The Election Commission has almost doubled the security arrangements for the re-polling on Falta Assembly seat of West Bengal on 21 May 2026. A senior election official gave this information on Wednesday. Last month, voting in this constituency was canceled after allegations of large-scale tampering of electronic voting machines (EVMs). An official of the state Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) office said that eight Central Armed Police Force (CAPF) personnel will be deployed at each polling station. He said that during the voting held on April 29, only four soldiers were deployed at each booth.

An Election Commission official told ‘PTI-Bhasha’, “This time the Commission does not want to leave any scope for any kind of irregularity. Therefore, the security arrangements have been greatly strengthened.” The official said that there are 285 polling stations in Falta assembly constituency and about 35 companies of central forces will be deployed to ensure peaceful voting. He said that the deployment of security forces for re-polling will be almost double as compared to earlier. Apart from this, 30 quick response teams will also be deployed to immediately deal with any disturbance situation.

A senior election official said, “The aim is to intervene immediately even in case of minor disturbances.” He said that the Commission has also tightened the monitoring system. Two web cameras will be installed inside each polling station and one camera outside, while live webcasting of the voting process and surrounding areas will be done.

TMC candidate withdrew his name

“Monitoring will be done from the offices of the District Electoral Officer (DEO) and the Chief Electoral Officer (CEO),” he said. The official said that drone surveillance is also being considered on the day of re-polling. “Three election observers have been appointed to monitor the re-polling process,” he said. Meanwhile, the state police has started action ahead of re-polling.

A senior Bengal Police officer said, “We have arrested several people, including Falta Panchayat Samiti vice president Saidul Khan.” On Tuesday, Trinamool Congress candidate Jahangir Khan announced that he will not be a candidate in the re-polling on Thursday. Trinamool Congress said that this decision is Khan’s personal decision, not that of the party. Bharatiya Janata Party has made Debangshu Panda its candidate against Jahangir Khan.

Evidence of irregularities found at many booths

Earlier, during the voting on April 29, there was tension in the constituency after complaints were received from several polling stations about perfume and adhesive tape being applied on EVMs. The then special observer Subrata Gupta himself visited the constituency and conducted the investigation. It is said that evidence of tampering was found at at least 60 polling stations. Apart from the alleged tampering of EVMs, attempts to tamper with the footage of web cameras installed at several polling stations were also detected. After this, questions were raised on the role of booth level officers, presiding officers, polling personnel and even election observers. After this, the Election Commission had ordered re-polling at all the polling stations in the entire constituency.

Kolkata Police on Tuesday arrested ‘Bangla Pokho’ leader Garga Chatterjee for spreading misinformation about Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) during the recently concluded Bengal Assembly elections. A senior officer gave this information.

Chatterjee was arrested by the Cyber Crime Branch of Kolkata Police after he allegedly ignored two summons issued to him in connection with complaints lodged against him for his post during the election period, officials said.

Police said the action was taken following complaints by election officials alleging that Chatterjee’s posts spread misinformation and create distrust in the voting process.

Kolkata Police Commissioner Ajay Nand told reporters in Lalbazar, “A complaint against him was lodged by the District Election Officer (DEO) of Kolkata North after which the cyber cell started action. He was summoned twice in this case but he did not appear and that is why he was arrested today.

Nand said the police have also taken cognizance of several social media posts by Chatterjee allegedly targeting different communities and promoting divisive views.

The Commissioner said, ‘The police have taken action even after taking suo motu cognizance. He repeatedly posted content related to different communities on social media. There were divisive sentiments in these posts and complaints related to this are also being registered. According to sources, Chatterjee may be produced in the court on Wednesday and the police may seek his custody for questioning.

The arrest comes weeks after Chatterjee repeatedly questioned the functioning of EVMs and the role of the Election Commission of India through social media posts and public comments during the election campaign and voting phases.

This arrest is important in view of the politically tense atmosphere after the assembly elections. ‘Bangla Pokkho’ is an organization advocating Bengali interests.

