While NDA registered a big victory in the results of Bihar Assembly Elections 2025, another worrying picture emerged. This time the number of Muslim MLAs in the House has come down to only 10, which is the lowest in the last 35 years. Despite the Muslim population in the state being around 17.7%, their political representation is very low which clearly shows the inequality of election strategies and ticket distribution.

In this election, both the Grand Alliance and the NDA expressed less confidence in Muslim faces. There were many seats where Muslim voters traditionally play a decisive role, but political parties fielded non-Muslim candidates in those areas too. AIMIM was not included in the grand alliance, after which the party decided to contest the elections alone. Due to all these reasons, the representation of the Muslim community was significantly reduced and the number of seats came down to a record level.

AIMIM again showed strength in Seemanchal

Asaduddin Owaisi’s party AIMIM maintained its influence in the politics of Seemanchal this time also. The party fielded candidates on 25 seats and won 5 of them. These victories were recorded in seats like Amour, Kochadhaman, Jokihat, Bahadurganj and Bayasi, where Muslim population is high and AIMIM had performed strongly in the last elections also. This time the influence of the party was more clearly visible in the four districts of Seemanchal, Araria, Purnia, Katihar and Kishanganj.

Status of JDU Muslim candidates

JDU has fielded four Muslim candidates in the 2025 elections. Among these, Mohammad Zama Khan came out ahead from Chainpur. Chainpur is not a Muslim dominated area, hence BJP and JDU launched a joint campaign to woo Hindu voters on this seat. In 2020, JDU had given tickets to 11 Muslim faces, but they did not get any success in that election. This time, after reducing the number of candidates, the party was successful in getting one seat.

The only Muslim face of LJP (RV)

Chirag Paswan’s party gave ticket to Mohammad Kalimuddin from Bahadurganj. He survived the competition but remained in third place. AIMIM’s Tausif Alam registered a comfortable victory on this seat, while Congress stood second.

RJD got two Muslim seats

Rashtriya Janata Dal gave limited tickets to Muslim candidates, but the party won on the two seats where it got the opportunity. Asif Ahmed was victorious from Bisfi, while in Raghunathpur, Shahabuddin’s son Osama Saheb won and made the family’s political comeback after 21 years. This time RJD adopted a new balance in ticket distribution, in which an attempt was seen to create a fresh coordination between Yadav, Muslim, EBC, Dalit and upper caste communities.

Mixed situation of Congress in Seemanchal

Congress maintained its presence in Seemanchal like in 2020. Mohammad Kamrul Hoda won from Kishanganj and Abidur Rehman won from Araria. However, a major upset was seen when Congress Legislature Party leader Shakeel Ahmed Khan lost to JDU candidate Dulal Chandra Goswami in Nathnagar.

Lowest number of Muslim MLAs since 1990

If we look at the previous figures of Muslim representation in Bihar, the result of 2025 shows a big decline. In the year 2010, 19 Muslim MLAs won. In 2015 the number increased to 24. Whereas in 2020 again there will be 19 MLAs and in 2025 it will come down to only 10. That is, about 4.1% of the House, while the population is about 17.7%.

Bihar Election Result 2025: As the counting of Bihar Assembly Elections 2025 is reaching the final stages, the trends are making it clear that the NDA government seems to be formed again. In the initial round, BJP and JDU are leading on 167 seats, while the position of the Grand Alliance seems weak. Congress’s claims of vote theft and Rahul Gandhi’s ‘hydrogen bomb’ claim seem to be failing at the moment. The results of Bihar are now becoming a mirror not only of the state but also of the opposition’s strategy.

Congress suffered the most loss

The political circles have become heated as soon as the initial trends have emerged in the counting of Bihar Assembly Elections 2025. NDA is leading on 190 seats and the path to forming their government in the state seems clear. Meanwhile, the Grand Alliance is leading on only 38 seats. BJP is ahead on 90 seats and JDU on 80 seats. Whereas RJD is leading on only 29 seats and Congress on 05 seats, while Left is leading on 6 seats. According to initial trends, Congress has suffered the most loss.

‘Vote theft’ strategy failed

Before the elections, Congress and Rahul Gandhi had loudly alleged that BJP has been forming governments by stealing votes in every state. In Bihar also he had increased the hype about ‘vote theft’. Emphasizing the exit poll results, Rahul Gandhi had claimed that BJP and the Election Commission together are killing democracy. According to him, lakhs of BJP people are roaming around in different states openly and casting their votes and the evidence is being destroyed to hide this ‘theft’. Congress had warned that this issue would go to both the Election Commission and the court.

Hydrogen bomb turns out to be a disaster

But the trends of Bihar are showing that these claims of Rahul Gandhi are not being supported on the ground at present, it would be better to call them mere platitudes. The vote bank of Congress seems weaker than before. His statements like ‘hydrogen bomb’, which were presented in a very dramatic manner before the elections, now seem to be futile. The lead of NDA and the weak position of Grand Alliance made it clear that the public mood and electoral trends in Bihar are telling a different story.

