After the results of the 13th parliamentary elections held in Bangladesh, the swearing-in ceremony of the Bangladesh government will be held on February 17 (Tuesday) under the leadership of Bangladesh Nationalist Party President Tariq Rahman. If we look at the election results, this is the first time in Bangladesh in more than two decades that the representation of winning candidates from women and religious-ethnic minority communities has been the lowest.

The number of women members decreased

This election shows a major decline in women’s representation in Parliament compared to recent elections. Only 7 women have reached Parliament after winning the parliamentary elections. Out of the 7 women selected, 6 are BNP candidates. The seventh woman is an independent candidate, who was expelled from the BNP before the elections.

Earlier, in the 12th national elections of 2024, 19 women had won on general seats, whereas this time this number has reduced to 7. This is the first time since 2001 that women have the lowest representation in Parliament. According to Bangladesh Election Commission data, only 84 women contested this election, which is only 4.08 percent of the total candidates.

These women candidates reached Parliament

1. BNP candidate Afroza Khanum won from Manikganj-3. He defeated Muhammad Saeed Noor of Bangladesh Khilafat Majlis by more than 60 thousand votes.
2. BNP alliance candidate Israt Sultana Ellen Bhutto won from Jhalakathi-2. He defeated SM Neyamul Karim.
3. BNP candidate Tehsina Rushdir won from Sylhet-2 by 79 thousand 321 votes. He has defeated Muhammad Muntasir Ali of Bangladesh Khilafat Majsil.
4. BNP candidate Farzana Sharmin won from Natore-1 seat.
5. BNP candidate Shama Obaid Islam won from Faridpur-2 seat.
6. Independent candidate Rumin Farhana reached Parliament by winning from Brahmanbaria-2, she got 117,495 votes.
7. BNP candidate Nayaab Yusuf Ahmed has won in Faridpur-3.

Decreased number of members of religious-ethnic minorities

At the same time, the four candidates who have won from religious and ethnic minority communities are all from Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP). In this, Goyeshwar Chandra Roy has won from Dhaka-3 seat, Nitai Roy Choudhary from Magura-2, Saching Pru from Bandarban, Dipen Devan from Rangamati. The number of minority members has also decreased. 18 minorities were directly elected in the 2018 elections. 14 minority candidates had won in the 2024 parliamentary elections, out of which 12 were from Awami League.

For the first time after the bumper victory in Bangladesh elections, Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) Chief Tariq Rahman expressed gratitude to the countrymen. He called it a victory for the country, democracy and the hopes of the people. After the victory of BNP, the discussion has intensified about how their relations will be with the countries of West Asia and especially with India. Tariq Rahman said that his party will follow a foreign policy that protects the interests of Bangladesh in its relations with China, India and Pakistan.

What did Tariq Rehman say about Sheikh Hasina’s extradition?

Tariq Rahman said that Bangladesh’s foreign policy will be decided by the interests of its people. When asked whether BNP would demand Sheikh Hasina’s extradition from India, he said, ‘It depends on the legal process.’

He said, ‘We have many challenges before us. Our economy is facing challenges and the law and order situation of the country is worrying. We have to ensure public safety. The previous government had politicized almost all the institutions, so we have to ensure good governance. He said that we will bring new investments in Bangladesh, which will create employment opportunities.

Tariq Rehman’s reaction on relations with China

On Bangladesh’s relations with China and the Belt and Road Initiative, Tariq said, ‘We will protect the interests of the people of Bangladesh. If something is not in the interest of Bangladesh then naturally we will not go along with it. I am confident that mutual interest will be our top priority. If the Belt and Road Initiative benefits Bangladesh and supports the economy, then we will take a decision.

Regarding South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation (SAARC), he said, ‘It was established on the initiative of Bangladesh. We want it to work. We will discuss with our friendly countries and try to revive SAARC.

Our government will fix law and order: Tariq Rehman

Tariq Rahman said, ‘This victory is of Bangladesh, of democracy and of the hopes of the people. I congratulate the people of Bangladesh for overcoming the obstacles in establishing democracy. He further said, ‘The fascist government’s disregard for the Constitution and democratic principles has resulted in failure. Our government will now make law and order in the entire country.

In Bangladesh elections, Tariq Rahman’s party BNP won 209 out of 297 seats, while the fundamentalist Jamaat-e-Islami, considered close to Pakistan, got 68 seats. Meanwhile, Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami President Amir Shafiqur Rahman has announced that his party will accept the results of the 13th national parliamentary election and will work as a responsible opposition party.

