Australia Student Visa Rules: The number of students going abroad for studies is continuously increasing across the world. Especially thousands of students from India go to Australia every year. But now the Australian government has taken a big decision regarding international students. The government has announced a ban on registration of new private colleges and training institutes for the next 12 months. This means that now no new private institution will be able to easily get approval to teach foreign students. The government says that this step has been taken to make the student visa system strong and reliable.

Why was this big decision taken?

According to the Australian Government, for some time the number of such private institutions was increasing which were opening only to earn money. Besides, questions were also being raised regarding the quality of education in these institutions. After this, the government decided that the approval of new private colleges should be put on hold for the time being so that the system can be properly examined and bad institutions can be stopped.

Which institutions will be affected and who will be left out?

The government has made it clear that this ban will apply only to new private colleges and institutions providing English language training. The institutions which are already working with prior approval will be able to continue their studies. Besides, they can also open new campuses or make changes in their courses. Whereas government schools, TAFE institutions and public universities will not be affected by this decision. Australian officials say that their aim is to promote good and trustworthy institutions so that students can get the right education and better environment.

Government said- there will be no compromise on the quality of education

Australia’s Assistant Citizenship Minister Julian Hill said that Australia still welcomes genuine and studying international students, but strict rules are necessary to maintain people’s trust in the system. He said that in the recent past, many new private institutions were rapidly coming into the market, while the number of students in some sectors had started slowing down. The government was afraid that the opening of more institutions might affect the quality of education.

According to Julian Hill, this temporary stop will give officials time to properly examine the system. Especially in the vocational education and English language training sector, it will be seen whether more institutions have been opened than necessary. The government says that for Australia to remain recognized as a good study destination, the quality of education, student experience and proper monitoring of institutions are very important.

The Australian government has also made it clear that the doors of the country are not being closed to genuine and studying students. The government says that this step has been taken only to stop bad and fake institutions. In such a situation, students who want to go to Australia for proper studies do not need to worry much.
