The first session of the 18th Assembly of Bihar began on Monday (December 01, 2025) with the swearing-in of newly elected MLAs. Protem Speaker Narendra Narayan Yadav, appointed by Governor Arif Mohammad Khan, administered the oath to the newly elected members of the House. The formats of the oath were made available to all the MLAs of the 243-member House of Bihar in five languages, Hindi, English, Sanskrit, Urdu and Maithili. While taking oath, Vibha Devi, JDU MLA from Nawada and wife of strongman Rajballabh Yadav, got stuck several times.

JDU MLA calls oath continuous

Vibha Devi’s video has started going viral on social media. Vibha Devi was somehow reciting the oath in the House. Meanwhile, he asked MLA Manorama Devi sitting nearby to tell him. Department Devi said the oath continuously.

While reciting the oath, Vibha Devi said, “I always pray to God…” During this, she said to the JDU MLA Manorama Devi sitting nearby, “Don’t speak small…” When Vibha Devi was stumbling intermittently while reciting the oath, Manorama Devi helped her in between.

Who took oath in which language?

On the other hand, other MLAs in the House took oath in different languages. Many MLAs coming from Mithilanchal region took oath in Maithili, including minister Arun Shankar Prasad and singer Maithili Thakur, the youngest MLA elected from Alinagar. Some MLAs from the minority community and members of Asaduddin Owaisi’s AIMIM took oath in Urdu.

Janata Dal (United) MLA from Sonbarsa Ratnesh Sada and some other members took oath in Sanskrit. Lok Janshakti Party (Ram Vilas) MLA Vishnu Dev Paswan took oath in English. Many MLAs raised slogans like ‘Jai Bihar’, ‘Jai Bharat’, ‘Bihar Zindabad’, ‘Seemanchal Zindabad’ and ‘Jai Bhim’ while taking the oath. Let us tell you that this is the first session of the Assembly in which the proceedings will be conducted completely through digital medium.

BJP MLA Prem Kumar will be the speaker of the assembly. This has now been decided. Will be seen in the speaker’s chair tomorrow (Tuesday). Today (Monday) he has also filed his nomination. The opposition is supporting. The opposition has not given a candidate for the post of speaker. In such a situation, Prem Kumar’s unopposed election tomorrow is considered certain. ‘Everyone’s respect will be taken care of’

While talking to ABP News on Monday (December 01, 2025), Prem Kumar said that this is a temple of democracy. Everyone’s respect will be taken care of. The House will run smoothly. Everyone will be equal for us. Everyone will be given a chance to express their views.

Prem Kumar said that I have no desire for any post. Whatever work is given, I do it honestly. Became MLA from Gaya for the 9th time. Was a minister in Bihar government. Was the leader of opposition. I have long experience. I will work under the same in future also.

BJP’s position strengthened in Bihar

After Prem Kumar becoming the speaker, BJP has now reached a very strong position in Bihar. Home department is with BJP, so now the post of Speaker is also going to go to BJP. Not only this, there are two Deputy CMs from BJP in Bihar. One is Samrat Chaudhary and the other is Vijay Kumar Sinha. BJP has got the maximum number of seats in this election also. BJP has got 89 seats while JDU has got 85 seats.

Let us tell you that while the election for the post of Speaker will be held tomorrow i.e. on 2nd December, the Governor’s address will be held on 3rd December. The winter session is to continue till December 5. On December 4, the motion of thanks on the Governor’s address will be discussed and the government will reply. Floor test of the government is also possible. Also, the Appropriation Bill will be presented on December 5.

Let us tell you that Bihar Governor Arif Mohammad Khan on Monday (24 November) administered the oath of office to Narendra Narayan Yadav as Protem Speaker of Bihar Assembly. Narendra Narayan Yadav has been elected MLA for the eighth consecutive time from Alamganj assembly seat of Madhepura district. He is a senior leader of Janata Dal United (JDU).

In the assembly elections 2025, Narendra Narayan Yadav defeated Nabeen Kumar of Vikassheel Insaan Party (VIP) of Grand Alliance by 55 thousand 465 votes. Narendra Narayan Yadav got 1 lakh 38 thousand 401 votes, while Nabeen Kumar got 82 thousand 936 votes. Subodh Kumar Suman of Jan Suraj stood third on this seat.

When exit polls were proved wrong in Bihar Assembly elections 2020

In the year 2020, an average of 11 exit polls had predicted that the Grand Alliance led by Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) would form the government, albeit by a small margin. During that time, many exit polls had claimed that the Grand Alliance had won 125 seats, which was three seats more than the majority figure (122). At the same time, Nitish Kumar’s Janata Dal United (JDU) was said to get 108 seats.

In 2020, these average 11 exit polls proved wrong. NDA got 17 more seats and Grand Alliance got 15 seats less. Contrary to the exit poll figures, the NDA government came to power. The end result was that the NDA crossed the majority mark in the House by a very small margin. The ruling coalition party NDA got 125 seats (BJP- 74, JDU- 43), while the Grand Alliance got 110 seats (RJD- 75, Congress- 19).

How many exit polls were correct in 2015?

In the year 2015, Nitish Kumar’s JDU was a part of the grand alliance and BJP was leading the NDA. Other local parties were also included in NDA. At that time, six big exit polls had claimed that there would be an equal contest between the Grand Alliance and the NDA, but the government would be formed by the Grand Alliance. Exit polls had estimated that the Grand Alliance could get 123 seats while the BJP-led NDA could get 114 seats.

At the same time, three other exit polls had given the Grand Alliance victory by a huge margin and two exit polls believed that the NDA would form the government. Apart from this, there was an exit poll which indicated the possibility of a hung assembly.

After this, what happened was that the Grand Alliance came to power by winning two-thirds of the seats with a huge margin. That is, the exit poll gave the correct victory figures, but the Grand Alliance brought more seats than expected.

In the Bihar Assembly elections 2015, the Grand Alliance won 178 seats (RJD- 80, JDU- 71, Congress- 27), while the NDA could win only 58 constituencies (BJP- 53).

Where were the exit polls lagging behind in Bihar Assembly elections 2010?

In the 2010 assembly elections, exit polls had claimed the victory of NDA but had underestimated the wave of Nitish Kumar. BJP and JDU were part of NDA, while LJP contested the elections in alliance with RJD. JDU got 115 seats, while BJP got 91 seats. Apart from this, RJD had won 22 seats, Congress 4 and LJP 3 seats.

What happened in Bihar Assembly elections 2005?

Exit polls had predicted a victory for the NDA, and most exit polls had given the NDA 120 to 130 seats, while the RJD+ was projected to get between 90 and 100 seats.

What was the result?
JDU won 88 seats, BJP won 55 seats, while RJD won 54 seats. Whereas, LJP got 10 seats and Congress got 9 seats. Even during this period, the exit polls were lagging far behind in the figures.