Efforts of workers did not go in vain: Shafiqur Rahman

Shafiqur Rehman posted on Facebook on Saturday (14 February 2026) that his party has always been committed to a stable and effective democratic system and is firm on that position. He said that we accept the results of the elections and respect the rule of law. He told the party leaders and workers that even though some people were feeling disappointed, their efforts had not gone in vain as the party had won 77 seats.

Not a shock, but a foundation: Shafiqur Rahman

According to Shafiqur Rahman, now the presence of his party in the Parliament of Bangladesh has increased almost four times, due to which Jamaat-e-Islami has become a strong opposition force. He said, ‘The election result is not a shock, but a foundation. The real test of party leadership lies not only in the election campaign but also in the way it accepts the public’s decision. Shafiqur Rahman said that his movement is not about any one election, but about strengthening democracy, protecting the rights of citizens and building Bangladesh.

Jamaat-e-Islami made allegations of rigging in elections

Radical party Jamaat-e-Islami alleged that the results were rigged in some constituencies. Jamaat Chief Shafiqur Rehman claimed that since Friday (13 February 2026) night, there have been attacks on the houses of leaders and workers of the Jamaat-led 11 party election alliance in many parts of the country. According to the report of Bangladeshi newspaper Prothom Alo, he said, ‘If the election results come normally then usually there is no major objection. Generally everyone accepts it. If there is any major discrimination or irregularities then it naturally raises questions.

After the bumper victory in Bangladesh elections, BNP President Tariq Rahman appealed to the people of the country to maintain unity. Tariq Rehman dedicated the party’s victory to those who sacrificed for democracy. Addressing the people of the country on Saturday (14 February 2026), BNP Chief said, ‘This victory is of Bangladesh. This is the victory of democracy. This victory belongs to those who had hope for democracy and sacrificed for it. From today we are all free and now the real meaning of rights has been restored.

We have to stay united: Tariq Rehman

Tariq Rahman told the people of Bangladesh, ‘With your spontaneous participation, after more than one and a half decade, the Parliament and the government are being re-established in the country through direct voting. We have to remain united so that no evil force can re-establish dictatorship in the country and the nation does not remain under anyone. I congratulate the people of Bangladesh. Overcoming all obstacles, you have established democracy in the country.

‘Injustice cannot be done to anyone’

According to the Dhaka Tribune report, he said, ‘We need everyone’s cooperation to build a secure Bangladesh. This time everyone will have to work responsibly in the reconstruction of the country. Injustice cannot be done to anyone under any pretext. Law and order will have to be maintained at all costs.

New government will be sworn in soon in Bangladesh

Shafikul Alam, press secretary of Muhammad Yunus, chief advisor to the interim government of Bangladesh, has said that the swearing in of the new government will take place very soon. This means that it should be considered certain that Bangladesh will not have to wait more than three days for its new government. Tariq Rahman, who was in self-exile in London for 17 years, has emerged as the new face of Bangladesh in the general elections as BNP returned to power after a gap of 20 years by securing majority.

Tariq Rehman’s political career was full of ups and downs

Tariq Rehman was sentenced to life imprisonment in connection with the grenade attack on Sheikh Hasina’s rally in 2004. 24 people were killed and dozens were injured in this attack. Rahman has always denied these allegations, calling them politically motivated. He was acquitted in all cases during the interim rule of Mohammad Yunus after Hasina was ousted from power. When Khaleda Zia was sent to jail on corruption charges in 2018, Tariq Rehman was named the acting president of the party. After his death, he became the chairman.

General elections have been completed in Bangladesh. Tariq Rahman’s BNP is going to form the government with two-thirds majority. Khaleda Zia’s son Tariq Rahman will be the next Prime Minister of Bangladesh. For the first time, such elections were held in Bangladesh in which Sheikh Hasina’s Awami League was banned from participating. Awami League was not involved in the 2026 Bangladesh elections. Without Awami League, the Bangladesh elections saw a direct contest between BNP and Jamaat-e-Islami.

BNP gets majority in Bangladesh elections

In the absence of Awami League, BNP won more than 200 seats and Jamaat-e-Islami emerged as the largest opposition party with 74 seats. The entry of student movement party NCP was poor, SNP had to be content with only 6 seats. However, now that a new government is being formed in Bangladesh, what will happen to Awami League? This is a question whose answer the whole world wants to know. The question is also whether Awami League will be able to contest elections in Bangladesh in future and will Sheikh Hasina ever again be seen in the same strong role in Bangladesh politics as before? ABP News took the opinion of the common people of Bangladesh regarding this question.