BJP leader Agnimitra Paul, who took oath as a minister after the formation of the new BJP government in West Bengal, has made a big attack on Mamata Banerjee and Trinamool Congress. He said that Trinamool Congress leaders considered Mamata Banerjee like God, but the results of the recent assembly elections have made it clear that she is neither God nor above the law.

Agnimitra Paul said while talking to NDTV that Mamata Banerjee and Abhishek Banerjee talked a lot during the elections, but the people of West Bengal have given their verdict. He said that Mamata Banerjee should understand that she is not above the Constitution and law of India. Paul also said that many TMC MLAs and MPs tried to please Mamata Banerjee by calling her “Maa Sarada”, whereas people consider Maa Sarada as God. According to him, Mamata Banerjee never tried to stop such things. He said that now the people of West Bengal have made everything clear and they do not need to say anything to Mamata Banerjee.

BJP leader Shubhendu Adhikari took oath as the Chief Minister of West Bengal on Saturday (9 May 2026) in the presence of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Home Minister Amit Shah and many senior BJP leaders. Apart from Agnimitra Paul, Dilip Ghosh, Nisith Pramanik, Kshudiram Tudu and Ashok Kirtaniya also took oath as ministers. When Agnimitra Paul was asked whether BJP should have chosen a woman Chief Minister, she said that Subhendu Adhikari’s long political experience makes her the most suitable for the post. He said that Suvendu Adhikari has been active in politics for the last 30 years and has given strong leadership to the party inside and outside the Assembly. According to him, there was no better option at this time.

What are the priorities of Subhendu government in Bengal?

Talking about the priorities of the new government, Agnimitra Paul said that first of all it is necessary to improve the law and order. He alleged that the police system was used politically in the previous government. He said that the second biggest priority is to develop basic facilities in the state. In many places people are not getting essential facilities like water, houses, roads, drainage and toilets. Apart from this, he said that the third biggest need is employment. According to him, a large number of youth of West Bengal have gone to other states in search of work and the new government will bring them back and provide them employment opportunities in the state.

BJP won 207 seats

In the West Bengal Assembly elections, BJP has achieved a big victory by winning 207 seats, while Trinamool Congress got 80 seats. Shubhendu Adhikari had led the BJP’s campaign in this election and strongly raised issues like infiltration and Hindutva.

Mamata Banerjee: After the shocking results of West Bengal Assembly elections, the activities of administrative reshuffle intensified. The Governor dissolved the West Bengal Assembly on May 7 and with this, the way for the formation of a new government was also cleared. The name of the new Chief Minister of the state can be approved tomorrow i.e. Saturday, May 9, for which not only West Bengal but the entire country is waiting.

Trinamool Congress, under the leadership of Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, has been in power in Bengal for more than a decade. During this period, party chief Mamata Banerjee remained in the headlines for many reasons. Another thing that was always discussed about him was that he did not take a single rupee salary during his tenure.

It has been said that during the last 15 years in power, he did not take a single rupee salary nor did he avail the benefit of pension as MP and MLA. In such a situation, the question obviously arises that how would he survive without salary or pension while holding such a high position?

How does your sister survive?

In an interview, Mamata Banerjee had revealed that she neither took her salary as Chief Minister nor touched her pension as an MP. His means of earning are book writing, painting and song writing. According to reports, apart from being a politician, Mamata Banerjee has also been a popular writer. She has written more than 100 books. He gets royalty from the books he writes, which is a major source of his income. From this they earn around Rs 10-11 lakh annually.

She also does painting. She donates part of the earnings from this. However, she also keeps some amount for her own needs. She also writes lyrics for songs. The production house for which she writes song lyrics pays her up to Rs 3 lakh annually. This has also been a major source of his income. Didi once said that she is alone so she does not need much money to survive. With the amount they earn, their work can be done comfortably.

How much pension will you get now?

