In an interview given to BBC News Hindi, Supriya told that for about ten years after marriage, her mother felt that Pankaj Kapoor might leave her. Supriya said that her daughter Sana was born in 1993 and son Ruhaan was born in 1997. But even after this his mother kept saying that Pankaj would go away. Supriya never worried much about this and accepted the situation as it was.

His father Anand Sarup Oberoi was in real estate business. But after coming to India, all the property was left there. Money ran out and the family had to face difficult circumstances. Many times the situation was such that they had to spend the day eating only bread and sugar.

Instead of accepting defeat from the situation, his father took a big risk. Hiding his identity, he went to Pakistan and sold his property there and returned to India with the money he got.