Why are people angry at Sheikh Hasina?

The anger against Sheikh Hasina in Bangladesh has been reduced through votes in this election. One of the major complaints of Sheikh Hasina’s opponents was that they were not able to cast their votes in the last elections. Voters of Bangladesh cast their votes in the elections of 2026. Many citizens believe that Awami League should be allowed to take part in the country’s politics. Some people said that now the elections are over and a new government is going to be formed. After the formation of this government, Awami League should also get an opportunity for active politics.

Will Awami League be able to make a comeback in Bangladesh politics?

Many supporters of Tariq Rahman showed their anger against Sheikh Hasina, but during the same conversation the youth also said that Awami League can do politics in Bangladesh. The youth said, ‘Sheikh Hasina’s son and daughter can be the face of Awami League politics, we have no objection to them. The people of Bangladesh will further decide which party should form the government in the country, but now Awami League can start its work here politically.

Who did the Awami League supporters vote for?

There is one more thing worth noting in the politics of Bangladesh. The people of Bangladesh are addicted to BNP and Awami League. If seen in a way, the influence of both these parties will always remain in Bangladesh, whether sometimes less or sometimes more. BNP has directly benefited due to the electoral ban of Awami League. The supporters of Awami League who till now used to vote for Sheikh Hasina, were forced to go with BNP because the supporters of Awami League do not want to allow the pro-Pakistan Jamaat-e-Islam to come to power in Bangladesh at any cost. The number of Awami League supporters in Bangladesh is also very good, they are just sitting quietly waiting for their time in the new political equation.

Jamaat-e-Islami a challenge to the stability of Bangladesh

After the political rise of Jamaat-e-Islami in Bangladesh elections 2026, political stability in Bangladesh may prove to be a big challenge. The extreme views of Jamaat-e-Islami are not liked by the supporters of both BNP and Awami League. The youth here distanced themselves from the Jamaat-e-Islami and NCP alliance and went with the BNP.

In the changed equation in Bangladesh, the return of Awami League will not be very easy, but it is not impossible at all. Even today Awami League has a big vote bank and a strong cadre. If the electoral ban on Awami League is lifted in Bangladesh in the coming days, then political rivalry between BNP vs Awami League may once again be seen in the country.

The results of general elections held in Bangladesh have come. BNP has dominated and won this election. The government has entrusted the responsibility of running the government under the leadership of Tariq Rehman. So far the results of 258 seats have come. It is believed that every party has ignored women candidates in this election. But in this election the public has made 7 women candidates victorious.

Who are those 7 women candidates who won the election?

Let us know who are those 7 women candidates who have won. Among them, BNP candidate Afroza Khanum, who is contesting from Manikganj-3 on the Paddy Gattar symbol, has won the election by getting 1,67,345 votes. He has defeated Muhammad Saeed Noor of Bangladesh Khilafat Majlis by more than 60 thousand votes.

BNP alliance candidate Israt Sultana Ellen Bhutto got 1,13,199 votes from Jhalakathi-2. He defeated SM Neyamul Karim. Tehsina Rushdir, wife of BNP leader M Ilyas Ali, won from Sylhet-2 by 79,321 votes. He has defeated Muhammad Muntasir Ali of Bangladesh Khilafat Majsil.

Independent candidate Rumin Farhana from Brahmanbaria-2 got 117,495 votes. He has won this election. Apart from this, BNP candidate Farzana Sharmin has won in Natore-1, BNP candidate Shama Obaid Islam has won in Faridpur-2 and BNP candidate Nayaab Yusuf Ahmed has won in Faridpur-3.

There were 84 women candidates in the fray, 4% of the total candidates.

A total of 84 women candidates were in the fray this time. This figure was only 4 percent of the total number of candidates. Of these, 66 contested the elections as party candidates and 19 as independent candidates. Apart from these, a transgender candidate was also in the electoral fray. Out of 84 women candidates, 64 i.e. 75% were graduates or post graduates. Most of them were women aged between 25 to 39 years. There were 32 candidates among them. About 67% of the women candidates were employed.

