Bimstec summit in bangkok: Prime Minister Narendra Modi along with other BIMSTEC leaders on Friday (April 4) attended the sixth BIMSTEC summit in Thailand’s capital Bangkok and committed to strengthen cooperation in various fields.

Prime Minister Modi shared a post on social media platform X. In this post, the Prime Minister wrote, “At the summit held in Bangkok, Thailand, we confirm our commitment to increase cooperation in various fields with fellow BIMSTEC leaders. PM Modi has bilateral talks with the head of Myanmar’s military rule

Earlier, Prime Minister Modi met Min Aung Having, a senior General of Myanmar’s military rule, during the BIMSTEC summit. The two leaders discussed bilateral relations and India’s support after the disastrous earthquake in Myanmar.

India’s National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) is engaged in rescue and relief work under ‘Operation Brahma’ in Myanmar. There was a huge devastation in Myanmar after the 7.7 magnitude earthquake on March 28. India once again proved that it always stands together in the difficult time of neighboring countries. India gave necessary assistance to the people affected by the earthquake and played the lead role in the relief campaign.

Yunus’s visit to China and India’s concern
Mohammad Yunus’s recent visit to China was a matter of concern for India. He made some comments about the northeastern region of India, which India did not like. The main reason for this is that China is constantly strengthening its hold in South Asia, and India is concerned that Bangladesh does not come under the influence of Beijing completely.

China-Bangladesh signs of growing partnership
China has expressed the intention of investing in Bangladesh’s infrastructure. Bangladesh may also see the possibility of military cooperation with China. It is feared that even for this, there is no aviation of Bangladesh’s possible changes in foreign policy. Jaishankar had told the Parliamentary Committee that Bangladesh’s request is being considered.

The Hindustan Times quoted sources in its report as saying that India refused to hold a bilateral meeting between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chief Advisor of the Interim Government Mohammad Yunus at the BIMSTEC Summit to be held in Bangkok.

In fact, Prime Minister of India Narendra Modi and Chief Advisor of the Interim Government of Bangladesh, Mohammad Yunus are scheduled to attend the BIMSTEC summit to be held on April 2-4 next month. This will be the first time that PM Modi and Yunus will be in front of each other in a multilateral program. But during this summit, there will be no bilateral meeting of the top leaders of both countries.

Bangladesh had requested to hold a meeting between the top leaders of India-Bangladesh at the BIMSTEC summit. This was confirmed by Tauhid Hussain, advisor for foreign affairs in the interim government of Bangladesh.

This meeting is not right according to the current situation of India-Bangladesh

Sources in the Hindustan Times said, “The situation between India and Bangladesh is not correct. In such a situation, a bilateral meeting between the top leaders of the two countries is not correct. However, in this multilateral program, the possibility of meeting or greeting cannot be ruled out if each other is face to face, but no bilateral meeting is expected.”
