British Prime Minister Keir Starmer announced on Friday (April 17) that more than a dozen countries are ready to join the defense mission to restore freedom of navigation in the Strait of Hormuz. France and Britain chaired a meeting of 49 countries in Paris, in which preparations for a multinational security mission were discussed.

Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Ismail Baghai said that shipping through the Strait of Hormuz would be possible only through waterways designated by Iran. The IRGC has directed that all ships must obtain their permission to pass. Civilian ships will be allowed to pass through Iranian routes, but the entry of military ships has been completely banned.

Iran softened a bit after ceasefire in Lebanon

Meanwhile, Iran has warned that if the US maritime blockade on its ports continues, it will also take retaliatory action. According to the Foreign Ministry, if targeting of Iran’s economic interests and ports is not stopped, then they will adopt a tough stance in their diplomacy. However, after the ceasefire in Lebanon, Iran has shown signs of showing some leniency.

Iranian Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf warned Donald Trump that Tehran will close the Strait of Hormuz if the US continues the naval blockade. This warning has come shortly after the US President announced that the blockade will be fully implemented.

Ghalibaf said in a post that the movement from Hormuz will take place only on the basis of scheduled route and Iranian permission. He said, ‘The Strait of Hormuz will not remain open if the blockade continues.’

What did Abbas Araghchi say?

This announcement came hours after Iran declared Hormuz open to commercial ships for the remaining period of the ceasefire. Iran’s Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi said, “Due to the ceasefire in Lebanon, the movement of all commercial vessels through this waterway is declared completely open for the remaining period of the ceasefire.”

Hormuz blockade will remain intact: Trump

In response, Trump made it clear that the naval blockade of the Strait of Hormuz will remain in place until the agreement with Iran is completed. However, he claimed that this process will be completed very soon as the bottlenecks have already been discussed. Trump warned that if an agreement is not reached, America may start dropping bombs again. He said, ‘I may not take it further, but the blockade of Iranian ports will continue. Unfortunately, we will have to start bombing again.

Iranian speaker gave this answer

On this, the Iranian speaker said bluntly, ‘He (Trump) did not win the war with these lies and he will not be able to reach anywhere in the talks. The strait will be open or closed and the rules governing it will be decided by ground reality, not social media. Ghalibaf alleged that Trump made 7 claims in an hour, all of which were false. However, he did not say what exactly the claims were.