BNP has emerged as the largest party in the 13th national parliamentary elections held in Bangladesh. Well-known faces of Bangladesh politics have faced defeat in this election. This includes those leaders who were quite prominent in national level politics, TV shows, demonstrations and social media. But when the election results came, they had to face defeat. Let us know who are those political faces who have been completely rejected by the public.

These leaders had to face defeat

Jamaat-e-Islami Secretary General Ghulam Parwar has faced defeat. He contested the election on the election symbol of scales. He got a total of 144,956 votes. He was defeated by BNP candidate Mohammad Ali Asghar Lobby. Mohammad Ali won this election by a slight margin of 2,702.

Sarjis Alam, a popular face among young voters, has faced defeat in this election. He made a lot of headlines this year. He was defeated by International Affairs Secretary Barrister Navshad Zameer. Navshad Jamir got 22,134 votes with the paddy bundle symbol, while Sarjis Alam got 20,199 votes.

Tasneem Zara was a well-known face in social activism and social media. He was defeated by BNP candidate Habibur Rashid by a huge margin.

Senior leader of the Islamic movement in the country, Nayaab-e-Amir Mufti Syed Mohammad Faizul Karim contested elections from two seats. These include Barisal 5 and Barisal 6. He had to face defeat from both the seats. He was defeated by BNP candidate Mujibur Rahman Sarwar from Barisal-5 by a margin of 40 thousand. Whereas in Barisal-6, he was defeated by BNP’s Abul Hussain Khan by a margin of more than 80 thousand.

The most talked about election of the country took place in Dhaka-8. Here NCP’s Nasir Uddin Patwari faced BNP’s Mirza Abbas. Mirza Abbas defeated him by a slight margin of more than 5 thousand votes.

Rangpur-3 Jatiya Party chief GM Kader was defeated by Jamaat-e-Islami candidate Mahbubur Rehman Belal.

Senior Supreme Court lawyer Mohammad Shishir Manir lost his election from Sunamganj-2. He was defeated by a margin of more than 40 thousand votes.

This election proved to be very negative for Bangladesh Party candidate Barrister Fuad, known as Asaduzzaman Bhuiyan. He had to face defeat in Barisal-3 by 21 thousand votes. Zainal Abedin of BNP lost this election.

Mujibur Rahman lost in his own constituency. He was defeated by BNP candidate Professor Zainal Abedin. Mamunul Haq, the face of religious politics and candidate of Bangladesh Khilafat Majlis, was defeated by BNP’s Bobby Hajjaj from Dhaka-13 seat.

Apart from these, Mahmudur Rahman Mannabogra has faced a crushing defeat. He got less than 4 thousand votes. His bail was confiscated. In this election, BNP candidate Mir Shahe Alamat won by more than 1 lakh 45 thousand votes. Abdul Latif Siddiqui contested as an independent candidate from Tangail-4, but he had to face defeat from BNP’s Lutfar Rahman Mateen.

Jamaat candidate Saiful Alam contested the elections from Dhaka-12. He defeated BNP supported alliance candidate Saiful Haq by a huge margin.

All eyes were on the performance of Nahid Islam, one of the prominent faces of the student movement, and his party in the 13th parliamentary elections in Bangladesh. When the election results came, Naheed Islam was successful in winning the election, but his party had a bad situation in the election. Nahid Islam is among those leaders who led the ‘anti-discrimination’ student movement against the Awami League government of former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina in July last year.

Won the election from Dhaka-11 seat

Nahid Islam has won from Dhaka-11 constituency. Nahid got 93,872 votes. His nearest rival was Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) candidate MA Qayyum, who got 91,833 votes. Nahid Islam won by a margin of 2,039 votes. Voting was held in Dhaka-11 seat at 163 polling stations, including postal ballots. There are a total of 4,39,075 voters in this constituency, out of which 1,96,370 voted. A total of 3,517 votes were declared invalid, leaving 1,92,853 valid votes.

Nahid Islam had formed his own party

Nahid Islam had joined the interim government formed in Bangladesh as an information advisor. Later he resigned from the cabinet. Nahid Islam had formed the National Citizen Party (NCP). In the parliamentary elections, National Citizen Party had formed an alliance with Jamaat-e-Islam and contested on 30 seats. However, the performance of the party was nothing special. NCP had boasted of contesting the elections alone without forming an alliance with any party, but as the elections approached, all the equations changed and the party contested the elections in alliance with the Jamaat-e-Islam, on which it boasted of never trusting.

