Important changes have been implemented for those traveling on the high-speed expressway connecting Delhi to Dehradun. Now the movement of motorcycles, auto-rickshaws, tractors and non-motorized vehicles has been completely banned on the elevated section from Geeta Colony to Baghpat (Khekra). This step has been taken keeping in mind the safety of passengers and high speed traffic.

The National Highway Authority has made it clear that this expressway has been designed for high-speed vehicles. In such a situation, slow vehicles not only affect the traffic flow but can also cause serious accidents. According to officials, this strict decision has been taken to reduce this risk and there are plans to implement it in future parts also.

Elevated section starts from Geeta Colony

This 210 kilometer long expressway starts near Akshardham. Its elevated part starts from Geeta Colony and goes to Baghpat via Shastri Park, New Usmanpur, Khajuri Chowk, Loni Border and Mandola. Now only high speed vehicles will be allowed in this approximately 26 kilometer long stretch. This decision has been taken under the relevant law, in which the authority has the right to ban vehicles as per the need.

Provision of heavy fine for violation

After the implementation of the new rules, if any person is found traveling on this route with a banned vehicle, then strict action will be taken against him. Under traffic rules, heavy fine can be imposed in such cases, which can reach up to Rs 20 thousand. The police have also indicated to be strict regarding this.

Continuous accidents increase concern

The increasing graph of accidents has also been a major reason behind this decision. Last year in August, two bikers lost their lives during a stunt. After this, another bike accident came to light on the opening day of the trial in December. These incidents had raised questions on the security arrangements.

Consideration continues on reducing the speed limit

Although the expressway has been designed for a speed of 100 kilometers per hour, discussions are going on to reduce it in the Delhi region. In collaboration with the traffic police, it is being considered to increase the speed limit to 70 kilometers per hour, so that safety in urban areas can be further improved.
