The family of the deceased alleged that the miscreants also looted several lakh Bangladeshi Taka.

Hindu businessman killed by closing the shutter of his shop

Bangladeshi media outlet ITV quoted the victim’s family and police as saying, ‘The miscreants hacked Sarkar to death with a sharp weapon at the Bogar Bazaar intersection in the upazila, closed the shutter of the shop and left him inside. Later the family members saw him in a pool of blood and took him to Mymensingh Medical College Hospital, where the doctor declared him dead.

Sujan Sarkar, son of the deceased, said, ‘No one had any enmity with us. After brutally killing my father, the miscreants looted several lakhs of rupees from the shop. Our rice business was running for a long time. We demand strict punishment for these murderers.

Hindu businessman found soaked in blood: Police

Police said, ‘The miscreants attacked him (Sushen Chandra Sarkar) with a sharp weapon and killed him at around 11 pm and then closed the shutter of the shop. During the search, the family members opened the shutter and found him soaked in blood. Later, after receiving information, the police inspected the spot. Legal action is being taken in this regard.

According to Dhaka Tribune, Police Commissioner Masood Alam said, ‘We are alert so that the law and order situation does not deteriorate. We are talking to the protesters so that they go somewhere else and protest. All the protesters gathered near Shaheed Minar in Dhaka and then started moving towards the residence of Mohammad Yunus, raising slogans against him. Tear gas shells were also fired to disperse the crowd.

Yunus is dividing Bangladesh before elections

General elections are going to be held in Bangladesh on 12 February. The protesters fear that after the new government assumes power, the process of proposed salary increase for government employees may be delayed. Their demand is that the current interim government led by Chief Advisor Muhammad Yunus should announce the new pay scale, as the Pay Commission has already released its full report and this pay scale can be implemented through gadget notification.

The clothing market in the European Union is worth about $263 billion. The biggest stake in this is from China, which has 28 to 30 percent share in this market. Bangladesh is at second place, which has captured 21 to 22 percent of this entire market. The biggest reason for this is that Bangladesh has duty free access in the European Union, due to which its business is big. At third place is Turkey, which occupies about 10 to 12 percent of this entire market. Geographically, Turkey is close to Europe, so Turkey’s big brand clothes are consumed in the European Union. Vietnam also sells good quality clothes to the European Union. And that too absolutely duty free. So the people of European Union happily buy those clothes cheaply.

When it comes to India, till now India has been able to control only 5 to 6 percent of the market. If we talk in figures, then in Europe’s textile market which is worth 263 billion dollars, India is able to sell only about 8 billion dollars worth of clothes. The biggest reason for this was that the tax on the clothes sent from India to Europe was 9 percent to 12 percent. Still feeling it. But when this free trade agreement is implemented, the tax on Indian clothes will become zero. And then India will also join the list of exports like Bangladesh and Vietnam, whose clothes do not attract tax.

In the benefits enumerated by the Government of India regarding this trade deal, it has been clearly stated regarding the textiles industry that India sells clothes worth about 36.7 billion dollars i.e. about Rs 3.19 lakh crore in the whole world. Till now, India was able to sell clothes worth only 7.2 billion dollars i.e. about Rs. 62 thousand crores to the European Union, but after the trade deal, not only will India’s exports increase, but to meet this demand, more people will be needed in the textile business and this will also create new jobs and the dependence on the American market will also reduce, because till now it was America, which used to buy the most clothes from India. But now in the coming days, the European Union can replace America, which has troubled everyone because of its tariffs.

And as far as Bangladesh is concerned, its destruction is certain. Because till now Bangladesh is the second country after China, which produces clothes on a large scale and sells it to the world. It has got duty free access in the European Union, so that is its biggest market. Although Bangladesh has to depend on China for raw materials, India also supplies it with raw materials and makes similar clothes like t-shirts, lowers, jeans and basic garments. But now when India is also getting duty free access in the European Union, then this market of Bangladesh is sure to be affected, because one, India has diversity in textile manufacturing, it makes everything from sarees to designer clothes, second, India has no shortage of raw materials and especially cotton and the biggest thing is that there is political stability. In such a situation, the biggest challenge for Bangladesh, which is sometimes facing civil war-like situations and sometimes political instability, is to save its textile business, because after the trade deal, India is completely ready to take that place.

