The second phase of voting is going on for 142 assembly seats of West Bengal. The highest is from Bhawanipur seat, from where Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee is contesting, on that seat she is facing competition from BJP candidate Shubhendu Adhikari. The Election Commission has released the voting figures till 9 am, according to which, 17.08 percent voting has taken place in Bhawanipur seat and there are long lines at the polling booths.

Mamta Banerjee accused the Election Commission

Mamata Banerjee has alleged that the police supervisors are dancing to the tune of BJP. He said that it is not the police and security forces who cast their votes, but the public.

Bengal CM said, ‘The Election Commission is openly harassing us. We have sent a notice of contempt of court, yet countless outside observers have been brought here. They are clearly dancing to the tune of BJP. Go to Chakraberia, you will see yourself that all our posters have been removed. Is this how elections are conducted? It is not the police and security forces who vote, but the public. These people have brought some people from outside, and these people are doing nothing except spreading fear and terror among the voters. These will go away soon.

What percentage of voting on which seat?

According to the Election Commission data, till 9 am, 18.20 in Tehatta, 17.42 in Tollygunge, 17.35 in Udaynarayanpur, 17.60 in Uluberia South, 16.98 in Uluberia East, 17.70 in Uluberia North, 18.55 in Uttarpara, 17.48 in Shyampur, 17.48 in Singur. Voting was 20.10, 15.74 in Sonarpur South, 17.11 in Sonarpur North, 19.72 in Shrirampur, 17.95 in Swaroopnagar, 20.12 in Tarakeshwar, 19.51 percent in Sagar.

Voting was 16.68 percent in Sandeshkhali, 17.59 in Sankrail, 20.57 in Saptagram, 17.79 in Satgachia and 17.43 percent in Shibpur. At the same time, 28.24 percent voting took place in the Panihat seat from where the RG tax victim’s mother is contesting.

Mamata’s contest with Shubhendu Adhikari

Shubhendu Adhikari is the same leader who left TMC and joined Bharatiya Janata Party before the 2021 elections and defeated Mamata Banerjee in the elections from Nandigram seat. Earlier, Mamata Banerjee used to contest elections from Nandigram seat only, but after the defeat in the last election, she has decided to contest elections only from Bhawanipur.
