US-India Tariffs: Three US lawmakers have taken a big step against the heavy tariffs imposed by President Donald Trump on imports from India. Three members of the US House of Representatives introduced a resolution on Friday, the purpose of which is to end Trump’s national emergency declaration.

Under this emergency, up to 50 percent duty was imposed on goods coming from India. Lawmakers called these tariffs illegal and said they were hurting American workers, consumers and India-US relations.

Which MPs presented the proposal

This proposal has been introduced by MPs Deborah Ross, Mark VC and Raja Krishnamurthy. This step has been taken at a time when earlier a bipartisan proposal has been brought in the US Senate related to banning the President’s emergency powers to eliminate similar tariffs imposed on Brazil and increase import duties.

Demand to remove additional duties imposed on India

According to the statement issued, this proposal demands cancellation of the additional 25 percent secondary duty imposed on India, which was imposed on August 27, 2025. This duty was imposed on top of the reciprocal tariffs already in place, increasing the total import duty on many Indian products to 50 percent. This action was taken under the International Emergency Economic Powers Act (IEEPA).

North Carolina’s economy is deeply linked to India

Congresswoman Deborah Ross said, ‘North Carolina’s economy is deeply linked to India through trade, investment and a vibrant Indian American community.’ He said that Indian companies have invested more than one billion dollars in North Carolina, creating thousands of jobs in sectors like life sciences and technology. At the same time, manufacturers from the state export goods worth hundreds of millions of dollars to India every year.

Burden on American consumers too: VC

Congressman Mark VC said that India is an important cultural, economic and strategic partner of America. He alleged that these illegal tariffs are like additional taxes on ordinary American citizens. According to the VC, ‘These fees are burdening the common people of North Texas, who are already struggling with rising inflation.’

‘Tariffs are harmful and counterproductive’

Indian American Congressman Raja Krishnamurthy called these tariffs ‘adverse and harmful’. He said this is disrupting the supply chain, hurting American workers and increasing prices for consumers. Krishnamurthy stressed, ‘Eliminating these tariffs will help strengthen economic and security cooperation between the US and India.’

Democrats’ effort to challenge Trump’s trade policy

This proposal is part of a broader effort by the Democratic Party in Congress, under which Trump’s unilateral trade policies are being challenged and efforts are being made to strengthen America’s relations with India.

Demand to reverse the policy has been made earlier also

Earlier in October, Deborah Ross, Mark VC and Raja Krishnamurthy, along with MP Ro Khanna and 19 other members of Congress, had appealed to the President to withdraw the tariffs imposed on India and improve the deteriorating bilateral relations. The statement issued said, ‘Eliminating the tariffs imposed by Trump on India is part of a broader effort by Congress to reclaim its constitutional rights on trade and to stop the misuse of emergency powers by the President.’

Buying oil from Russia became the reason for tariff

It is noteworthy that in August, President Trump had decided to impose 25 percent tariff on Indian products from August 1. A few days later, it was increased by another 25 percent, taking the total fee to 50 percent. The Trump administration had cited India’s continued purchase of oil from Russia as the reason for this and claimed that this provides financial help to Moscow in the Ukraine war.

Putin India Visit: At present the world seems to be clearly divided into two axes. On one side is Russian President Vladimir Putin and on the other side is American President Donald Trump. America’s tariff policy and the anti-Russian stance of Western countries have increased global tension.

At the same time, India and China are prominent among the countries that openly support Russia. This support Russia is getting from Asia is troubling the western countries. In this background, Putin’s visit to India has become even more important.

Strategic strength of India and Russia in the eyes of China

China’s official newspaper Global Times wrote that the two leaders will discuss important issues like defense cooperation, energy security, trade expansion, technology and partnership in new emerging capabilities. Besides, the geopolitical situation of Euro Asia and Indo Pacific region will also be considered. According to reports, India and Russia are going to sign 10 government agreements and more than 15 business deals. This visit is taking place at a time when the European Commission is coming forward with tough proposals on the use of Russian funds, hence Putin’s visit to India is being considered as a direct message to the Western countries.