After this trade deal, India aims to sell double the amount of clothes to the European Union in the next five years. That means the business which is currently worth 7 billion dollars should become 15 billion dollars. When this happens, jobs will also come in India and the government believes that because of this, about 70 lakh people will get direct and indirect employment in the next few years. As of now, about five to five and a half crore people are involved in the textile business and the government aims to reach 10 crore people by 2030. It is expected that this trade deal will help a lot in achieving this goal.

Former Prime Minister of Bangladesh Sheikh Hasina targeted the interim government led by Mohammad Yunus before the assembly elections to be held in the country. 4. End politically motivated legal tactics used to intimidate and jail journalists and members of Bangladesh Awami League and opposition political parties.
5. Invite the United Nations to conduct a new and truly impartial investigation into the events of the past year.

Mohammad Yunus, Chief Advisor to the Interim Government of Bangladesh, on Monday (January 19, 2026) reviewed the police records registered in cases related to incidents affecting minority communities and the broader law and order situation in the country. This review has been done on the basis of official police records recorded during the last one year (from January to December, 2025) in Bangladesh.

Regarding this, Yunus said that from January to December, 2025, 645 incidents involving members of minority communities have been recorded in the official police records. He said that this report has been prepared on the basis of verified FIR, general diary, charge sheet and investigation updates from across the country.

Bangladesh committed to tackling crime: Yunus

Mohammad Yunus said that Bangladesh is committed to tackling crime with transparency, accuracy and complete determination. Although each incident is a matter of concern, these figures present a clear and evidence-based picture. He said that most of the cases were not communal but of criminal nature, which underlines the complexity of the law and order challenges.

He said, ‘According to the report, communal elements were found in 71 incidents, while 574 cases were judged to be non-communal in nature. The communal incidents mainly involved vandalism or attempts to desecrate religious places and statues. Along with this, some other crimes were also registered. He said hundreds of cases were formally registered, arrests were made in many incidents and investigation was ongoing in other cases.

On an average 3000-3500 people lose their lives every year: Yunus

Yunus said, ‘At the national level, Bangladesh still faces serious law and order challenges. Every year, on an average, around 3,000 to 3,500 people lose their lives in violent crimes across the country. This number is not something to be proud of. It is also important to understand these figures in context. Bangladesh is a country of Muslims, Hindus, Buddhists, Christians and people of other religions, all of whom are citizens with equal rights. Ensuring security and justice for every community is not only a constitutional obligation, but also a moral obligation.

He said, ‘This report has been presented in the spirit of transparency and accountability. It does not deny the challenges, nor claim completeness, but rather seeks to provide a factual, evidence-based picture of crime trends affecting minority communities in a broader national context.’

The issue of daily attacks and killings on Hindus in Bangladesh has been raised in the British Parliament. Another Hindu youth was murdered in Sunamganj district on Thursday (January 8, 2026) amid increasing violence against minorities in Bangladesh. The deceased has been identified as Joy Mahapatro. The victim’s family has alleged that a local man first brutally assaulted her and then forced her to consume poison.

19-year-old Joy Mahapatro was admitted to the ICU of Sylhet MAG Osmani Medical College Hospital in a critical condition, where he died during treatment.

Continuous killings of Hindus in Bangladesh

This incident has come to light just a few days after a Hindu man was attacked and killed with sharp weapons in Narsindi district of Bangladesh. 40-year-old Moni Chakraborty was attacked on Tuesday (January 6, 2026) in Charsindhur Bazaar area of ​​Palash upazila, in which he died.

Similarly, just hours before the murder of Moni Chakraborty, a Hindu businessman and executive editor of a newspaper was shot dead in the head by unknown assailants in Jessore district of Bangladesh. At the same time, Pratap, son of a school teacher from Keshabpur upazila, who was running an ice factory in Kopaliya market for the last two years, was called by some people outside his factory on Monday (January 5, 2026) evening. After this they took him to an alley and shot him.

The process of death of Hindus started with the murder of Dipu Chandra Das.

The series of killings of minority Hindus in Bangladesh started last month on December 18, 2025, when Hindu youth Dipu Chandra Das was beaten to death by a fundamentalist Islamic mob on charges of alleged blasphemy in Mymensingh district of the country and later his body was hanged in a tree and set on fire.

Apart from this, Khokan Chandra Das, a 50-year-old Hindu businessman in Bangladesh was also brutally attacked and then burnt alive. After which he died in the hospital three days later.

Bangladesh Police said that after the murder of Dipu Chandra Das, the main accused Yasin Arafat had fled from the area and was hiding, who was arrested by the police on Thursday (January 8, 2026).
