Relief news for Tariq Rehman

This opinion poll is no less than a big good news for BNP acting leader Tariq Rehman. The party is now preparing to formally make him the national president soon. BNP General Secretary Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, while talking to the media in Sylhet, has indicated that this decision can be taken in a day or two.

Election campaign can start from Sylhet

According to party sources, Tariq Rehman may start his election campaign from Sylhet. This is the same area from where late leader Khaleda Zia used to start her election campaigns. BNP is considering this step as very important emotionally and politically and is linking it to the heritage of the party.

Party formed from student movement did not get support

Another important thing has emerged in the results of the survey. The National Citizens Party (NCP), which emerged from the student movement against the Sheikh Hasina government in August last year, has received only 2.6 percent support. This makes it clear that the strength seen on the streets does not necessarily translate into electoral support.

Big dent in Awami League’s vote bank

The most surprising aspect of the opinion poll is that about 60 percent of the old supporters of Awami League now want to vote for BNP, while more than 20 percent of the voters seem to be leaning towards Jamaat-e-Islami.

Speaker of National Assembly will go to Dhaka- Ishaq Dar

Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar shared another X post at around 7.30 pm on Tuesday (December 30). In this post, the Foreign Minister said that Pakistan’s National Assembly Speaker Sardar Ayaz Sadiq will visit Bangladesh’s capital Dhaka tomorrow, where he will represent Pakistan at the funeral of former Prime Minister of Bangladesh, late Begum Khaleda Zia.

Khaleda Zia died in hospital

He breathed his last at Evercare Hospital in Dhaka, where he was undergoing treatment for more than a month. The party’s statement said that he died immediately after Fajr prayers. Rizvi has alleged that the person being prosecuted under the laws of Bangladesh is issuing instructions independently from India and those instructions have no legal basis. He said that Sheikh Hasina is asking people in Bangladesh to burn and destroy properties and such orders are clearly illegal. If India calls itself a democratic country then how can it allow this to happen?

The Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) on Friday (August 8, 2025) made a serious accusation of the radical Islamic party Jamaat-e-Islami of trying to eradicate the memories of the country’s 1971 liberation struggle. He said in a sharp tone, “In any country of the world, non-elected people do not change the constitution, who made a constitution with their blood in 1972, how can they hear about changing it today? This party says that Bangladesh was a wandering country and he made a mistake in 1971.” Although he did not name the party, it was clearly pointed to Jamaat-e-Islami.

‘Jamaat should apologize for his role in 1971’
Earlier this year, Hafizuddin expressed disappointment over the attitude of the Jamaat. He had said that Jamaat tried to justify him instead of publicly apologizing for his role in 1971. During the 1971 liberation struggle, Jamaat supported Pakistan and many of its leaders were accused of being involved in war crimes.

After coming to power last year, the interim government led by Mohammad Yunus lifted the ban on Jamaat and its student unit Islamic student Shibir through a gazette. Also, in June, the Supreme Court of Bangladesh restored the registration of Jamaat, which gave it a way to participate in the upcoming general elections.