‘India-Russia partnership will not come under external pressure’

Professor Li Haidong of China Foreign Affairs University told Global Times that India-Russia relations are extremely strategic and can withstand any external pressure. He says that this partnership shows that neither India nor Russia is going to bow down to Western pressure. According to Lee, this cooperation shows the world that Russia is still an influential power and Western sanctions have not been able to weaken it. Also, India is not going to come under the pressure of America to buy oil and decides its foreign policy only on the basis of national interests.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu was scheduled to visit India in December. However, due to some reason this journey has been postponed for the time being. Israeli PM Office informed that talks are going on on new dates for Netanyahu’s visit to India.

PM Netanyahu’s visit has been postponed for the third time this year. Meanwhile, Israeli media and others claimed that this decision was taken due to security reasons. However, Israeli officials put an end to all these speculations. On behalf of the officials, it has been said that the Israeli Prime Minister has full confidence in the security of India under the leadership of PM Narendra Modi. His team is already discussing a new date for the India tour.

Netanyahu visited India in 2018

Let us tell you that before this the Israeli PM had visited India in 2018. However, relations between India and Israel have not always been as close as they were under the leadership of the Modi government. It is not that there was no partnership between the two countries. Partnership between the two countries in the defense sector has been going on for a long time.

How old are the relations between the two countries?

On May 14, 1948, a proposal was made in the United Nations to make Israel an independent country. Initially, the then Prime Minister of India Jawaharlal Nehru was not in favor of it, but within two years in 1950, he recognized Israel as an independent nation. Nevertheless, diplomatic relations were established between the two countries in 1992.

India supported Palestine. This is why it took so long to recognize Israel. However, the friendship between India and Israel in the field of defense is very old. Israel not only provided mortars and anti-mortar devices in the India-China war of 1962, but also provided military help to India in the Kargil war.

Morarji Desai government played an important role

Still, there was a deep gap between the two countries, to fill which Morarji Desai’s government took steps in 1977. The result was that the then Defense Minister of Israel secretly visited India. After this, in 1985, the then PM Rajiv Gandhi and Simon Peres met at UNGA.

In 1992, political relations were again established between the two countries under the leadership of the then PM Narasimha Rao. In 2000, the then Home Minister Lal Krishna Advani made the first high-level official visit to Israel from India. After this, for the first time in 2003, the then Foreign Minister of India Jaswant Singh reached Israel. In 2003 itself, the then Israeli PM Ariel Sharon visited India.

Narendra Modi went to Israel for the first time as PM, relations strengthened

Former President of India Pranab Mukherjee visited Israel in 2015. Till this time no Prime Minister of India had visited Israel. For the first time, Narendra Modi visited Israel as the Prime Minister of India. In 2017, the Prime Minister of India visited Israel for the first time after recognizing it as an independent country in 1950. Under the leadership of PM Modi, relations between the two countries have strengthened significantly.

Israel is India’s important partner in these areas

India and Israel are important partners in the fields of defence, agriculture, technology and energy. From 2020 to 2024, there have been many major partnerships in the defense sector between the two countries. Both the countries are also connected culturally. This is because Jews arrived in India about two thousand years ago. In the present times, trust between India and Israel has deepened further. India still supports Palestine, but on the other hand, stands firmly in Israel’s fight against terrorism. Israel has also been supporting India against terrorism.

Sco summit: Pakistan Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif, who arrived in China to attend the Shanghai summit, held bilateral talks with Russian President Vladimir Putin. During this, Shahbaz said in a meeting with Putin that Pakistan is keen to form an associate relationship with Russia. During this time, Shahbaz has also given a statement about India-Russia relations.

Shahbaz Sharif made it clear that he respects the relations between India and Russia. He said, ‘I know and would like to say that I respect your relationship with India and it is completely fine, but we also want to have a strong relationship, which will be helpful and complementary for the field.’

Shahbaz also met Jinping

Shahbaz Sharif also met Chinese President Xi Jinping. During this time, both sides emphasized the need to strengthen China Pakistan relations. Xi said that China is ready to create an advanced version of the Economic Corridor (CPEC) and the Free Trade Agreement (CPFTA) with Pakistan. He urged Pakistan to ensure the safety of Chinese employees, projects and institutions.

Shahbaz Sharif appreciated the Global Governance Initiative (GGI) introduced by Xi Jinping at the SCO summit and described it as important for global peace, development and stability. He assured that Pakistan would fully support this initiative and will contribute actively in implementing it.

