You must have often seen in Indian Premier League matches that a green tree is shown when a dot ball is played. What is the meaning of this green tree and what does it have to do with IPL. Actually, BCCI along with Tata Group had started a green initiative. This initiative was started in the year 2023, under which 19 trees will be planted for every dot ball bowled in IPL matches. However, for playoff matches the number of trees increases to 500. Meaning, for every dot ball in the playoff matches, BCCI plants 500 trees.

Whenever a dot ball is bowled in IPL matches, 19 trees are planted for it. It is being told that till now 6 lakh trees have been planted under this initiative in IPL 2026. Suppose if 50 dot balls are bowled in both the innings of an IPL match, then 950 trees will be planted for that.

Talking about bowlers, Mohammad Siraj alone has bowled 109 dot balls in IPL 2026. Joffra Archer and Kagiso Rabada have also bowled more than 100 dot balls this season. This means that these three bowlers alone have become the reason for planting more than 6,000 trees in the entire season so far. Mohammed Shami and Anshul Kamboj have also bowled a lot of dot balls this season.

Dale Steyn holds the record for bowling the most number of dot balls in an IPL season. He bowled 211 dot balls while playing for Sunrisers Hyderabad in the 2013 season. But in those days this green revolution of BCCI had not started. Usually 3000-5000 dot balls are bowled in a season. On that basis, BCCI inspires people across the world to join the Green Revolution by planting millions of trees every season.
