Elections are going to be held in Bangladesh on 12 February 2026, but before that there has been no reduction in violence against Hindus. 48 hours before the general elections in Bangladesh, another Hindu businessman was murdered in Trishal Upazila of Mymensingh district. The deceased has been identified as Sushen Chandra Sarkar, 62, a student of M.S. in Trishal. The brothers used to run a business named Bhai Enterprises. The family of the deceased alleged that the miscreants also looted several lakh Bangladeshi Taka.

Hindu businessman killed by closing the shutter of his shop

Bangladeshi media outlet ITV quoted the victim’s family and police as saying, ‘The miscreants hacked Sarkar to death with a sharp weapon at the Bogar Bazaar intersection in the upazila, closed the shutter of the shop and left him inside. Later the family members saw him in a pool of blood and took him to Mymensingh Medical College Hospital, where the doctor declared him dead.

Sujan Sarkar, son of the deceased, said, ‘No one had any enmity with us. After brutally killing my father, the miscreants looted several lakhs of rupees from the shop. Our rice business was running for a long time. We demand strict punishment for these murderers.

Hindu businessman found soaked in blood: Police

Police said, ‘The miscreants attacked him (Sushen Chandra Sarkar) with a sharp weapon and killed him at around 11 pm and then closed the shutter of the shop. During the search, the family members opened the shutter and found him soaked in blood. Later, after receiving information, the police inspected the spot. Legal action is being taken in this regard.

Elections are going to be held in Bangladesh on 12 February 2026, but before that there has been no reduction in violence against Hindus. Another Hindu businessman was murdered 48 hours before the general elections in Bangladesh. With the interim government of Muhammad Yunus coming to power in Bangladesh, violence against minorities including Hindus has increased, which has angered people around the world and many human rights organizations.

Large-scale demonstration near Jamuna, the official residence of Bangladesh’s Chief Advisor Mohammad Yunus, demanding immediate implementation of the Ninth National Pay Scale – barricades were erected, security forces used water cannon and sound grenades to remove the protesters. The protesters raised slogans in support of their demands during the demonstration.

Why are government employees protesting against Yunus?

A massive demonstration is taking place near Jamuna, the official residence of Mohammad Yunus, the chief advisor to the interim government of Bangladesh, demanding immediate implementation of the ninth national pay scale. To remove the protesters, security forces set up barricades and used water cannon and sound grenades. The protesters raised slogans in support of their demands.

15 people injured in clash with police

The protesters broke the police barricade and moved towards the residence of Mohammad Yunus at around 11:30 am on Friday and started protesting. After this the police used lathicharge and tear gas. According to the report of Somoy News, at least 15 people have been injured during the clash with security personnel.

According to Dhaka Tribune, Police Commissioner Masood Alam said, ‘We are alert so that the law and order situation does not deteriorate. We are talking to the protesters so that they go somewhere else and protest. All the protesters gathered near Shaheed Minar in Dhaka and then started moving towards the residence of Mohammad Yunus, raising slogans against him. Tear gas shells were also fired to disperse the crowd.

Yunus is dividing Bangladesh before elections

General elections are going to be held in Bangladesh on 12 February. The protesters fear that after the new government assumes power, the process of proposed salary increase for government employees may be delayed. Their demand is that the current interim government led by Chief Advisor Muhammad Yunus should announce the new pay scale, as the Pay Commission has already released its full report and this pay scale can be implemented through gadget notification.

The Free Trade Agreement between India and the European Union, which is being called the Mother of All Deals from both sides, has not only made US President Donald Trump sweat, but India’s neighboring country Bangladesh is also surprised by this deal. And the reason for this is that with the implementation of this deal, India’s textile business will reach the heights where Bangladesh once dreamed of reaching. But this deal has not only broken that dream of Bangladesh but this deal has also written the story of destruction of Bangladesh, which Mohammad Yusuf could never even imagine.

The clothing market in the European Union is worth about $263 billion. The biggest stake in this is from China, which has 28 to 30 percent share in this market. Bangladesh is at second place, which has captured 21 to 22 percent of this entire market. The biggest reason for this is that Bangladesh has duty free access in the European Union, due to which its business is big. At third place is Turkey, which occupies about 10 to 12 percent of this entire market. Geographically, Turkey is close to Europe, so Turkey’s big brand clothes are consumed in the European Union. Vietnam also sells good quality clothes to the European Union. And that too absolutely duty free. So the people of European Union happily buy those clothes cheaply.

When it comes to India, till now India has been able to control only 5 to 6 percent of the market. If we talk in figures, then in Europe’s textile market which is worth 263 billion dollars, India is able to sell only about 8 billion dollars worth of clothes. The biggest reason for this was that the tax on the clothes sent from India to Europe was 9 percent to 12 percent. Still feeling it. But when this free trade agreement is implemented, the tax on Indian clothes will become zero. And then India will also join the list of exports like Bangladesh and Vietnam, whose clothes do not attract tax.

