Bank of Baroda Data Leak: A cyber incident related to the government bank, Bank of Baroda has come to light. It is being claimed that customer data and some internal documents have been leaked on the dark web. The bank has started forensic investigation in this matter by confirming the cyber incident.

What did the bank say?
According to the bank, an employee’s email account was compromised due to which some data was accessed without permission. The bank says that the incident was detected in time and necessary steps were taken immediately. The bank has clarified that its core banking system is completely secure and there has been no breach in it.

The bank also said that a detailed forensic investigation of the case is being conducted and work is being done with the concerned agencies as per the rules. Also, commitment has been reiterated to protect the information of customers and partners.

What does the researcher claim?
Cyber ​​researcher Srikant L claims that the leaked data includes customer information, identity documents, loan related documents and internal audit records of the bank. According to him, this data was first seen on dark web monitoring website ransomware.live on July 25.

Which documents are claimed to be leaked?
According to the researcher, the sample documents revealed include account opening forms, customer names, photographs, Aadhaar numbers, branch audit reports, loan appraisal documents, internal correspondence and records related to vigilance investigation. However, these claims have not been independently confirmed.

How big is the data leak?
Different claims are being made regarding the size of the data leak. On the website where this data is shown, it is said to be more than 700 GB. In some Indian media reports, its size has been stated to be around 1TB. At present it is not clear how many customers have been affected by this incident.

Who did the cyber attack?
Till now no cyber criminal group has taken responsibility for this incident. However, cyber researchers estimate that a new hacking group named TripleX may be behind this.

Response of RBI and CERT-In
There is currently no official response from the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) and CERT-In on this matter. According to the report, the bank is conducting a forensic audit. Till now, Bank of Baroda has not informed the stock market separately about any data breach.

There is a difference in the claims of the bank and the cyber researcher in this matter. The bank says that the matter is limited to only one employee’s email account and the core banking system is completely secure. Experts claim that a large amount of customer data and internal documents of the bank have been leaked. In such a situation, the actual size and impact of this data leak will be clear only after the completion of the forensic investigation and confirmation from the concerned agencies.