If she chooses to take pension after stepping down from the post of Chief Minister, she will be entitled to multiple pensions and facilities simultaneously. Mamta Banerjee has been a Member of Parliament (MP) seven times, so the largest part of her possible pension will come from this. According to the current rules, former MPs who have held the post for at least five years get a basic pension of Rs 31,000 every month. An additional Rs 2,500 is added for every additional year of service. Considering his long parliamentary career of about 25–30 years, his MP pension alone can be around Rs 80,000 to Rs 1 lakh every month.

Apart from her tenure as MP, Banerjee has also been an MLA and Chief Minister. Under West Bengal rules, former MLAs get pension based on their salary structure, which is currently around Rs 1.21 lakh per month. However, the method of pension calculation may differ. As a former Chief Minister, he is also entitled to lifetime benefits, including medical facilities, Z+ security, staff and government accommodation.

Rules for more than one pension

Generally, people who have served as both MP and MLA can choose one pension – usually the higher pension. Banerjee has had a long tenure as MP, so probably her pension will be the highest. If he decides to accept this pension, he will get an amount of more than Rs 1 lakh every month.
Mamata Banerjee: Recently assembly elections were held in West Bengal. But when the results came on May 4, 2026, there was more talk of defeat than victory in political circles. BJP hoisted the flag of victory in Bengal by securing more seats than the majority.

At the same time, after being the Chief Minister (Bengal CM) for three consecutive terms, Mamata Banerjee had to face a crushing defeat. After the victory of BJP and the defeat of Trinamool Congress (TMC), there is an atmosphere of happiness and sadness in West Bengal. But this is being seen for the first time when in politics, the defeat of any party has become a topic of discussion more than the victory.

There is more talk of TMC’s defeat in Bengal than BJP’s victory.

Even after the results of the assembly elections in West Bengal, the political atmosphere is heated. The swearing-in ceremony of the new government (West Bengal CM Oath ceremony) is proposed in Bengal on Saturday, 9 May 2026. But TMC’s Mamata Banerjee was adamant that she has not lost and will not resign from the post of Chief Minister.

On this subject, Mamata says that – in view of the recent election results, she will not resign, because she believes that the votes were forcibly looted and the entire voting process was rigged. Therefore, even after losing the West Bengal Assembly elections, he has refused to resign from the post of Chief Minister (Mamata Banerjee Resignation).

Meanwhile, according to the latest information, the Governor of West Bengal has announced the dissolution of the Assembly. Let us tell you that on Thursday, May 7, 2026, the five-year tenure of the West Bengal Assembly had ended. In such a situation, the Assembly was dissolved as per constitutional rules, so that any kind of legal crisis does not arise. Now it will not make any difference whether Mamata Banerjee resigns or not.

Mamata Banerjee’s insistence on not resigning even after the election results and her stubborn nature remains a topic of discussion all around. If we look at it from an astrological point of view, astrology expresses a person’s emotions as well as emotions.

The position of the planets is responsible for good and bad emotions. For example, if the mind is stable then the Moon in the horoscope is auspicious and if it is unstable then the Moon is inauspicious. Similarly, the inauspicious position of some planets plays a role in making a person’s self-consciousness angry, stubborn and harsh. Come From Dr. Anish Vyas, Director of Pal Balaji Astrology Institute, Jaipur, Jodhpur and a well-known astrologer of the country. Know about these planets-

Mars- Due to the ill effects of Mars in the horoscope, situations like anger, excessive impulsiveness and resentment, fierceness in emotions and tension in relationships can arise in the person.

Saturn- If Saturn is not auspicious, it creates fear, distrust, emotional distance, sadness and depression in the person.

Rahu- The inauspiciousness of shadow planet Rahu creates feelings like illusion, illusion, attachment and getting trapped in wrong relationships.

Ketu- If Ketu is not auspicious in the horoscope then it increases feelings like detachment, dissatisfaction, emotional emptiness and loneliness.

