What is a ball-out rule?

The rule of ball out has been used very rarely in cricket. It was used as a tie-breaker. Suppose the score of two teams is left on par, then usually five bowlers from each team will bowl (there will be no batsman in front), but the wicketkeeper will be present behind the stumps. All five bowlers of both the teams will try to hit the stumps in one attempt, the team whose more bowlers will hit the stumps, that team will be declared the winner.

Ball-out was held in India-Pakistan World Cup match

The rule of ball-out is also related to the 2007 T20 World Cup historic match in which India defeated Pakistan. It is a matter of 14 September 2007 when India and Pakistan were matching in the group match of T20 World Cup. Both teams were able to score 141 runs in the scheduled 20 overs, so the ball-out rule was implemented to get the result.

For India, Virender Sehwag, Harbhajan Singh and Robin Uthappa, the three, bowled the stumps while bowling in their respective attempts. While Pakistan’s Yasir Arafat, Omar Gul and Shahid Afridi could not hit the stumps. In this way, India won 3–0 in the ball-out.
