The year 2026 has been surrounded by controversies for Bangladesh. First being out of T20 World Cup 2026 and now a new controversy has arisen regarding the elections in Bangladesh Cricket Board. Bangladesh government and BCB are at loggerheads and BCB president Aminul Islam is at the center of this dispute.

In fact, in October last year, Aminul Islam was re-elected BCB president. Former cricketer Tamim Iqbal had also raised questions that there were irregularities in the elections. After the matter came to light, the Bangladesh government had started investigating the matter, but the Bangladesh Cricket Board had given a warning to the Bangladesh government through gestures. BCB said that if the government interferes too much then ICC can take action.

BCB making excuses?

Meanwhile, Syed Ashraful Haq, who has been the CEO of Asian Cricket Council, says that Bangladesh Cricket Board is trying to save itself by taking the name of ICC. The truth is that BCB comes under the National Sports Council (NSC). Ashraful Haq has said that if any irregularities are found in the elections or any irregularities are found in the way it works, then the NSC has the full right to dissolve the board.

He said that the International Cricket Council does not interfere in anyone’s internal affairs, it can issue maximum instructions. He also gave the example of Pakistan where the president was changed several times, but the ICC did not interfere. Therefore, if the working method of Bangladesh Cricket Board is correct then ICC will not interfere in this matter also.

Bangladesh Sports Minister Aminul Haq says that any conclusion will be reached only after seeing the investigation report and talking to the ICC. If BCB is found guilty then the government can take strict action, but the investigation report has not come out yet.

Bangladesh Cricket Board Controversy: Bangladesh cricket is going through a strange phase, where Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) and the country’s government are at loggerheads. The Board has warned the government that its interference in cricket matters could have serious consequences. Actually, a case of irregularities had come to light in the BCB elections, to investigate which the Sports Ministry had formed a 5-member committee. This committee was instructed on March 11 that it would have to submit its report within the next 15 working days.

According to a report by ESPN Cricinfo, Bangladesh Cricket Board says that government interference in the democratically elected cricket board is considered against the rules of the International Cricket Council (ICC). The board also made it clear that talks have been held with ICC officials regarding this entire matter. If government interference continues, Bangladesh cricket may have to face serious consequences and may even be banned.

What is the whole controversy?

The allegations of irregularities in the Bangladesh Cricket Board elections were sparked when former cricketer Tamim Iqbal accused Bangladesh Cricket Board President Aminul Islam of interfering in the election process. Tamim had alleged that an attempt was made to extend the nomination date twice, while Aminul had asked the Sports Ministry to change the councilors of some districts. The present BCB President Aminul Islam had denied all these allegations.

Elections were held on October 6 last year, but a few days before that, Tamim Iqbal surprised by withdrawing his candidature for the post of Speaker. A new angle in the election rigging case came when groups other than Dhaka Club officials had made allegations of election rigging.

Voting is going on for 299 seats in the general elections of Bangladesh. Here the name of a leader has been in a lot of controversies, who spewed venom against India. Bangladesh’s National Citizen Party (NCP) leader Hasnat Abdullah had added fuel to the fire in India-Bangladesh relations. Hasnat Abdullah had said that if an attempt is made to destabilize Bangladesh, its impact will go beyond the borders. He alleged that the forces which are trying to create instability in Bangladesh are getting shelter in India.

Abdullah had said in his statement that if India gives protection to such forces, then Bangladesh will also separate the north-eastern states of India, which were called Seven Sisters, and the separatists living there will be given refuge in Bangladesh. The seven states of the North-East of India are Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Manipur, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Nagaland and Tripura. The security situation of these states has historically been sensitive.

Accusations made against India

In his speech, Hasnat Abdullah had claimed that those who are behind weakening the election process in Bangladesh and the attack on candidate Usman Hadi are supported by India. He had also accused the role of Indian agencies in the cases of deaths of Bangladeshi citizens on the border. However, there has been no official response from India yet on these allegations.

changed political situation

Analysts believe that after the change in the internal politics of Bangladesh, the tone of rhetoric regarding India has changed. After the removal of Sheikh Hasina from power and the coming of the new system under the leadership of Mohammad Yunus, a tough stance towards India has been seen in the statements of some leaders. Earlier, a statement of Mohammad Yunus was also in discussion, in which he had described North-East India as land-locked and said that Bangladesh could be an important route for access to the sea. There was a reaction in India on that statement also.

