Bengaluru Cafe No More Meeting: The habit of sitting for long periods of time in Bengaluru’s cafes and restaurants and holding meetings or chatting with friends for hours has now become a cause of controversy. In this city, which is considered an IT and startup hub, cafes are often used as informal offices or meeting spaces, where people sit for hours with a laptop open and a cup of coffee.

Due to this, many restaurant owners have to suffer losses because their tables remain full for a long time, but the orders are less or are given slowly, due to which new customers are not able to get a place and they return. To deal with this problem, some local restaurants have implemented a rule that customers will be charged extra if they sit for more than an hour.

Why was this decision taken?

After the information about this decision came to light, a heated debate started on social media. A notice on the wall of a restaurant in Bengaluru clearly stated that meetings are not allowed and if a customer sits for more than an hour, he will be charged an additional Rs 1000 per hour. Many users expressed their displeasure, calling this an injustice to customers and saying that cafes have always been social places for conversations and meetings. On the other hand, many people supported the restaurant owners, saying that sitting at tables for hours without ordering enough is wrong and causes economic loss to small businesses.
