Mumbai News: Taking the increasing pollution in Mumbai seriously, the Bombay High Court has filed an automatic cognizance petition for hearing in the matter. In its last hearing, the High Court ordered the state government to constitute a committee to investigate whether it is possible to ban petrol and diesel vehicles from the city to reduce pollution in Mumbai and allow only CNG and electric vehicles and present their reports.

The administration has formed a seven -member committee to study whether only CNG and electric vehicles should be allowed in Mumbai. The committee constituted on 21 January has so far held five meetings. The work of gathering information from all concerned parties is still going on.

Committee will present the final report
The state government has clarified in its affidavit that the committee will present its final report only after getting complete information. Taking cognizance of this, a bench of Chief Justice Alok Aradhya and Justice Makarand Karnik had postponed the hearing till 29 April.

The state government has expressed apprehension in the Bombay High Court that if traditional fuel vehicles like petrol and diesel are banned, it will have a serious impact on the country’s economy. Jayant Patil, Joint Commissioner of the State Transport Department, has introduced this affidavit in the High Court.

‘It is not possible to drive just electric vehicles’
Therefore, this report said that the expert committee has said that it is not possible to ban petrol and diesel vehicles from Mumbai in the near future and only CNG and electric vehicles are not possible, senior advocate Ashutosh Kumbhkoni said. Whether or not petrol and diesel vehicles will be banned in Mumbai, it will be a matter to be seen.