Potential impact on relationships

In the last few years, cooperation between India and Bangladesh has increased in the fields of trade, energy, security and connectivity. In such a situation, such statements can create tension in the relations between the two countries. Sometimes such statements are related to domestic politics, but they can have an impact on regional stability. Overall, this statement regarding Seven Sisters has become a sensitive issue for India-Bangladesh relations. Now it remains to be seen how both the countries handle this situation at the diplomatic level.

Bangladesh is now regretting the decision to boycott the T20 World Cup 2026, which is why Bangladesh’s sports advisor Asif Nazrul, who earlier supported the boycott, had to say that this was not his decision but that of the BCB and the players. He had told the media on Tuesday that the decision of not playing the World Cup in India was that of the players and the Bangladesh Cricket Board. But after this he started getting criticized, because the Bangladesh government had earlier said that on the basis of security concerns, the government has decided not to play in India. But after becoming a victim of criticism, Asif has once again changed his statement.

Asif Nazrul, who on Tuesday said that the players had taken the decision to boycott T20 World Cup 2026, said on Wednesday that he could not explain his point properly. He said, “Once again, I clearly say that the government had taken the decision not to play in the T20 World Cup 2026.”

Nazrul told that what he said in an impromptu conversation with journalists after an event of Bangladesh Cricket Board was misunderstood. According to him, the question asked was whether he regretted not playing, the question was not who took the decision.

Nazrul told that in early January, the Bangladesh government had decided not to send the cricket team to India citing security concerns. He had said this clearly in many previous statements.

Nazrul’s statement caused controversy

It was clear from Nazrul’s statement that the Bangladesh government is telling the BCB and the players the reason for being out of the T20 World Cup, because he said that this decision was of the players and the board. He said this while talking to journalists after a BCB event on February 10. This increased the controversy, but Nazrul then took a U-turn and said that his statement was misunderstood. Accepting it as the government’s decision, he said, “The main credit goes to them for sticking to the decision.”

Voting is going on for the general elections in Bangladesh, where voting is being done on 299 seats. This time BNP and Jamaat-e-Islami are in the fray. However, in the meantime it is important to know how much salary the Prime Minister gets in Bangladesh. According to the report of Law of Bangladesh, the salary of the Prime Minister of Bangladesh has been fixed as per the amendment made in the Prime Minister (Remuneration and Privileges) Act in 2016, which came into effect from July 1, 2015. After this amendment, the salary and allowances of the Prime Minister were increased. The Prime Minister of Bangladesh gets a basic salary of 1,15,000 Taka (Bangladeshi Taka) every month. If the monthly salary is multiplied by 12, then the annual basic salary becomes 13,80,000 Taka (1,15,000 × 12). This is only basic salary and does not include other allowances.

Apart from the salary, the Prime Minister also gets many types of allowances and facilities. These include official residence, housing allowance, daily allowance, insurance and other government facilities. Adding all these, the total monthly income becomes approximately 3,05,000 taka or more. According to some reports, this amount is approximately equal to 2,500 US dollars.

What is the background of salary?

Before the 2016 amendment, the monthly salary of the Prime Minister of Bangladesh was Taka 58,600. After amendment, it was increased to Taka 1,15,000, i.e. almost doubled. This salary increase was not limited to the Prime Minister only. Under the same amendment, the salaries of other high constitutional posts like the President, Speaker of Parliament and High Court judges were also increased. Thus, as per Bangladesh Prime Minister Salary 2026, the basic salary appears relatively limited, but when allowances and official facilities are added the total monthly remuneration becomes quite high.