In the benefits enumerated by the Government of India regarding this trade deal, it has been clearly stated regarding the textiles industry that India sells clothes worth about 36.7 billion dollars i.e. about Rs 3.19 lakh crore in the whole world. Till now, India was able to sell clothes worth only 7.2 billion dollars i.e. about Rs. 62 thousand crores to the European Union, but after the trade deal, not only will India’s exports increase, but to meet this demand, more people will be needed in the textile business and this will also create new jobs and the dependence on the American market will also reduce, because till now it was America, which used to buy the most clothes from India. But now in the coming days, the European Union can replace America, which has troubled everyone because of its tariffs.

And as far as Bangladesh is concerned, its destruction is certain. Because till now Bangladesh is the second country after China, which produces clothes on a large scale and sells it to the world. It has got duty free access in the European Union, so that is its biggest market. Although Bangladesh has to depend on China for raw materials, India also supplies it with raw materials and makes similar clothes like t-shirts, lowers, jeans and basic garments. But now when India is also getting duty free access in the European Union, then this market of Bangladesh is sure to be affected, because one, India has diversity in textile manufacturing, it makes everything from sarees to designer clothes, second, India has no shortage of raw materials and especially cotton and the biggest thing is that there is political stability. In such a situation, the biggest challenge for Bangladesh, which is sometimes facing civil war-like situations and sometimes political instability, is to save its textile business, because after the trade deal, India is completely ready to take that place.

After this trade deal, India aims to sell double the amount of clothes to the European Union in the next five years. That means the business which is currently worth 7 billion dollars should become 15 billion dollars. When this happens, jobs will also come in India and the government believes that because of this, about 70 lakh people will get direct and indirect employment in the next few years. As of now, about five to five and a half crore people are involved in the textile business and the government aims to reach 10 crore people by 2030. It is expected that this trade deal will help a lot in achieving this goal.

Former Prime Minister of Bangladesh Sheikh Hasina targeted the interim government led by Mohammad Yunus before the assembly elections to be held in the country. To restore democracy and constitution in Bangladesh, he called for the overthrow of the puppet government of Mohammad Yunus. In an audio message played at the Foreign Correspondents’ Club of South Asia in New Delhi, Sheikh Hasina accused Yunus of pushing Bangladesh into an era of terror, anarchy and democratic exile.

Puppet government must be overthrown: Sheikh Hasina

Taking aim at Mohammad Yunus, Sheikh Hasina said, ‘This foreign-friendly puppet government will have to be uprooted at all costs. The brave sons and daughters of Bangladesh must protect and restore the Constitution written with the blood of martyrs. We must regain our independence and protect our sovereignty. We have to revive our democracy. During this time he also expressed his views on the political turmoil and current situation in Bangladesh.

A conspiracy was hatched to remove me: Sheikh Hasina

He said, ‘Bangladesh today stands on the brink of deep darkness. A country which is badly injured and bleeding. My country is passing through one of the most dangerous chapters in its history. The entire country has become a big prison and a valley of death. A conspiracy was forcefully hatched to remove me from power and since that day the country has plunged into bloody anarchy. The Bangladesh we are seeing today is a democracy in exile.

Screams of people can be heard in Bangladesh: Sheikh Hasina

Taking aim at the interim chief advisor, he said, ‘Everywhere in Bangladesh, screams of people struggling to survive amid the devastation are being heard. The killer fascist Yunus is motivated by loot of money and lust for power. He is drenching the country in blood. This has tainted the soul of our motherland. On August 5, 2024, as part of a well-planned conspiracy, the enemy of the country, the bloody fascist Yunus and his anti-national extremist associates forcibly ousted me from power.

Sheikh Hasina’s five demands

Sheikh Hasina said that her Awami League is putting forward five-point demands aimed at national reconciliation and democratic revival. He said, we urge Mohammad Yunus to stop ignoring his people and take necessary steps to unite our country.

1. Restore democracy by removing the illegal Yunus administration.
2. End the violence taking place daily on our streets.
3. Guarantee the protection of religious minorities, women and the most vulnerable sections of our society.
4. End politically motivated legal tactics used to intimidate and jail journalists and members of Bangladesh Awami League and opposition political parties.
5. Invite the United Nations to conduct a new and truly impartial investigation into the events of the past year.

Mohammad Yunus, Chief Advisor to the Interim Government of Bangladesh, on Monday (January 19, 2026) reviewed the police records registered in cases related to incidents affecting minority communities and the broader law and order situation in the country. This review has been done on the basis of official police records recorded during the last one year (from January to December, 2025) in Bangladesh.

