After the end of the first phase of voting, a press conference was held by the Election Commission on Thursday evening. Bihar Chief Electoral Officer Vinod Gunjyal said, “The first phase of voting for Bihar Assembly elections has been successfully completed. The participation of women voters has been very good. 165 ballot units, 169 control units and 480 VVPATs were changed during the voting.

This time voting records were broken in Bihar

According to the Election Commission, there was 62.57 percent voting in the 2000 assembly elections. Whereas in the Lok Sabha elections held in 1998, there was 64.6 percent voting in Bihar. This time all records of voting were broken with 64.66 percent.

1415 people detained

Information about boycott of voting came to light at some other booths including polling booth number 56 of Buxar’s Brahmapur assembly constituency, 165, 166 of Fatuha and polling booth number 1, 2 and 5 in Suryagarha of Lakhisarai. ADG Headquarters Kundan Krishnan said that 1415 people were detained during the elections. On the other hand, the Election Commission received a total of 143 complaints which were resolved in time.

Fate of 16 ministers at stake in the first phase

In the first phase, apart from Samrat Chaudhary, the fate of Vijay Kumar Sinha as well as 16 ministers is also at stake. These include 11 ministers from BJP and five from JDU. In the first phase, there were a total of three crore 75 lakh 13 thousand 302 voters who had to vote. Vijay Sinha’s convoy attacked in Lakhisarai

Deputy CM Vijay Kumar Sinha is a candidate from Lakhisarai seat. On Thursday, when he was in his area, his convoy was attacked. His car was surrounded and slogans of ‘Murdabad’ were raised along with slippers. People stopped him from moving forward. Vijay Kumar Sinha was in Khoriyari village of his constituency. Voting took place for the first phase on Thursday (November 6) on 121 assembly seats in 18 districts of Bihar, but not a single vote was cast at polling booths 165, 166 in the primary school of Nizampur village of Fatuha assembly in Patna district from 7 am to 5.30 pm. Samrat claimed victory on more than 100 seats

Chief Minister Nitish Kumar addressed an election meeting in Jamui amid the voting on 121 seats in the first phase of Bihar Assembly elections on Thursday (6 November). He targeted the pre-2005 government. He said that before 2005, people used to hide in their homes as soon as the evening falls.

He said, “Our government worked on education and health, new schools were opened. Started a bicycle scheme to bring children to school. Reinstated 2 lakh 58 thousand teachers. Earlier the health service was very poor, medicines were made free at health centres. The number of medical colleges was increased. New medical colleges are being built in 27 districts. Roads were built in rural areas.”

Referring to employment, the CM said, “Our government has given employment to 50 lakh youth. Now it has been decided that one crore youth will be given jobs in five years.”

Voting for the first phase of assembly elections is going on in Bihar on Thursday (November 6, 2025). Before the elections, 16 representatives from seven countries reached Patna under the International Election Visitor Program (IEVP) of the Election Commission of India (ECI) and saw the arrangements for the first phase of Bihar elections.

Representatives from Indonesia, Colombia, Philippines, France, Belgium, South Africa and Thailand came to see the Commission’s arrangements for voting. The inaugural session of IEVP 2025 was held on Tuesday at the India International Institute for Democracy and Election Management (IIIDEM), New Delhi. All 16 delegates representing seven countries participated in this session.

Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar and Election Commissioner Vivek Joshi talked to 16 participants from these seven countries. During the conversation, he was informed about the strong electoral structure of India. Along with this, a demonstration of Electronic Voting Machines (EVM) was shown to these representatives. Senior Election Commission officials briefed them on key aspects of election management such as preparation of voter lists and conducting free and fair elections.

Under this program, 16 representatives from 7 countries have reached Bihar. This tour started on Wednesday. During the Bihar tour, these representatives visited EVM dispatch centers and saw the voting process directly.

The IEVP is one of the major initiatives of the Election Commission for international cooperation and engagement with Election Management Bodies (EMBs) around the world. Since 2014, IEVP has been showcasing the strengths of India’s electoral system to the international community and sharing best practices for voting in the world’s largest democracy.

Voting for the first phase of Bihar Assembly elections started at 7 am on 121 seats in 18 districts of the state. There are 1,314 candidates in the fray in this election, including 1,192 male and 122 female candidates. According to the Election Commission, there are a total of 3,75,13,302 voters in this election, which includes 1,98,35,325 men, 1,76,77,219 women and 758 voters of third gender. The total number of polling stations is 45,341, which includes 36,733 polling stations in rural areas and 8,608 polling stations in urban areas.

The Election Commission has declared 320 model polling stations in these districts, out of which 926 are managed by women and 107 are managed by persons with disabilities. Webcasting will be available at all polling stations. There are 5,677 polling stations in the capital Patna, including 541 only for women, 49 model polling stations, 14 disabled-friendly polling stations and three youth-centric polling stations.