PM Modi gave a message of global solidarity against terrorism

Prime Minister Narendra Modi gave a message of global solidarity against terrorism. He said, ‘Security, peace and stability are the foundation of the development of any country, but terrorism, separatism and extremism are big challenges in this path. Terrorism is not only a threat to the security of a country, but it is a shared challenge for humanity. Therefore, India emphasized solidarity against terrorism.

Modi said that India took the initiative of joint information campaign against Al Qaeda and its associated terrorist organizations and raised his voice against terror funding. He also thanked Shahbaz Sharif for support.

Despite the long -standing border disputes and political tensions between India and China, the two countries are making new efforts to carry forward their relations. Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi said during a visit to New Delhi that both countries should establish the right strategic partnership and should be considered as partners. This statement clarified that both Beijing and New Delhi are keen to stabilize bilateral relations and find new avenues of cooperation. Wang Yi told Dr. Jaishankar about the American tariff that the world is going towards rapid change. Referring to America, he said that one-sided is facing bullying. Apart from this, the world is facing free trade business and international challenges.

History is witness that India and China have seen difficult times. The clash of the Galwan Valley of June 2020 had brought relationships to the lowest level in decades, but in the present time the leadership ability of the two countries focus on the fact that tension is reduced and found opportunities for cooperation at regional and globally.

Importance of border peace and dialogue
Seema Shanti was a major issue in the meeting of Wang Yi and Indian Foreign Minister Subrahmanyam Jaishankar. Jaishankar clearly stated that the basis of any positive motion in India-China relations has the ability to maintain peace and harmony in the border areas. Wang Yi also admitted that dialogue and exchange at all levels are gradually being restored. It is an indication that the two countries now want to look towards the future, rather than only stuck on border disputes. In addition, the border talks between Ajit Doval and Wang Yi have raised hope that long -stuck negotiations can lead to progress.

Business and bilateral cooperation opportunities
During the meeting, the two leaders also discussed business and economic relations. China is one of the largest trading partners in India, but the business balance has long been tilted in favor of Beijing. Jaishankar also interacted on issues like river data sharing, border trade, contact and cultural exchange. Such steps will not only improve business relations but will also strengthen mutual trust. Wang Yi’s statement is also important that India and China can set examples for developing countries. This simply means that both countries can leave their differences behind and play a leading role for the global South.

SCO summit and future direction
Wang Yi’s visit took place a few days before Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to China. Modi will go to Beijing for the first time in seven years to participate in the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) summit. Both China and India are important members of the SCO and this platform gives both countries an opportunity to share their views on regional security, opposition terrorism and economic cooperation. In this context, Wang Yi’s visit and his conversation with Jaishankar is not limited to bilateral relations only, but it is also associated with the collective security and stability of Asia.

India-Bangladesh Relations: The $ 21 million deal was signed between India’s leading shipbuilding company Garden Reach Shipbuilding and Engineers (GRSE) and the Government of Bangladesh in 2023. Under this deal, 800 -ton sea tug boat design and delivery were to be done for Bangladesh Navy. The deal was the first major contract in the credit line of $ 500 million to Bangladesh by India. Its purpose was to promote marine security, joint military exercises and cooperation in the defense sector. This deal has been canceled by the interim government of Bangladesh, which is headed by Mohammad Yunus.

The decision to cancel the deal was taken under the leadership of Mohammad Yunus, the head of the interim government of Bangladesh. There can be many political and strategic reasons behind this. In this, the change in the policy of the interim government after the coup of Sheikh Hasina government can be the main reason. Import ban on Bangladeshi goods from India, including increasing political tension with India, which has damaged business relations. This can also play an important role in cancellation of the deal. After canceling this deal, a political message has also been sent by Bagladesh towards India, which has increased the chances of further sourness in bilateral relations.

Impact on India’s strategy
India has made soft power and defense cooperation its primary weapon to create strategic balance in South Asia in recent years, but this discomfort of Bangladesh offers some clear threats for India, which the following is.

Can become a sign of dissatisfaction in other neighboring countries.

The way for China and Pakistan find a strategic place in Bangladesh may open.

Marine security and monitoring schemes may be affected in the Bay of Bengal.

Current status of India-Bangladesh relations
Consider the current status of Indo-Bangladesh relations, differences between the interim government of Bangladesh and the army are at its peak. Army Chief General Walker Walker-e-Zaman has demanded elections till December 2025. Bangladeshi exporters are suffering heavy losses due to import ban from India. All these things together have created a wall of mistrust in the strategic relations of India-Bangladesh.