Regarding this, Yunus said that from January to December, 2025, 645 incidents involving members of minority communities have been recorded in the official police records. He said that this report has been prepared on the basis of verified FIR, general diary, charge sheet and investigation updates from across the country.

Bangladesh committed to tackling crime: Yunus

Mohammad Yunus said that Bangladesh is committed to tackling crime with transparency, accuracy and complete determination. Although each incident is a matter of concern, these figures present a clear and evidence-based picture. He said that most of the cases were not communal but of criminal nature, which underlines the complexity of the law and order challenges.

He said, ‘According to the report, communal elements were found in 71 incidents, while 574 cases were judged to be non-communal in nature. The communal incidents mainly involved vandalism or attempts to desecrate religious places and statues. Along with this, some other crimes were also registered. He said hundreds of cases were formally registered, arrests were made in many incidents and investigation was ongoing in other cases.

On an average 3000-3500 people lose their lives every year: Yunus

Yunus said, ‘At the national level, Bangladesh still faces serious law and order challenges. Every year, on an average, around 3,000 to 3,500 people lose their lives in violent crimes across the country. This number is not something to be proud of. It is also important to understand these figures in context. Bangladesh is a country of Muslims, Hindus, Buddhists, Christians and people of other religions, all of whom are citizens with equal rights. Ensuring security and justice for every community is not only a constitutional obligation, but also a moral obligation.

He said, ‘This report has been presented in the spirit of transparency and accountability. It does not deny the challenges, nor claim completeness, but rather seeks to provide a factual, evidence-based picture of crime trends affecting minority communities in a broader national context.’

The issue of daily attacks and killings on Hindus in Bangladesh has been raised in the British Parliament. A British MP raised this issue and appealed to the government to talk to the Mohammad Yunus government of Bangladesh so that violence against Hindus can be stopped and their safety is ensured.

Britain’s opposition MP and senior Conservative Party leader Bob Blackman has appealed to the government to put pressure on Bangladesh’s Chief Advisor Mohammad Yunus to ensure the safety of minorities and fair elections.

Bob Blackman said that elections are to be held in Bangladesh on February 12 and these elections are being held at a time when former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s party Awami League has been banned, due to which democratic concerns remain. He also emphasized that Islamic extremists have become active again under the Yunus government.

Today, I raised my concerns on Bangladesh.

With elections looming, the Awami League is still banned.

I am also horrified to see that Hindu’s are murdered and their temples burnt.

I called on the Govt to act to protect minorities and ensure free and fair elections. pic.twitter.com/DTTCCgcN2S

Bob Blackman said in a post on social media platform X on Thursday (January 15, 2026), ‘I raised my concerns about Bangladesh in Parliament. Elections are near, still there are restrictions on Awami League. I am also shocked to see that Hindus are being killed, temples are being burnt. Similar incidents are happening with other minority communities. I call upon the government to ensure the safety of minorities, their freedom and fair elections.

He said that Awami League is the biggest political party in the country, yet it has been banned from elections, even though it has got 30 percent votes in opinion polls. On the other hand, Islamic extremists are demanding a referendum, which will change the Constitution of Bangladesh forever.
Bob Blackman has demanded that the Foreign Secretary issue a statement explaining what steps the country’s Labor government is taking to ensure the safety of Bangladeshi minorities, their freedom and fair elections.

Another Hindu youth was murdered in Sunamganj district on Thursday (January 8, 2026) amid increasing violence against minorities in Bangladesh. The deceased has been identified as Joy Mahapatro. The victim’s family has alleged that a local man first brutally assaulted her and then forced her to consume poison.

19-year-old Joy Mahapatro was admitted to the ICU of Sylhet MAG Osmani Medical College Hospital in a critical condition, where he died during treatment.

Continuous killings of Hindus in Bangladesh

This incident has come to light just a few days after a Hindu man was attacked and killed with sharp weapons in Narsindi district of Bangladesh. 40-year-old Moni Chakraborty was attacked on Tuesday (January 6, 2026) in Charsindhur Bazaar area of Palash upazila, in which he died.

Similarly, just hours before the murder of Moni Chakraborty, a Hindu businessman and executive editor of a newspaper was shot dead in the head by unknown assailants in Jessore district of Bangladesh. At the same time, Pratap, son of a school teacher from Keshabpur upazila, who was running an ice factory in Kopaliya market for the last two years, was called by some people outside his factory on Monday (January 5, 2026) evening. After this they took him to an alley and shot him.

The process of death of Hindus started with the murder of Dipu Chandra Das.

