Anti-India Maulana Mamunul Haq lost his seat in the general elections of Bangladesh. Bangladesh Khilafat Majlis candidate Mamunul Haq lost the election from Dhaka 13 seat. Bobby Hajaj of BNP won this seat.

Violence was instigated during PM Modi’s visit to Bangladesh
Prime Minister Narendra Modi visited Bangladesh on 26 March 2021 on the occasion of the independence anniversary of Bangladesh. During his visit, radical Muslim organization Hefazat-e-Islam protested at many places. The situation turned violent and many people died in the clashes. In this case, the organization’s joint general secretary Mamunul Haq was arrested by the police on charges of inciting people.

Arrest during Sheikh Hasina’s tenure
Mamunul Haq was arrested on many charges including inciting violence during Sheikh Hasina’s tenure. At that time the government had taken strict action against him. Last month, the interim government formed after Sheikh Hasina stepped down and left the country following anti-government protests, released Mamunul Haq and some other fundamentalist leaders.

Hifazat-e-Islam was formed in 2010
Hifazat-e-Islam was established in the year 2010. This organization supports strict Islamic thinking. It has many times raised its voice against changes in the Constitution and society. This organization has also been in the news regarding the running of madrassas and the issue of Islamic system. Mamunul Haq has been one of the prominent faces of the organization. Mamunul Haq, born in the year 1973, has been in the news among both supporters and opponents due to his provocative speeches and radical thinking.

Prominent leader of Jamaat-e-Islami also lost his seat
Jamaat-e-Islami’s second in command Mian Ghulam Parwar also lost his seat. In all the surveys, Jamaat’s victory on this seat was claimed.

On the other hand, Bangladesh Election Commission has decided to postpone the results of three constituencies in the 13th National Parliament elections. These seats are Sherpur-2, Chittagong-2 and Chittagong-4. Mohammad Shahidul Islam, Senior Assistant Secretary of the Election Commission Secretariat, said that the results of these seats have been withheld for the time being due to legal matters related to the winning candidates.
