Bank Holiday Next Week: We should plan in advance when to go to the bank and for what purpose, because many times banks are closed due to holidays and time is wasted in commuting. There will be a two-day bank holiday in the week from May 4 to May 10, 2026. Apart from these holidays, regular holiday of Sunday is also included, which may impact the services available in bank branches.

According to the holiday calendar released by the Reserve Bank of India, all banks including State Bank of India, HDFC Bank, ICICI Bank and other banks celebrate several holidays every month. These holidays usually include the second and fourth Saturdays as well as all Sundays. In the coming days, the functioning of banks may come to a halt for two days.

List of bank holidays next week

• 9 May (Saturday)- Banks will remain closed in Kolkata on the occasion of the birth anniversary of Rabindranath Tagore. Bank branches will remain open in other parts of the country.
• 10 May (Sunday)- Banks will remain closed across India due to weekly holidays. Since banking holidays vary as per local customs, customers are advised to confirm the schedules with their respective branches to avoid any inconvenience.

Why will there be a holiday in Kolkata on 9th May?

In Kolkata, May 9 is a holiday to celebrate Rabindranath Tagore Jayanti, also known as Rabindra Jayanti or ‘Pachchishe Boishakh’. Although his birthday falls on 7th May, this year it will be celebrated on 9th May.

Rabindranath Tagore was born in Kolkata in 1861 and is considered one of India’s greatest literary and cultural figures. This day is celebrated to remember his immense contribution in the field of literature, music and art.

Bank holidays are not uniform across the country, they are influenced by regional festivals, cultural events and special occasions of the states. Apart from these, as per RBI rules, all banks remain closed on Gazetted Public Holidays as well as on second and fourth Saturdays and every Sunday. Generally, bank branches remain open on 1st, 3rd and 5th Saturdays, unless any special holiday is declared.
