Many times we get mutilated and dyed notes. Now the biggest problem is that any person refuses to take such notes, whether it is rickshaw or metro employee. Apart from this, many times torn notes come out of ATM, which become a problem. In such a situation, you do not need to panic because you can easily change these notes by going to the bank. For this, RBI has made some rules. This is called RBI Note Exchange Policy. Under this, any person can easily change the cut notes with banks or RBI. In such a situation, RBI has made some special rules for this. So let’s know how changes can be changed.

Which notes will be replaced
If you also have a cut or painted note, then there is no need to worry at all. You can easily change them by going to the bank. So let’s know what kind of notes are changed in the bank:
1. Cuttled notes- If a part of a note burst, but the identity of that note is still left, then the bank immediately changes it.
2. Bad note- If there is oil, spices, stains, chemicals or any kind of damage on the note, then that notes will also be replaced.
3. Worse notes – Some notes are in a very poor condition such as- burnt, very old or completely torn notes, you can easily change them without any problem.
4. Washing notes- If a note is washed away in water or it gets blurred, then you can also get such notes changed.
5. Written or dyed note- Sometimes something is written on notes and many times the notes are dyed. In such a situation, you can easily change those notes.

Where will notes be replaced
You can exchange your old, mutilated and burnt notes in these places:

In any government bank branch

In any private bank branch

In any currency chest branch

In any RBI issue office

Under the rules of any bank, whether it is private or government, RBI rules, they need to take mutilated and bad notes. In such a situation, if the condition of the note is very bad, then you have to take them to the RBI Issue Office, where you will be given the changed notes.

Also read this: You can also fill the vehicle with mobile, this will be like this in minutes

Government on 500 Rupees Notes: It was claimed in many media reports that 500 rupee notes would stop coming out of the ATM. The Finance Ministry has given clarification on this. On behalf of the government, it was said in Parliament that keeping in mind the needs of public transactions, the RBI will ensure that the number of notes of all value class is balanced.

RBI instructions to banks:

To ensure easily access to small value notes, RBI has directed all banks and white label ATM operators to ensure the number of 100 and 200 rupee notes by 75 percent by 30 September 2025, and increase their number by 90 percent by 31 March 2026.

Are 500 rupee notes being closed?

The government aims to stop the 500 rupee notes, but to increase the availability of low price class notes. In response to a question in Parliament, the government clarified that there is no basis for the 500 rupee notes and concerns about their release from ATM.

Why this step was taken?

During the Rajya Sabha session, on 5 August 2025, members of the Upper House. Venkat Subba Reddy and Milind Deora raised this question. It is worth noting that earlier also the RBI had instructed banks to ensure the availability of low value notes in ATMs so that the general public does not have any problem in daily transactions. Whenever people get upset in financial matters, instructions have been given to banks from time to time. But, due to fake reports many times, there is doubt among the people that the government is not closing the high value note.

Rbi on atm dispense: A big decree has been issued by the Reserve Bank of India regarding Rs 100 and Rs 200 to all banks. Because of this, there is a situation like a stir in the banks. The banking regulator said in its circular issued about both notes that their order should be considered as soon as possible and it should be implemented. Now let us tell you what RBI has said in its order given to banks.

In the circular issued on Monday, the RBI asked all the banks of the country to ensure that 100 rupees and 200 rupee notes also come out of the ATM, so that their availability remains in the market. Banks and white label ATM operators (WLAOS) have been asked to implement this order of RBI in a phased manner.

Significantly, the ATM operated by non-banking institutions is called white label ATM. The RBI has further stated in its circular that by September 30, 2025, in the country’s 75 percent ATM, at least one cassette, 100 rupees or 200 rupee notes will have to be withdrawn and the bank will have to ensure it. After this, by 31 March, 2026, 90 percent of the country’s ATM should be removed from one cassette or Rs 200 note.

The central bank said that it is necessary to do so to increase the availability of these notes for the public. Banks and white label ATM operators (WLAAO) will have to implement this instruction in a phased manner. The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) said in a circular, “It has been decided to increase public reach to the bank’s bank note, that all banks and white label ATM operators (WLAAOs) will ensure that Rs 100 and Rs 200 notes are also released from their ATMs on regular basis.”
