As soon as the news of the detention of the student leaders spread, the students sitting on strike also reached the Kotwali police station and started raising slogans outside the police station.

The girl students participating in the protest allege that the student leaders were detained not for protesting against the fee hike, but for calling the collector a reel star. The students say that this was not a derogatory comment.