Mamata Banerjee Bengal Election 2026: Mamata Banerjee’s party Trinamool Congress (TMC) remained in power in West Bengal for 15 consecutive years. But the results of the assembly elections on May 4, 2026 snatched away the post of Chief Minister from Mamata Banerjee.

West Bengal (After being the Chief Minister for three consecutive times in West Bengal, Mamata did not get the support of the public mandate for the fourth time. Now the Bharatiya Janata Party government is going to be formed in Bengal. The swearing-in ceremony of the new Chief Minister will be held in West Bengal on 9 May 2026. After the defeat of Mamata, many such parties are coming to the fore, which could be the main reason for the defeat of TMC.

According to astrological analysis, if we look at Mamata Banerjee’s horoscope, the Saturn-Mars conjunction (Shani Mangal) and the inauspicious position of Ketu planet are being said to be responsible for her defeat. Come Dr. Anish Vyas, director of Pal Balaji Astrology Institute, Jaipur, Jodhpur and a well-known astrologer of the country. Let us know about these planets who played with Mamata Didi.

Big reason for Mamata Banerjee’s defeat! (Mamata Banerjee Why Lose Bengal Election 2026)

The results of the Assembly elections in West Bengal were released on May 4, according to which, out of total 294 seats, elections have been held on 293 seats and re-polling will be held on Falta seat on May 21. In the Bengal elections, Mamata Banerjee’s party All India Trinamool Congress was limited to only 80 seats. Not only this, Mamata Banerjee also got a huge defeat from BJP’s Suvendu Adhikari from Bhabanipur seat of South Kolkata.

Rabindranath Tagore Jayanti 2026: When will Rabindranath Tagore Jayanti be celebrated on 7th or 9th May, know how to be called ‘Gurudev’

Mamta Banerjee’s planetary report card

According to the information available on the internet, TMC supremo Mamata Banerjee was born on January 5, 1955. His horoscope is of Capricorn ascendant. In the horoscope, Sun is in Capricorn and Moon is in Taurus, which makes Mamata’s nature stubborn, but also hardworking and gives her the strength to stay connected with the public. However, the conjunction of Saturn and Mars in the horoscope in 2026 is creating challenges. Saturn’s antardasha is going on Mamata Banerjee. At this time, there is a conjunction of Mars and Saturn in the eighth house from his zodiac sign, which are situated in his expenditure house. Therefore it became difficult to come to power for the fourth time.

Ketu period in Mamata Banerjee’s zodiac sign

According to astrology, Mamta’s name zodiac sign is ‘Leo’. Currently, Ketu is present in Leo, due to which it becomes difficult to get power and leadership. Due to Ketu being in Leo, ego increases and one does not get desired results.

The change of power in West Bengal after 15 years not only changed the government, but also brought to the center stage those five big issues which had become more complicated instead of being resolved during Mamata Banerjee’s rule. In this election, BJP has dominated the development issues by winning 207 seats. These are the same issues which were increasing in Bengal for the last 15 years. Now there is hope that the situation will change. Let us understand these issues, BJP’s promises and 5 major benefits of ‘double engine government’.

1. Illegal immigration and demographic change

Situation in Mamata Raj: TMC continued to be accused of Muslim appeasement regarding Bangladesh and Rohingya infiltration. The border districts are the biggest proof of this. Border districts like Malda, Murshidabad and North Dinajpur saw a huge increase in Muslim population due to illegal migration from Bangladesh. In some areas this population increased to 55% to 60%.

BJP’s promise: Identifying illegal infiltrators and expelling them and strengthening border security.

Advantage of double engine: With the policies of the Center and the State being unified, border fencing, implementation of NRC and strict action against infiltration will now be possible without political hindrances.

2. Law and order and women’s safety

Situation in Mamata Raj: Issues like RG Kar Medical College scandal and Sandeshkhali tarnished the image of the state at the national level. Women made insecurity a big issue in the elections. Rekha Patra, who became the face of the Sandeshkhali movement, was made the BJP candidate from Hingalganj seat and RG Kar victim’s mother Ratna Debnath was made the candidate from Panihati seat. In the election results, Rekha Patra won her seat by 5,421 votes, while Ratna Debnath won by a margin of 28,836 votes.

