Strait of Hormuz: Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi told parliament that Tokyo has no plans to send naval ships to protect oil tankers passing through the Strait of Hormuz. The Prime Minister said, “We have not yet taken any decision whether we will deploy the ships or not. We are looking at what Japan can do independently and what is possible within the legal framework.”

This statement has come at a time when US President Donald Trump is continuously appealing to his allies to help protect this important waterway, through which one-fifth of the world’s oil supply passes.
