India exported 234,000 tonnes of rice to the US in FY24, worth ₹2,849 crore. The Washington Post report claimed that Indian officials had prepared a proposal in May 2025 under which a plan was being made to transfer approximately $3.9 billion of investment of government insurance company LIC to Adani Group companies. However, LIC has strongly refuted this report on October 25 calling it completely false and misleading. LIC said in its statement that this news seems to have been published with the aim of influencing their decision making process and damaging their reputation. The company clarified that any investment decisions are taken only after board-approved policies and detailed due diligence, and any external pressure has no role in it. The report also said that LIC had invested $570 million in Adani Ports & SEZ in May 2025, while international surveillance on Adani Group was going on at that time. But LIC pointed out that its portfolio is diversified and its exposure to Adani Group is only less than 2% of the total loans. The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has shocked everyone by executing the country’s largest property deal. RBI has purchased 4.61 acres of land from Mumbai Metro Rail Corporation Limited (MMRCL) for Rs 3,472 crore at the premium location Nariman Point in Mumbai. The government has made a major change in the pension system for central employees and provided the option of switch to NPS (National Pension System) from UPS (Non-Fraced Old Pension Scheme). Now the employees who are in the UPS can transform the NPS until one year before retirement or for three months before taking a voluntary retirement (VRS). However, after coming to NPS from UPS, there will be no guaranteed pension facility, but the employees will get a big benefit – the government will add an additional 4% contribution to their NPS account. After this, the pension will be given completely according to the NPS rules. The benefit of this new facility will be available only to those employees on which no departmental inquiry is going on and which have not been terminated. If the option of switch is not chosen till the stipulated timeframe, then the employees will remain in the UPS by default. This step of the government is a big effort to make the pension process transparent, flexible and more beneficial for employees.