BJP’s promise: Implementing ‘UP Model’ in the state and curbing the hooliganism of TMC workers.

Advantage of double engine: Better coordination between central agencies and state police will curb crime. The peaceful voting (except for some violence) after the deployment of more than 2,40,000 central forces in the elections is an example of this.

3. Corruption and syndicate culture

Situation in Mamata Raj: Supreme Court canceled more than 25,000 appointments in the teacher appointment scam. Cut-money and syndicate had become a part of the political system. Critics allege that these syndicates flourish under the patronage of the ruling party, thereby promoting corruption and lawlessness.

BJP’s promise: End all syndicates as soon as they come to power and take strict action against corruption.

Advantage of double engine: With full support to central agencies like ED and CBI at the state level, investigation of big scams will speed up and the system will become transparent.

4. Unemployment and migrating industry

Situation in Mamata Raj: Youth unemployment and migration remained a big issue due to Tata Nano, opposition violence and bad environment for investors. According to PLFS (October-December 2025), Bengal’s unemployment rate is 3.6%, which is lower than the national average of 4.8%. At the same time, in some other reports this rate has been said to increase to 10.6%.

BJP’s promise: Restarting closed industries, bringing investment and guaranteeing Rs 3,000 per month in the accounts of youth and women.

Advantage of double engine: The industrial policies of the Center will be directly applicable to Bengal. The business world will get a stable policy environment, due to which employment opportunities will increase rapidly.

5. Incomplete benefit of welfare schemes

Situation in Mamata Raj: Central schemes like Awas, Ujjwala and Kisan Samman were often not implemented at the state level, leaving people deprived.

BJP’s promise: To ensure 100% implementation of all the schemes of the Centre.

Advantage of double engine: With coordination between the Center and the State, the schemes will reach the people directly, due to which development will happen at double the speed.

It is worth noting that BJP got 38% votes in Bengal in 2021. This increased to 45.64% in 2026, while TMC fell from 48% to 40.80%. This vote has gone in favor of guaranteeing development and stability. In such a situation, the biggest question is whether BJP will be able to fulfill these promises? Only time will answer this, but with the government of the same party at the Center and the state, the policy tussle will end and the decision making process will be faster. This is the reason why experts believe that ‘double engine government’ is the real guarantee to complete these five incomplete issues of Bengal.

This time a big political change has been seen in the results of West Bengal Assembly elections. The biggest setback has been suffered by Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, who has lost from Bhawanipur seat against Leader of Opposition Subhendu Adhikari by 15,501 votes. According to the Election Commission, Subhendu Adhikari got 73,917 votes, while Mamata Banerjee got 58,801 votes. Earlier in 2021 also, Mamata Banerjee had lost to Shubhendu Adhikari on Nandigram seat by about 1,500 votes. Thus, this is the second consecutive time that he has faced defeat from his former ally.

This result is part of a larger wave in which the Bharatiya Janata Party has performed strongly across the state. During this period, many big leaders and ministers of Trinamool Congress also lost the elections. Minister of State for Finance Chandrima Bhattacharya lost from Dumdum North by about 16,000 votes. Debashish Kumar lost from Rash Behari by 21,000 votes and Education Minister Bratya Basu lost from Dumdum by more than 25,000 votes. Jyotipriya Mallik lost in Habra by more than 31,000 votes. Shashi Panja from Shyampukur and Arup Biswas from Tollygunge also could not save their seats.