The series of killings of minority Hindus in Bangladesh started last month on December 18, 2025, when Hindu youth Dipu Chandra Das was beaten to death by a fundamentalist Islamic mob on charges of alleged blasphemy in Mymensingh district of the country and later his body was hanged in a tree and set on fire.

Apart from this, Khokan Chandra Das, a 50-year-old Hindu businessman in Bangladesh was also brutally attacked and then burnt alive. After which he died in the hospital three days later.

For the last few months, Hindus have been facing atrocities under the rule of the interim government led by Mohammad Yunus in Bangladesh. India on Friday (January 9, 2026) asked Bangladesh to strictly control the communal incidents happening there. India has issued this statement after the incidents of killing of many Hindus and brutality against women in Bangladesh in the last few weeks.

Bangladesh should deal strictly with communal incidents: MEA

Foreign Ministry spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said, ‘We are witnessing a worrying trend of repeated attacks by extremists on minorities as well as their homes and businesses. It is necessary to deal with such communal incidents immediately and strictly. We have seen a worrying trend of linking such incidents to personal enmity, political differences or external reasons. He said, ‘Such neglect emboldens criminals and deepens the feeling of fear and insecurity among minorities.’

Communal violence increases before elections in Bangladesh

As the date of general elections approaches in Bangladesh, incidents of communal violence are increasing. After last year’s coup, the interim government of Mohammad Yunus has failed to establish a normal environment. Former Bangladesh Prime Minister and Awami League President Sheikh Hasina has said that the foundation of India-Bangladesh relations is so strong that it will withstand even the current difficult times.

Tension increased in India-Bangladesh relations

Tension in India-Bangladesh relations has increased following incidents of increasing attacks on Hindu minorities and targeting of Indian diplomatic missions in Bangladesh during the interim government led by Mohammad Yunus. Elections are proposed in the country on February 12, but the security situation is continuously worsening and conflict between political parties is also increasing. India also rejected the alleged ‘anti-India false narrative’ being spread in Bangladesh and said that it is the responsibility of the Yunus government to maintain law and order and ensure security.

Bangladesh Police has arrested Yasin Arafat, the main accused who instigated the fundamentalist mob which brutally murdered Hindu minority citizen Dipu Chandra Das on charges of blasphemy in Mymensingh district of Bangladesh. According to officials, former teacher Yasin Arafat played an important role in the planning and execution of this terrible attack. After which Bangladesh is facing global criticism for this incident amid continuous atrocities on minorities in the country.

In fact, last month, on 18 December 2025, 27-year-old Hindu minority Dipu Chandra Das, working in a textile factory in Mymensingh district of Bangladesh, was forcibly fired from his job by the factory supervisor and handed over to the fundamentalist mob. After which the radical fundamentalist mob beats Dipu Chandra Das badly and kills him. Then she hangs his dead body from a tree and sets it on fire. At the same time, one of his colleagues is also allegedly involved in killing Deepu.

Main accused Arafat was absconding after Deepu’s murder

Bangladesh Police said that after the murder of Dipu Chandra Das, the main accused Yasin Arafat had fled from the area and was hiding, who was arrested by the police on Thursday (January 8, 2026).

According to officials, it was Yasin who hatched the entire conspiracy behind this horrific attack and instigated the mob to target Hindu minority youth Dipu Chandra Das. Thanks to leadership in a local community, he reportedly quickly gathered a large group, which escalated into a deadly attack.

Yasin himself had dragged Deepu to the intersection – Police

Bangladeshi police said that Arafat not only incited the mob to carry out the attack, but he himself dragged Dipu to an intersection, where he was hanged from a tree and then set on fire.

The situation in Bangladesh is worrying, where Hindus are being continuously tortured and attacked. Former Indian cricketer Shikhar Dhawan has expressed concern over this situation. Recently there was news of gang rape of a Hindu woman, after which she was tied to a tree and then her hair was cut. Shikhar Dhawan has expressed grief over this incident through social media.

Shikhar Dhawan’s heart broke

Shikhar Dhawan wrote on social media, “Heartbroken to read about the brutal incident with a Hindu widow in Bangladesh. Such a violent incident anywhere and with anyone is unacceptable. My prayer is that the victim gets support and justice.”

Many brutal incidents of attacks on Hindus have come to light in Bangladesh. Last Tuesday, a Hindu man jumped into the canal to escape the crowd, after which he died. On Monday, a businessman and a newspaper editor were shot dead, whose name was said to be Rana Pratap Bairagi.

The incident on which Shikhar Dhawan expressed grief happened with a Hindu widow. Two men raped the woman, then tied her to a tree and cut her hair. Its shocking pictures were widely shared on social media.

After that the Bangladesh Cricket Board had refused to send its team to India for the T20 World Cup 2026.
