Why contraceptive pills cause depression

Earlier, many experts had also told that hormonal contraceptive women are associated with increasing risk of depression, but it was quite high, including teenagers and youth. However, this study has specially focused its attention to a new mother, who may have used birth control pills after delivery. The postpartum period is already challenging, which makes a new beginning in a woman’s life. Many people struggle with stress and anxiety during this period.

What does study say

In this study, more than 610,000 women who became a mother for the first time in Denmark were analyzed. Self-reported data-based results showed that 40% of women used hormonal contraception within a year of childbirth. Among them, the women who used hormonal contraceptive after giving birth were 49% more expected to produce depression.

The most important thing is that time played an important role, women who started taking these pills first in postpartum phase, had a higher risk of depression than women, who later started using them.

Which contraception affects more

The study divided hormonal contraceptives into four parts. Combined oral, non-oral contraception, progestjan just pills and non-oral contraction. The pattern of progestjan-barf tablets was different from the rest, with a low risk at the beginning, but later the risk level gradually increased.