Facility provided to the Prime Minister of Bangladesh

The Prime Minister of Bangladesh is provided not only salary but also many official facilities. These facilities are provided under the Prime Minister (Remuneration and Privileges) Act and related government provisions.

official residence

A government official residence is earmarked for the Prime Minister. The government bears the entire cost of maintenance, security, decoration and other arrangements of this residence.

transport facilities

An official car is provided to the Prime Minister for official use. Apart from this, a separate car for his family and vehicles for the use of personal staff are also given, the expenses of which are borne by the government treasury. Traveling allowances are also given for official trips within the country and abroad. The facility of annual insurance cover is also available at government expense during air travel.

medical facilities

The Prime Minister and his family get free treatment in any government or recognized hospital in Bangladesh. If there is doctor’s advice, they can also get treatment abroad at government expense.

The Bangladesh government has officially confirmed that the Bangladesh cricket team will not play in the 2026 T20 World Cup to be held in India. Bangladesh team has decided to boycott the T20 World Cup. Bangladesh government says that ICC has rejected its demand to shift the T20 World Cup matches. Besides, the government has also targeted the International Cricket Council (ICC).

Recently, Bangladesh’s sports advisor Asif Nazrul said that Bangladeshi players want to play T20 World Cup, but the team will play its matches only in Sri Lanka.

ICC’s loss is not ours in this

The Bangladesh government issued a statement saying that they are not sure about the status of world cricket, but the popularity of the game is definitely declining. They have imprisoned 20 crore people. Cricket is going to the Olympics, but if a country like Bangladesh does not participate, then ICC is at a loss.

It was also said that the Bangladesh government will be in constant touch with the ICC, because their team wants to play in the World Cup, but will not play in India. ICC was also criticized for taking many shocking decisions in its board meetings.

Statement given on Mustafizur Rahman also

This entire matter came to light after Mustafizur Rahman’s release from the Indian Premier League. Actually, on the instructions of BCCI, Kolkata Knight Riders had released Rahman from their squad. KKR had bought Mustafizur for Rs 9.20 crore in the mini auction. Bangladesh government said that Mustafizur’s issue is not an isolated issue. BCCI was the only one to take decision on this.

The Foreign Ministry of Bangladesh has expressed displeasure over the protests and sloganeering outside the residence of the Bangladesh High Commission in New Delhi on Saturday (December 20, 2025). The Bangladeshi Foreign Ministry issued a statement saying that on December 20, 2025, some people reached the residence of the Bangladesh High Commission and vandalized the barricades. This incident is inappropriate and very regrettable.

Bangladesh Foreign Ministry issued a statement

The Foreign Ministry of Bangladesh has issued an official statement regarding this matter on Sunday (December 21, 2025). The statement said, “The inappropriate incident that took place at the residence of the Bangladesh High Commission in New Delhi on Saturday (December 20, 2025) is extremely regrettable and cannot be accepted at all as a form of misleading propaganda.”

“The miscreants were allowed to conduct their activities just outside the perimeter of the High Commission, causing panic among the staff present inside the premises. No advance information was given to the High Commission about this organized event. However, we note the commitment of the Government of India to ensure the security of all diplomatic establishments of Bangladesh in India,” the statement said.

Bangladesh government arrested the suspects – Bangladeshi Foreign Ministry

Bangladesh’s Foreign Ministry said, “We completely reject the attempt by Indian authorities to portray an isolated attack on a Bangladeshi citizen, who incidentally belongs to the Hindu community, as attacks on minorities.”

The statement said, “The Government of Bangladesh has taken prompt action and arrested the suspects involved in this incident. The inter-community situation in Bangladesh is better than in many other parts of South Asia. Bangladesh believes that the governments of all countries in the region (South Asia) have the responsibility to ensure the safety of minorities in their respective countries.”

On which matter did Bangladeshi Foreign Ministry issue a statement?

In fact, in Mymensingh district of Bangladesh, Dipu Chandra Das, a Hindu minority youth, was brutally murdered after mob lynching. There was a lot of protest after the video of this incident went viral on social media. After this, on Saturday (December 20), 20 to 25 youth gathered outside the Bangladesh High Commission in Delhi regarding the same matter and protested and raised slogans.

