The Ashes series is considered to be the most prestigious and exciting rivalry in Test cricket. This series played between Australia and England is not just a battle for the trophy, but here every run, every wicket and every partnership is recorded in the pages of history. In the long history of the Ashes, some huge partnerships have been formed which not only broke records but also changed the entire course of the match.

Historic pairing of Bradman-Ponsford

In 1934, Sir Don Bradman and Bill Ponsford recorded the biggest partnership in Ashes history at The Oval. Both added 451 runs for the second wicket. This partnership is counted among the greatest partnerships not only of Ashes but also of Test cricket. England’s bowlers looked completely helpless in front of this pair.

Sydney Test 1946: Bradman and Sid Barnes dominate

In the Sydney Test played after the Second World War, Don Bradman and Sid Barnes made a partnership of 405 runs for the fifth wicket. This innings came at a time when Australia needed to calm down. The wisdom and patience of both of them had changed the entire course of the match.

Bradman-Ponsford shine again in Leeds

In the 1934 Ashes series, the pair of Bradman and Ponsford troubled England not once but twice. By making a partnership of 388 runs for the fourth wicket in the Leeds Test, both of them proved that there was no better pair than them in that era.

Amazing work of Leyland and Hutton of England

In 1938, England’s Maurice Leyland and Len Hutton gave a strong reply against Australia by adding 382 runs for the second wicket at The Oval. This partnership is included in England’s biggest Ashes partnerships and is considered an example of classic Test batting.

Gower and Gooch’s memorable partnership

The pairing of David Gower and Graham Gooch was also special in modern Ashes history. During The Oval Test in 1985, both of them scored 351 runs for the second wicket and put England in a strong position. This partnership was one of the defining moments of that series.
