After the recent meeting of Brahmin MLAs after ‘Thakur Kutumb’ in Uttar Pradesh, the stir regarding caste equations has intensified. Many political experts are seeing this as politics of Thakur versus Brahmin. In which everything from participation in power to the strategy of creating pressure for the participation of one’s caste in the organization is also being seen.

The meeting of Brahmin MLAs cannot be taken lightly for the Bharatiya Janata Party. According to sources, in this meeting the role of Brahmin community, their representation and power within the party was discussed. This seems to emphasize that their voice is being suppressed in the party, due to which insecurity and dissatisfaction is increasing among them.

Stirring intensified after the meeting of Brahmin MLAs

Thakur and Brahmin class in UP has been the core vote bank of BJP since the beginning. It was discussed in the meeting that the voice of Brahmins was becoming weak. However, this issue has not arisen just like that. Yogi government has been accused many times of ignoring Brahmins. Samajwadi Party can also be seen fanning this issue from time to time and has been accusing the government of protecting and saving people of the Chief Minister’s caste (Thakur).

Brahmin vs Thakur’s share in power in UP

According to media reports, the population of Brahmins in UP is about 10-11% while the population of Thakurs is about 6-7%. BJP has a total of 258 MLAs in the UP Assembly. Of these, 42 are Brahmins, 45 are Thakurs, 84 are OBC, 59 are Scheduled Caste, 0 are Muslim and 28 are MLAs from other upper castes. Which includes other castes including Vaishya, Kayastha, Punjabi and Khatri.

Whereas in the Legislative Council, BJP has a total of 79 MLCs, of which 14 are Brahmins, 23 Thakurs, 26 OBCs, 2 Scheduled Castes, 2 Muslims and 12 are from other upper castes. If we look at these figures, according to the caste equation, the number of Brahmins is more than that of Thakurs, but their representation in the Assembly and Legislative Council is less than that of Rajputs.

While BJP has 42 Brahmin MLAs in the Assembly and 45 Thakur MLAs, the number of members in the Legislative Council is 14 and 23 respectively. This year, when the meeting of Thakur MLAs was held during the monsoon session, it was seen as a show of solidarity towards the Chief Minister, but this time on the meeting of Brahmin MLAs, the party has given them advice.

Looking at all these things, it is being speculated that dissatisfaction is emerging regarding caste balance within BJP. It has now become necessary for the party to balance its two biggest core vote banks, otherwise it may have to suffer the consequences in the upcoming elections.

Plan regarding UP assembly elections

Pankaj Chaudhary said that BJP works for all the society. People of all castes have become state presidents in BJP. During this, he also talked about the upcoming UP Assembly elections and said that we will give better results in UP in 2027. There is no challenge for us.

Our target is 2027 elections. We have the work of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the law and order of CM Yogi Adityanath, which we will tell the people in the upcoming elections. The opposition has no issue, sometimes they talk about SIR and sometimes about EVMs. There has already been a discussion in the House regarding SIR.

‘There is no challenge before BJP in UP’

Pankaj Chaudhary said that we try to keep everyone connected in the party. There is no challenge before us in 2027. BJP never takes any step keeping elections in mind. Our party and workers start further preparations after the end of every election.

He said that while fulfilling our responsibility, we will try to get better results than the 2017 assembly elections in UP. I have been appointed only yesterday (Sunday). I will hold a meeting with the national leadership and will also meet all the state teams.

After discussing with everyone, our aim is to decide how we can win the upcoming assembly elections and further strengthen our organization. This will be my primary work.
