Police has arrested a cyber criminal who tried to cheat BJP MP Damodar Agarwal from Bhilwara, Rajasthan. The accused tried to deceive the MP by pretending to be the Union Home Secretary of the Government of India, but due to the alertness of the MP, this fraud conspiracy failed.

On the evening of March 15, a call was received on MP Damodar Aggarwal’s WhatsApp from an unknown number. The person making the call identified himself as Govind Mohan, Home Secretary of the Government of India and said that Union Home Minister Amit Shah has given him the responsibility of gathering information regarding the possible cabinet expansion in Rajasthan.

This is how the suspicion of fraud arose

On this pretext, the accused asked the MP for the mobile numbers of all the MLAs of Bhilwara district. When he became suspicious during the conversation, MP Damodar Aggarwal immediately contacted the real Union Home Secretary on phone. The Home Secretary clarified that he has not made any such call.

After this the MP suspected cyber fraud and immediately informed the Bhilwara police. On the complaint of the MP, a case was registered at the Kotwali police station of Bhilwara city. A special police team was formed on the instructions of Bhilwara Superintendent of Police Dharmendra Singh.

The accused was arrested from Ghazipur, Delhi.

Police registered a case under sections 204, 319 (2) and 62 of BNS and started technical investigation. On the basis of technical evidence and cyber tracking, the police team raided Sapera Basti in Ghazipur, Delhi and arrested 20-year-old accused Gaurav Nath, father Bahadur Singh Nath late on Sunday night.

Even before, cases of cheating have been registered against the accused.

The police have also seized the mobile phone from him, through which the WhatsApp call was made to the MP. Preliminary investigation has revealed that the accused has been involved in cyber fraud cases before and six cases are already registered against him. According to the police, the accused was in debt and had hatched this conspiracy by obtaining the MP’s mobile number from Google.

What did the police say?

Regarding the incident, Bhilwara Superintendent of Police Dharmendra Singh said that on the complaint of the MP, a case was registered at the Kotwali police station on March 16. In this case, taking action with the help of Cyber ​​Cell, Delhi Police and I4C, the accused has been arrested from Delhi.

The accused was trying to obtain political information through telephone by pretending to be a Home Ministry official and an attempt was also made to lure the MP.

A big network of cyber fraud may be exposed

At present, the police is interrogating the accused and investigation is also being done in relation to his other associates and possible cyber gang. Police believe that this arrest may expose a large network of cyber fraud.
