According to the Meteorological Department, today (January 5, 2026), cold day like conditions may arise in some areas of Uttarakhand, Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, West Madhya Pradesh and Bihar. Along with this, there is a possibility of cold wave in Punjab, Haryana and Chandigarh from January 5 to 8, in West Rajasthan from January 5 to 9 and in East Rajasthan from January 5 to 10. Jharkhand may also experience severe cold on 6th and 7th January.

Chances of rain and snowfall in hilly areas

IMD has informed that on January 5 and 6, there may be light rain or snowfall in the high altitude areas of North and Central Kashmir. There is a possibility of rain or snow in some parts of Uttarakhand on January 6. According to meteorologists, the minimum temperature in Central and Eastern India may drop by 2 to 4 degrees for the next three days.

Cold and bad air in Delhi-NCR

The weather will be mostly clear in Delhi and surrounding areas, but light fog may be seen in the morning. The minimum temperature in the capital has been recorded around 7 degrees Celsius. Also, the air quality still remains in the poor category. The effect of cold wave may be visible in some areas of Delhi on January 6.

Chilliness will increase in Uttar Pradesh and Jharkhand

The cold is continuously increasing in Uttar Pradesh. Cities like Kanpur, Lucknow, Prayagraj, Varanasi, Meerut and Noida will feel more cold due to north-westerly winds. At the same time, the effect of cold wave and dense fog will be seen in Jharkhand, due to which life and traffic can be affected.

Most cold in Kashmir valley

The temperature has fallen further in Jammu and Kashmir. The mercury in Gulmarg has reached minus 6.5 degrees, while in Pahalgam also the temperature remains around minus 5 degrees. The weather department has indicated that the cold will increase further in the coming days.

Parts of southwest Bihar will see normal temperature, but the temperature in the rest of the state is expected to be lower than normal.

People will have to take care

In view of the strong wind and thunderclap, the Meteorological Department has advised people to remain alert. It has been instructed to stay away from open grounds, trees and electric poles. However, there is no possibility of rain in most districts of the state on Monday. In most districts including Patna of South Bihar, the weather will remain dry and humid heat will remain. Clouds will remain clean in most districts of North Bihar, only a few western and eastern parts may receive light to moderate rainfall. Which district of Bihar has the highest rainfall?

On Tuesday, many districts including Patna received rain, due to which the temperature dropped. The maximum rainfall was recorded at 117.4 mm in Kishanganj, while Araria received 95 mm, Khagaria 80.4 mm, Samastipur 78.4 mm and Begusarai received 68.4 mm of rainfall. Apart from this, Purnia recorded 62.2 mm, 52.6 mm in Siwan and 50.8 mm in Fatuha in Patna district.

Floods, Bakhtiyarpur, Pandarak, Daniyavan and Atmalgola also received moderate levels. Aurangabad, Madhepura, Nalanda and Rohtas recorded 30 to 50 mm of rainfall. Along with the rain, the temperature also saw a drop. On Tuesday, the capital Patna recorded a temperature of 2.3 degrees to 32.4 degrees Celsius. North Bihar recorded the biggest decline, while the maximum temperature in the state was 34.5 degrees Celsius in Motihari.
