The peace talks between Afghanistan and Pakistan in Türkiye ended without any result. It is being told that the attitude of the Pakistani delegation during the talks was so strange and uncooperative that even the representatives of mediators Qatar and Türkiye present there became surprised and angry.

Pakistan accused of bad behavior
The source said that the Pakistani representatives were not familiar with the process of negotiations, they repeatedly raised illogical issues and used rude language on several occasions. According to the source, ‘All the agenda points of the talks were completed, but when an issue was being discussed, the Pakistani side spoiled the atmosphere of the meeting by misbehaving.’

It is being told that the head of the Pakistani team asked the Afghan side to control all those groups which carry out attacks in Pakistan. Even the mediators were surprised to hear this demand. He asked how can any country ask another country to control its own rebel groups?

Pakistan accused of threatening Afghanistan
During the talks, the Pakistani side also said that if TTP (Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan) attacks continue in Pakistan, they will take revenge from Afghanistan. To this the Afghan team replied that it is the responsibility of the Pakistani Army and security agencies to maintain security in Pakistan, while the Afghan government can only ensure that its territory is not used for attacks on Pakistan.

Afghanistan also placed a condition
Afghan representatives said, we will not allow attacks on Pakistan from our soil, but in return Pakistan will have to guarantee that it will not violate our airspace and will not allow American drones to enter Afghanistan from its land or airspace. Initially the Pakistani representatives agreed to this, but later changed their stance after receiving a phone call.

Pakistan’s accusation on Taliban
According to Pakistani security sources, the Afghan Taliban did not show any concrete commitment to control or stop the Pakistani Taliban (TTP). Pakistan says that TTP is a separate militant organization, which carries out attacks against Pakistan and is operating without any hindrance from the soil of Afghanistan. Due to lack of consensus on this issue, the talks ended without any result.

held each other responsible
The talks between Afghanistan and Pakistan were aimed at restoring lasting peace after recent deadly border clashes that left dozens dead. This is considered to be the most serious violence after the Taliban came to power in Kabul in 2021. The two countries had agreed to a ceasefire agreement in Doha on October 19, but no common solution could be found in the second round of talks held in Istanbul under the mediation of Turkey and Qatar. Both sides blamed each other for the failure of the talks.

The ongoing border dispute between Pakistan and Afghanistan has badly affected the economy of both the countries. Since the closure of the border from October 11, not only has business come to a complete standstill, but the prices of everyday items have started skyrocketing. Khan Jan Alokozay, head of the Pak-Afghan Chamber of Commerce in Kabul, said that since the conflict started, both the countries are suffering a loss of about 1 million dollars every day.

Among the food items in Pakistan, the prices of tomatoes and apples have been most affected. Earlier tomatoes were available at Rs 120 per kg, now they are being sold at Rs 600 per kg. There has also been a huge jump in the prices of apples and grapes, because a large part of them is imported from Afghanistan. On the matter, Khan Jan Alokojay said that about 500 containers of vegetables used to come to us every day for export, which has now stopped due to border closure.

5,000 containers stuck on the border
About 5,000 containers are stuck on both sides of the Torkham border of Pakistan. These include things like fruits, vegetables, minerals, medicines, wheat, rice, sugar, meat and dairy products. Local officials said that now it has become very difficult to get things like tomatoes, apples and grapes in the market.

Situation worsened after skirmishes and air strikes
The border skirmishes started when Pakistan demanded action against terrorists carrying out cross-border attacks from Afghanistan. Pakistan claims that these terrorists are operating from Afghan soil, which Kabul has strongly denied. This conflict is considered to be the worst border conflict since the Taliban capture Kabul in 2021.

Ceasefire mediated by Qatar and Turkey
Late last week, both countries agreed to a ceasefire mediated by Qatar and Turkey, but trade is still at a standstill. The next round of talks will be held in Istanbul on Friday (October 25), where border opening and resumption of trade will be discussed.

Clash between Pakistan and Afghanistan still continues
Khost province governor’s spokesman Mustaghfar Gurbaz told TOLOnews that at around 7 pm on Tuesday evening (October 14), Afghan forces once again attacked Pakistani troops in the Palochi area of Jazi Maidan district near the Durand Line. He told that initially Pakistani soldiers had tried to attack, but their attempt failed and swift retaliatory action was taken from the Afghan side. He also told that the clash between the two sides is still going on.

Afghan Taliban attacked Pak post
The Afghan Taliban regime has released a video on state TV in which their fighters are seen attacking a Pakistani military post near the Durand Line. In the video, Taliban fighters are seen capturing the post and capturing many Pakistani soldiers during the clash.
Fazlur Rehman offered mediation
Meanwhile, Pakistan’s Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam (JUI-F) chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman has given a statement that he is ready to mediate for peace talks between Pakistan and Afghanistan, but for this it is necessary to have a ceasefire first. He said that any talks amid the sound of gunfire would remain inconclusive. Fazlur Rehman stressed that both the countries are very important for each other, but if continuous firing continues on the border, the people of both the countries will have to bear the biggest loss.

Heavy tension was seen between Afghanistan and Pakistan on Saturday (11 October). Many soldiers died in the airstrike between the two countries. After some time, ceasefire was implemented between the two countries, but Pakistan again violated the ceasefire after about 12 hours on Sunday (12 October). According to Afghan media, Pakistani Army conducted drone strike at Spin Boldak Border, Kandahar. Afghan officials have called this attack a violation of border sovereignty.

According to Afghan media reports, one Afghan civilian was killed and five people were injured in a drone strike by Pakistani Army at Spin Boldak Border, Kandahar. Local people are in fear and panic. However, complete confirmation and detailed information about the incident is yet to come.

What did the spokesperson of Afghanistan’s Defense Ministry say?

Afghanistan’s Defense Ministry spokesperson said that after last night’s clashes, both sides had tried to stop the conflict for some time, but Pakistan did not follow it. He warned that if Pakistan violates the Afghan border again, the Afghan security forces are fully prepared to give a strong response.

Zabiullah Mujahid told in a press conference in Kabul that 58 Pakistani soldiers were killed and 30 were injured in the clash between Afghan security forces and Pakistani army last night (October 11). According to Afghan officials, about 20 of their members were also martyred or injured. Afghan forces also captured many weapons in this operation.

Mujahid seriously accused the Pakistani army and government of training ISKP (Islamic State-Khorasan Province) terrorists and giving them shelter in their country. He said that these terrorists are sent to Afghanistan after receiving training directly from the airports of Karachi and Islamabad. He also claimed that the terrorist attacks in Tehran and Moscow were also planned from these centers in Pakistan.

Mujahid has appealed to Pakistan that the key ISKP leaders and members who are hiding there should either be handed over to the Afghan authorities or deported from Pakistani soil. He warned that if this is not done, it could lead to serious and unexpected consequences. The Defense Ministry has also clearly said that if any party violates Afghanistan’s border again, the Afghan Armed Forces will protect the border with full preparation and will give a strong response.