The interim government led by Mohammad Yunus in Bangladesh has once again sent a formal letter to India asking that former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina be handed over to Dhaka. Bangladesh High Commission based in Delhi has sent this diplomatic note to the Ministry of External Affairs of India.

This request has come at a time when on 17 November 2025, a special court in Dhaka has sentenced Sheikh Hasina to death after finding her guilty of serious crimes against humanity. This is the first official letter after the decision, in which Bangladesh has demanded India to send him back.

Left Dhaka and reached India
Last year in August 2024, Hasina’s government fell due to large-scale violence, political turmoil and protests in Bangladesh. During that time, she left Dhaka and reached India and has been living in India since then. Bangladesh is now arguing that not sending them back even after so long is an obstruction in the judicial process. Meanwhile, she has been living in India for about 15 months.

Bangladesh government claims
Bangladesh government is saying in its letter that the extradition treaty is in force between India and Bangladesh. On this basis, India should be handed over to Sheikh Hasina. Dhaka says that giving shelter in any other country to people found guilty of serious charges is against the justice system. Even before this, Bangladesh had sent a letter to India on the same issue, but no official response was received from India.

India’s reaction is still not clear
The Government of India has not made any comment this time also. Last year, even when Hasina had come to India, India had not given any formal response to Dhaka’s request. Experts believe that this matter is not only legal, but also political and strategic, because it can have a wide-ranging impact on India-Bangladesh relations.

Dhaka court’s decision
In its November 17 verdict, the special court in Dhaka had convicted Sheikh Hasina and her former home minister Asaduzzaman Khan in several serious cases. The court said that both were found to have a direct role in the illegal arrest of opposition leaders, their torture and crimes against humanity. Hasina and her party have been calling these allegations completely politically motivated.

On what basis will India take the final decision?
Legal experts believe that India will take any decision on this issue only when it is confident that his trial has been conducted in a fair manner in Bangladesh. If there are any suspicions like political retaliation or human rights violation in the case, India will not give consent to extradition, hence this matter is currently in a sensitive situation on both diplomatic and legal fronts.

Political tension has increased a lot in Bangladesh at present. The decision of the International Criminal Tribunal (ICT) on the case of alleged crimes related to the ousted former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is going to come on Monday (November 17). A day before the decision, Hasina’s party Awami League has announced a ‘complete bandh’ across the country. This bandh has been done at a time when the Yunus government has already banned all the activities of the Awami League. For this reason, high alert continues in the entire country.

Meanwhile, an audio message of Sheikh Hasina has surfaced, in which she has appealed to her supporters to intensify their agitation on the streets. Shortly after the message was received, reports of country-made bomb blasts were received in Dhaka. On Sunday night, two blasts took place outside the house of interim government advisor Syeda Rizwana Hasan, while another blast took place in Karwan Bazaar area. It is a matter of relief that there is no news of anyone being injured.

Orders to open fire on those inciting violence

To stop the uproar, Dhaka Police Commissioner Sheikh Mohammad Sajjad Ali has given clear instructions to the officers that if anyone attacks the police or spreads violence, action can be taken against him by opening fire. Before the decision, security has been greatly increased in Dhaka.

What are the allegations against Sheikh Hasina?

Today the ICT is going to pronounce the verdict of the case in which Sheikh Hasina, former Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal and former Inspector General of Police Chaudhry Abdullah Al-Mamun face serious allegations. It is alleged that during the student movement in July-August 2024, he took such steps which increased violence and committed crimes against humanity. The hearing of this case ended on October 23 and the punishment will be announced today.

Peaceful atmosphere in many cities

After the announcement of the bandh on Sunday, an atmosphere of peace was seen in many cities of Bangladesh. Roads remained almost empty, markets opened late and people remained in their homes. Since the government has banned the party’s activities, Awami League leaders are now issuing messages through social media from secret places.

Sheikh Hasina termed the allegations against her wrong

Sheikh Hasina has denied all the allegations against her. But amidst increasing tension, Bangladesh is going through a very important phase.