Deep impact on Congress’s credibility in Bihar elections

Political analysts say that this is a clear indication in Bihar that people have given confidence to the NDA alliance in the state. The performance of BJP and JDU has been consistently strong and their strategy is proving successful. At the same time, Congress has not only suffered a loss in seats, but its credibility has also been affected. This game of trends has become a mirror of not only Bihar but also the strategy of the entire opposition.

Easy path to victory for NDA

There is also discussion in political circles that allegations like vote theft will now be limited to mere rhetoric. The voters of Bihar had given the message from the very beginning that they are capable of taking their own decisions. NDA’s lead is an indication that the impact of the Election Commission’s process and voting is clearly visible on the actual results. Ultimately, it is clearly visible in the results that Congress’s ‘rocket’ is failing and the ‘hydrogen bomb’ of vote theft has also failed. The people of Bihar have shown their strength and the path to victory is becoming easier for NDA.

Now only a few hours are left for the final results of Bihar Assembly elections and with the counting, the political atmosphere has become completely heated. The trends till 12 noon have made it clear that this time the contest seems to be one-sided.

According to the data till 12 noon, NDA is leading on 191 seats, which is much more than the absolute majority. In comparison, the Grand Alliance is ahead on only 48 seats, which presents a very disappointing picture for them. The final count of votes may change, but the difference is so big that its impact is likely to be visible on the final results as well.

Grand alliance’s increased concern

This trend is a matter of concern for the Grand Alliance. The Grand Alliance under the leadership of Tejashwi Yadav had campaigned vigorously raising issues like unemployment, inflation and corruption, but from the initial trends it seems that they could not get the expected support. If seen, the seats of the Grand Alliance this time are half of the 2020 elections.

How was the result in the last assembly elections?

In the last assembly elections, NDA crossed the magic majority mark of 122 and won a total of 125 seats. BJP had won 74 seats, JDU 43, VIP 4 and Hindustan Awam Morcha 4 seats.

Grand alliance was limited to so many seats

At the same time, the Grand Alliance contested the elections with full strength and won a total of 110 seats. In this, RJD won 75 seats, Congress 19, CPI-ML 12, while CPI and CPM won 2 seats each.

Apart from these, Asaduddin Owaisi’s AIMIM had registered a spectacular victory on 5 seats, while BSP was able to win on 1 seat. Chirag Paswan’s LJP, which had contested the last election separately from the NDA, was successful in winning only one seat.

The Election Commission announced the dates of Bihar assembly elections on Monday (October 6, 2025). Chief Election Commissioner Dnyanesh Kumar said that elections in the state will be held in two phases- the first phase will be held on November 6 and the second phase will be on 11 November. The counting of votes and the results will be announced on 14 November. With this announcement, the election Ranbheri has been in the politics of Bihar.

A direct contest has been decided between the ruling National Democratic Alliance (NDA) and the opposition ‘India’ alliance in the state. While the NDA is expecting another tenure under the leadership of Janata Dal (United) President and Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, the India alliance formed by Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD), Congress and other opposition parties is to evict the NDA from power. At the same time, Prashant Kishore’s Jan Suraj Party as the third force in the election equation has also made the match more interesting by announcing to fight in all 243 seats.

Grand Alliance election campaign
On behalf of the Grand Alliance, RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav has been made the face of the Chief Minister. The opposition has made the alleged disturbances in the voter list and the issue of ‘vote theft’ a major electoral weapon before the election. The Congress and RJD together took out the ‘Voter Adhikar Yatra’, in which Rahul Gandhi and Tejashwi Yadav roamed across the state and accused the Election Commission that it was manipulating the voter list to benefit the BJP.

After this, Tejashwi Yadav started his separate ‘Bihar Adhikar Yatra’, in which he surrounded the Nitish government on issues like unemployment and increasing crime. The districts were also included in this journey which were released in the previous journey. There is also a discussion in political circles that Tejashwi may also have some additional political objectives behind this journey, especially in the ongoing conversation of seat sharing, such speculation was made.

Congress weakness and RJD strength
There are also internal challenges in front of the Grand Alliance. The Congress vote percentage has fallen continuously since being out of power in 1990. The state unit of the party is considered weak and enthusiastic. At the same time, Lalu Yadav’s family is entangled in legal matters, in which Tejashwi Yadav is also facing ED investigation due to the ‘Land for Job’ scam. Tejashwi’s popularity is enough in the organization, but due to the statements and attitude of his brother Tej Pratap Yadav, he has to pay attention to family management along with political work. Despite this, RJD has a strong basis of the Muslim-Yadav (My) vote bank, which is about 30% of the state’s population.

