Ramsahay Yadav, Chief Justice Prakash Singh Rawat, government officials, army and security chiefs as well as members of the diplomatic community were present during this period.

Heads of both houses of Parliament did not attend the swearing -in ceremony of Nepal’s interim Prime Minister Sushila Karki. Despite being sent from Rashtrapati Bhavan, the Speaker of the House of Representatives Devraj Ghimire and the President of the Rashtriya Sabha Narayan Dahal boycotted the ceremony. Ghimire is an MP from CPN UML (Oli’s party), while Dahal CPN comes from the Maoist Center (Prachanda’s party). Both leaders are opposing the decision to dissolve Parliament. After taking oath, President Ramchandra Paudel told Karki, “Now save the country, be successful.” Karki did not respond to this and went ahead by saying thanks only.

‘The purpose of saving the constitution and maintaining national unity’
President Paudel appointed Karki as Prime Minister using constitutional rights. At the same time, the interim government was entrusted with the responsibility of conducting general elections within six months. The move was taken after the recent Gen Z movement and the decision of fracturing Parliament. Although there was a proposal to form a three -member cabinet, the ministerial posts could not be agreed. In such a situation, Sushila Karki will temporarily take charge of all the ministries.

After this, he received a law degree from Tribhuvan University in Nepal. Sushila Karki started practicing in 1979. In 2007, he was made Senior Advocate. In 2009, he was made a Advocate Judge of the Nepal Supreme Court and in 2010, a permanent judge was made. He served as the Chief Justice of Nepal from 11 July 2016 to 6 June 2017.

While being the chief Justice of Sushila Karki, he took strict steps against corruption. He gave many important decisions, including citizenship, scam in police appointments, establishment of fast track court and other cases related to corruption. Sushila Karki was so active that political parties saw a crisis in it. In 2017, the political parties of Nepal moved a motion of impeachment against him in Parliament, against which the people of Nepal became and then the proposal was withdrawn.

His name is Sudan Gurung. He was also opening a front against the Oli government before this social media site ban. In the Oli government, the corruption, familyism and some special people were raising their voice against the growing property, but they were not able to find the right place nor were people gathering with Sudan. When social media sites were not banned in Nepal on 27 August 2025, Sudan wrote a post. He wrote in it-

‘If we change ourselves, the country will change itself.’

Then there was no significant response to this post of Sudan in Nepal. Meanwhile, when social media was banned on 4 September, another Millennial accessed social media using VPN on 7 September and wrote-

‘Tomorrow’s rally is Jenji’s rally. No party, leader, workers or MPs should attend this rally for their personal benefits. I cannot go because of age, but I have full support.

Balen Shah was about to write this post. Balen Shah is the mayor of Kathmandu, the capital of Nepal and a famous rapper from Nepal. His fans are in millions. His age is not Jenji. If he is 35 years old, he did not go into the movement himself, but his post decided the condition and direction of the movement. His post was shared more than 20 thousand, about four lakh people reacted on that post and more than 40 thousand people commented on it, but this time the matter went beyond like, shares, comments on social media and millions of youth agreed to hit the road to Kathmandu for the movement.

‘Today is the day when the youth of Nepal will rise and say that much has happened now. This is our time, this is our fight, and it starts with us, we start with youth.

On social media, millions of Nepali youths raging from the ban were first instigated by Balen Shah’s post and then the Instagram Post of the remaining Kasar Sudan Gurung, after which millions of youth came out on the road to Kathmandu, captured Rashtrapati Bhavan, stoned the Prime Minister’s residence and made such an uproar in the entire city that the army and the police had to firing, in which the army and police had to firing. This movement became even more violent on the morning of 9 September.
