Bengaluru, known as the IT capital of the country, appears developing to us from a distance. But every day this capital remains in the headlines for things like potholes, traffic jams, water logging etc. In such a situation, the question arises whether development is taking place here or not? After listening to the recent news going on about this city, you will be left wondering even more. Because if reports are to be believed, Rs 100 crore is spent every day on this city, but where is this money going?

100 crores are spent every day
Recently, Times of India, citing a report by an organization named Janaagraha, has said that a total of Rs 38,455 crore has been spent on the city in the financial year 2021-22. If the average of this amount is calculated then it is more than Rs 100 crore. The state government and many public agencies are jointly spending this. When the potholes on the roads remain the same, waterlogging occurs every rain and the traffic jams are continuously increasing, then the question arises that where is this money going?

Who has seen Bengaluru’s expenditure?
The Municipal Corporation bears only about 20% of the total expenditure of Bengaluru. The remaining 80% of the expenditure is controlled by several agencies like Bengaluru Electricity Supply Company, Bengaluru Metro Rail Corporation Limited, Bengaluru Water Supply and Sewage Board and Bengaluru Metropolitan Transport Corporation. All these agencies handle important facilities like electricity, transport and water, but there is some flaw in all these services, in such a situation it is justified for the public to question.

Why doesn’t the situation improve?
The biggest question is that despite such huge expenditure, why is there no improvement in the conditions of the city? According to experts, there are three big reasons behind this:

First of all, this money is scattered among different agencies, due to which it is not spent systematically. To spend this money, there should be a centralized system which keeps track of the entire expenditure.

There are many agencies which do not give details of their expenditure, do not make their data public, which shows a lack of transparency in the system.

There is no accountability or responsibility from the agencies, due to which the system appears weak.

Due to these problems, the situation has become such that even after spending Rs 100 crore every day, the common people are surrounded by problems. People have to remain stuck in traffic for hours, accidents happen due to potholes, there is no electricity supply, there is shortage of water. In such a situation, the public anger is also justified.