Screw on seat sharing, entry of new parties
In the Grand Alliance, there is no agreement on seat sharing. In 2020, RJD contested 144 seats and won 75. The Congress won 19 out of 70 seats, while the Left parties performed excellent- CPI-ML won 12 out of 19, CPM won 2 out of 4 and CPI won 2 seats out of 6. This time the alliance has included three new parties- Vikas Human Party (VIP), Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) and LJP. Interestingly, VIP left the Grand Alliance five years ago and joined the NDA. Now the party’s Mukesh Sahni is demanding 60 seats and the post of Deputy Chief Minister. In view of the increasing demands of all these parties, making consensus on seat sharing can prove to be a difficult challenge for the grand alliance. Tejashwi Yadav is trying to give a new look to his image by focusing on the issues of youth. He has put important issues like employment, migration and law and order at the top of the election agenda.

NDA’s strategy, development and trust in ‘double engine’
Chief Minister Nitish Kumar’s JDU and BJP have come out with the goal of maintaining power in this election and increasing the number of seats. NDA is contesting on the slogan of development and ‘double engine government’ i.e. Narendra Modi at the Center and Nitish Kumar in the state.

Nitish Kumar, who has been holding the post of Chief Minister in the state for a long time, is known for his ‘good governance’ image. Recently, his government has launched several popular schemes, including an increase in social security pension, financial assistance of Rs 10,000 to 75 lakh women and large infrastructure projects. The central government has also started many development schemes in Bihar.

BJP and JDU get the benefit of the organized cadre of RSS organizations, such as Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad,. Nitish Kumar himself comes from the Kurmi caste (about 3%), and he has introduced himself as a leader of extremely backward classes (EBC), which is the largest social group in the state. However, BJP is still seen as a ‘Savarna Party’, which is slightly more than 10% of the total population of the state.

The opposition says that Nitish’s declining health and BJP-JDU can be a weakness of the coalition race to become an ‘elder brother’. In 2020, BJP won 74 seats and became the second largest party, while JDU won 43 seats.

Jan Suraj: Prashant Kishore’s new challenge
Electoral strategist -turned -politician Prashant Kishore has introduced himself as a third front through Jan Suraj Party. He has made the issue of governance and failures of the current parties instead of caste -based politics. Kishore has announced that his party will field candidates in all 243 seats. He has made sharp attacks on NDA leaders. On his target, Deputy Chief Minister Samrat Chaudhary, Minister Ashok Chaudhary, Mangal Pandey and BJP MP Sanjay Jaiswal have been.

Interestingly, the same Prashant Kishore, who has been accusing the BJP of having ‘secret support’, is now making the most sharp attack on NDA leaders. It is believed that they can soon take the leaders of the Grand Alliance on their target, which has increased the thrill among the voters.

These leaders will be at stake in Bihar elections

Nitish Kumar
JDU leader Nitish Kumar is currently the Chief Minister. After 20 years, he will have a challenge to compete with anti-power waves and leadership fatigue. At the same time, they have to create a balance between dependence on the alliance and their political legacy. If he wins, then Bihar’s identity as Chief Minister will be confirmed for the longest time, but this time his party loses, then his political domination will be considered as the end.

Tejashwi Yadav
Tejashwi Yadav is the Leader of the Opposition in Bihar. In this election, he has a chance to get out of Lalu Yadav’s shadow. Also, the challenge before him is to increase the Aadhaar from MY (Muslim-Yadav) vote bank. If he wins this election, then the youth of Bihar will become the new face of politics, but if they lose, then his image can always become the second leader.

Chirag Paswan
LJP (Ram Vilas) chief Chirag has described himself as salt in Bihar politics. He is the Dalit face of NDA in Bihar. In front of him, it will be a challenge to move away from the role of a leader who spoils the game and become a real powerful leader. At the same time, his supporters will be in the hope that in the politics of Delhi, the deep penetrated Chirag Patna should also convert his strength into seats. If his party’s performance in this election is good, then he will get different strength in politics, but he may have to marginalize if he loses.

Prashant Kishore
In this time elections of Bihar, a well-known name in political multiplication is in a lot of discussion. It is being talked about Prashant Kishore, the head of Jan Suraj. Electoral strategist -turned -politician Prashant is a challenge in front of Bihar to break up the dominant politics of Bihar. His crushing defeat in this election will be in danger of being irrelevant in politics.

Rahul Gandhi
Congress leader and Rahul Gandhi, who has important importance in the politics of the Center, has been the star campaigner of the opposition alliance in the Bihar elections. There was also a crowd in his rallies, but now there will be a big test of his leadership and party’s base in this election. To prove his importance in India alliance, he is in great need of many important upbuages. The Congress’s good performance in the Bihar assembly elections will tell the story of the party’s return in Bihar and the strength in the India alliance, but if the party gets defeat, then the Congress will go on more marginalized.
