If you have any necessary work related to the bank, then this news is important for you. This week, banks across the country are going to be closed for two days continuously. There will be a weekly holiday on Sunday, May 11, everyone knows, but the next day i.e. Monday, May 12, the bank will be closed, maybe some people may not know. In fact, on Monday, banks will be closed across the country on the occasion of Buddha Purnima. This means that people will have to wait for May 13 to do any work related to banking services.

What has RBI said?

A total of 6 holidays have been announced by the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) in May 2025. Apart from this, banks are closed every Sunday and the second and fourth Saturdays of the month. In such a situation, customers are advised to do their banking work in advance so that any inconvenience can be avoided.

Talking about this week’s holidays, all the banks across the country will remain closed on May 11 (Sunday). The next day, banking services will be closed due to Buddha Purnima on May 12 (Monday). This holiday will be applicable in almost all the states including Delhi, Mumbai, Lucknow, Bhopal, Kolkata, Jammu, Ranchi, Dehradun, Shimla and Srinagar. Subsequently, on 16 May (Friday), banks in Sikkim will remain closed only on the occasion of Sikkim State Day. There will be a weekly holiday again on 18 May (Sunday).

When will the banks be closed in these states

There is a long list of holidays even in the remaining days of May. The fourth Saturday will be held on 24 May and Sunday on 25 May. On May 26, banks will remain closed on the occasion of Kazi Nazrul Islam’s birth anniversary in Tripura. At the same time, banking services will be disrupted in Himachal Pradesh on May 29 to commemorate Maharana Pratap Jayanti.

However, despite the bank closure, digital banking services such as mobile apps, net banking and ATM services will continue. But customers should keep in mind that transaction services associated with check and prominent note will not be available during these holidays, as they fall under the Negotiable Instruments Act.

Bank holidays may vary according to the states, as many holidays are based on local festivals and opportunities. Therefore, it would be better for customers to take information about the holidays from their nearest bank branch in advance and prepare for any necessary transactions or emergency.
