The names of Raj Bhavan and Raj Niwas are being changed on the instructions of the Central Government. Now the name of Raj Bhavan of Bihar has also changed. Officially it will now be known as ‘Bihar Lok Bhawan’. The notification was issued on December 1 under the signature of Robert L. Chongthu, Principal Secretary to the Governor of Bihar. In such a situation, officially the Raj Bhavan of Bihar will be used everywhere as ‘Bihar Lok Bhawan’.

The letter issued reads, “In the light of the letter no. 07/10/2025 (Part) M.&G. dated 25.11.2025 of the Ministry of Home Affairs, Government of India (CS Division), New Delhi, Raj Bhawan Bihar is designated as Bihar Lok Bhawan for all official purposes with immediate effect.”

Name update from X handle to website

The name has started changing after the notification was issued. After the order of the Central Government, the new name has been updated from the website to the X (earlier Twitter) handle also. Along with the X, the new name has been changed to ‘Bihar Lok Bhawan’ on the official website. not only this but The name plates, sign boards and other official boards of Raj Bhawan are being changed to ‘Lok Bhawan’.

Why was the name changed?

Let us tell you that this decision is part of the broader order of the Central Government, in which instructions were given to name the Raj Bhawan of the states and the Raj Niwas of the Union Territories as ‘Lok Bhawan’ and ‘Lok Niwas’ respectively. An order in this regard was issued by the Union Home Ministry on 25 November 2025. If we talk about the government’s intention behind doing this, it is to make the governance system more people-oriented and in line with democratic values.

The names of Raj Bhavans of Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Assam, West Bengal, Uttarakhand, Odisha, Gujarat and Tripura have also been changed. On the other hand, the name of the Prime Minister’s Office has been changed to ‘Seva Teerth’.