Accused of fraud in elections

NCP spokesperson and party’s Central Election Management Committee Chairman Asif Mahmood Shojib Bhuiyan, while addressing a press conference in Dhaka on February 13 (Friday) morning, alleged rigging and fraud in many seats in Dhaka. NCP spokesperson and chairman of the party’s Central Election Management Committee Asif Mahmood Shojeeb Bhuiyan said, “Psychological pressure and administrative manipulation were being used to change the results, especially in constituencies where top leaders of the Jamaat-led 11-party alliance had contested.”

BNP’s bumper victory

Tariq Rahman-led Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) alliance has won 213+ seats out of 299 seats. It is almost clear that Tariq Rahman will be the next Prime Minister of Bangladesh. Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi also posted on Twitter congratulating Tariq Rehman on his victory and expressed his desire to strengthen relations together and pursue common development goals.

After the voting for the 13th parliamentary elections in Bangladesh, the picture of the results has become clear. Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) chief Tariq Rahman, son of former Bangladesh Prime Minister Khaleda Zia, has got a bumper victory in the elections. It is considered certain that Tariq Rahman will become the next Prime Minister of Bangladesh. At the same time, Jamaat-e-Islami had to face a crushing defeat in the elections. The victory of BNP and defeat of Jamaat is special for India in many ways.

Jamaat’s defeat and BNP’s victory is good news for India. Jamaat-e-Islami is known for its fanaticism and conservative thinking, it is considered a supporter of Pakistan. Jamaat had opposed the independence of Bangladesh from Pakistan. Jamaat’s thinking towards minority Hindus of Bangladesh has not been good. At the same time, in the current political situation of Bangladesh, BNP’s victory is a good news for India. BNP can move forward by improving relations with India. There will be pressure from the people of Bangladesh on Tariq Rahman to give more importance to relations with India.

On the death of Khaleda Zia, the Foreign Minister of India visited Dhaka and met Tariq Rehman. During this time, PM’s letter of condolence was also handed over to Tariq Rehman. Even before this, BNP has been in power in Bangladesh, hence BNP knows the importance of relations with India. The victory of BNP and the defeat of Jamaat is also important from the point of view of security of the border states of India.

PM Modi congratulated Tariq Rehman on his victory

Prime Minister Narendra Modi congratulated BNP chief Tariq Rehman on his election victory by posting on social media. PM Modi wrote in the post, Congratulations to Tariq Rahman for making BNP win in Bangladesh parliamentary elections. This victory shows the trust of the people of Bangladesh on your leadership.
India will continue its support for a democratic, progressive and inclusive Bangladesh. I look forward to working with you to strengthen our multifaceted relations and advance our shared development goals.”

The results of the 13th parliamentary elections in India’s neighboring country Bangladesh have become clear. Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) has won a landslide victory in the elections. BNP got two-thirds majority in the results, while Jamaat-e-Islami and its allies were limited to only 59 seats. Many big changes have been seen in Bangladesh in recent times. The interim government of the country had issued new notes of Bangladeshi currency. Let us know what is the currency of Bangladesh and which one has more value when compared with Indian Rupee.

What is the currency of Bangladesh?

The currency of Bangladesh is called Taka. Central Bank of Bangladesh Bangladesh is the central bank, which has the command of monetary operations and control in the country. Two different institutions issue notes in Bangladesh. Bangladesh Central Bank issues currency of 10 Taka and above. In addition, smaller notes such as 1, 2 and 5 taka notes are issued by the Ministry of Finance, which functions under the Government of Bangladesh. These are called Government Notes.

Mujibur Rahman’s picture was removed

The picture of the country’s founder Sheikh Mujibur Rahman was seen on old notes and coins. However, the interim government of Bangladesh issued new currency of 1000 Taka, 50 Taka and 20 Taka on June 1, 2025, in which the picture of Mujibur Rahman was removed. Bangladesh’s new currency depicts the country’s cultural heritage by depicting natural landscapes and historical sites.

Is there more value in the currency of Bangladesh and India?

The currency code of India’s rupee is INR and the currency code of Bangladesh is BDT. According to the report of Bombay Stock Exchange, on 9 February 2026, the value of Indian Rupee against 1 dollar was 90.4163 INR. At the same time, 122.49 taka of Bangladesh is equal to one dollar. If compared with India, one rupee of India is equal to 1.35 taka of Bangladesh. According to this, 1 lakh Indian rupees will be equal to 1,35,150.18 taka of Bangladesh.