Trinamool suffered big loss

Trinamool suffered big losses in other areas also. Agriculture Minister Becharam Manna lost from Singur by more than 21,000 votes. Indranil Sen from Chandannagar and Manas Bhuiyan from Sabang also lost the election. Paresh Chandra Adhikari, who was embroiled in the teacher recruitment case, also had to face defeat by about 30,000 votes. Sujit Basu lost from Bidhannagar by 37,000 votes, while Gautam Deb lost from Siliguri by more than 73,000 votes. Shaukat Mollah, considered close to Mamata Banerjee, was defeated by ISF’s Naushad Siddiqui by more than 32,000 votes from Bhangar seat. The defeat of Udayan Guha from Dinhata, Sabyasachi Dutta from Barasat and Minister Malay Ghatak from Asansol North also clearly shows that this time the voters have taken a big decision.

Record turnout in elections

This election was considered very important for Mamata Banerjee. After being in power for 15 years, this election was a big test of his leadership. If she had won, her position in future politics would have been stronger, but this time she had to face many challenges, such as allegations of corruption, recruitment scams and public resentment. There are a total of 294 seats in the state and tough competition was seen on many seats. Seats like Bhawanipur, Nandigram, Tollygunge, Dinhata, Singur, Bhangar, Kharagpur, Siliguri, Barrackpur and Rash Behari were in discussion. Another special thing about this election was the record voting. A total of 92.47 percent voting took place in the elections held in two phases. Voting was 93.13 percent in the first phase and 91.66 percent in the second phase. This is the highest turnout so far, surpassing the record of 2011.

Bengal Election 2026: This time the political equations were seen changing completely in the West Bengal Assembly elections. Women and Muslim voters, i.e. the ‘two M factors’, which were considered the strength of Trinamool Congress (TMC) for a long time, were seen weakening this time, which had a direct impact on the election results.

BJP’s focus on women factor
BJP campaigned heavily making the failure of the Women’s Reservation Bill an issue. Not only this, the party also made many big announcements keeping women at the center. Its effect is clearly visible in the elections. Incidents like rape and murder in RG Kar Medical College also raised serious questions regarding safety among women, due to which TMC’s hold seemed to be weakening.

There was a situation of fragmentation in Muslim votes.
Now talking about the second ‘M’ i.e. Muslim factor, this time this community did not appear united like before. Muslim voters have been playing an important role in Mamata Banerjee’s politics, but this time this equation seemed to be breaking. There is also discussion within TMC that Mamata Banerjee could not effectively represent the community on issues like SIR, Waqf and exclusion of Muslim castes from the OBC list. For this reason, Muslim voters were not united with TMC like before.

Hindu voters are inclined towards BJP
On the other hand, Hindu voters appeared more mobilized in favor of BJP than before, the effect of which was clearly visible in the results. BJP won 8 seats in a Muslim dominated district like Murshidabad, which is considered a stronghold of TMC.

Equation changed in many districts
BJP won 6 seats in Malda. Apart from this, distribution of Muslim votes was also seen in districts like North 24 Parganas, South 24 Parganas and West Bardhaman. Experts believe that these two big factors (women and Muslims) went against TMC.

Read this also- How Mamata Banerjee’s fort collapsed in Bengal, from breach in women’s vote bank to polarization of Hindu votes, 5 big factors of losing power

BJP’s victory on key seats
BJP candidate Subrata Maitra won from Muslim dominated Baharampur seat. Apart from this, BJP also won the seats of Khargram, Kandi, Nabagram, Jangipur, Murshidabad, Beldanga and Burwan. BJP’s Amlan Bhaduri won from Malda’s English Bazar seat with a massive victory of 93,784 votes, while Joyel Murmu emerged victorious from Habibpur seat.

Effect of central leadership’s activism
The role of central leadership was also important in BJP’s victory. Prime Minister Narendra Modi himself campaigned in many areas of West Bengal. Whereas Union Home Minister Amit Shah remained in the state for about 10 days. Many leaders including election in-charge Bhupendra Yadav and Biplab Deb strengthened the party by camping continuously. BJP’s strategy was very active not only at the assembly level but also at the booth level, the benefit of which was clearly visible in the election results.
