Manipuri film ‘Boong’, which won the BAFTA Award, has recently made another record in its name. After its re-release in theaters on March 6, the film has crossed the Rs 1 crore mark. With this, it has become the highest grossing Manipuri film till date. What is the story of the film?
‘Boong’ is the story of a small boy from Manipur whose character is played by Gugun Kipgen. This boy who wants to reunite his broken family. Boong is raised by his single mother Mandakini (Bala Hijam Ningthoujam). Along with his best friend, he sets out on an emotional journey to find his missing father. This film touches on very important issues like hope, strength to fight difficulties and the deep relationship between mother and son.

The 79th British Academy Film Awards took place on 22 February 2026 at the Royal Festival Hall in London. One Battle After Another became the biggest winner at the Tisch Academy Film Awards by winning six awards including Best Film, Best Director and Best Adapted Screenplay. Sinners and Frankenstein both received three awards each, while Hamnet received the award for Outstanding British Film. This Indian film won at BAFTA Awards 2026
An Indian film also won the BAFTA Awards 2026. In fact, the first feature film in Manipuri language ‘Boong’ won the Best Children and Family Film award, which was an important moment for Indian cinema on the global stage. Boong was the only Indian nominee in this ceremony and now it has become the first Indian film to win in this category. Boong is directed by Lakshmipriya Devi and produced by Farhan Akhtar, along with Vikesh Bhutani, Alan McAlex, Ritesh Sidhwani and Shujaat Saudagar. Makers were present to receive the award at the event held at London’s Royal Festival Hall, which included Farhan Akhtar, Ritesh Sidhwani, Lakshmipriya Devi and Alan McAlex.
