Pakistan court has extended the interim bail of Imran Khan and Bushra Bibi. The court has extended the interim bail till January 27. The court on Tuesday heard the May 9 violence case of PTI founder Imran Khan and his wife Bushra Bibi. During this, orders were given to increase the interim bail in other cases including violence. Also, Imran has been instructed to participate in the next hearing personally through visual hearing.

Instructions to Imran to appear in the hearing on January 27

According to Pakistani newspaper Dawn, this order has been given by the bench of Additional District and Sessions Judge Muhammad Afzal Majoka. He heard the bail petitions before the arrest. Advocate Shamsa Kayani appeared on behalf of Imran Khan and Bushra Bibi. Due to the absence of the former Prime Minister, the debate on the petitions was not taken forward. The court has extended the interim bail and fixed the hearing date as January 27. Besides, the court has also ordered to ensure the presence of Imran Khan in the next hearing.

Apart from cases related to the violence on May 9, several other cases including attempt to murder, alleged submission of fake receipts have been registered against Imran Khan. Apart from this, a separate case has been registered against Bushra Bibi for submitting fake receipts related to Toshakhana gifts. In a related development, the next hearing in the case of the already filed arrest petition has been fixed for January 27.

Lawyer not given permission to meet Imran

PTI lawyer Khalid Yousuf Chaudhary has not been allowed to meet Imran Khan. The lawyer in the court had said that he could get her signature on the power of attorney documents required to file an appeal against the recent conviction in the Toshakhana case.

Here, citing rights, the party alleged that jail officials are preventing Imran Khan and Bushra Bibi from meeting their lawyer in Adiala jail to sign the power of attorney. The party has said that making the PTI founder’s lawyer wait for hours, closing the legal desk and not providing the facility to execute the power of attorney was a deliberate attempt to prevent access to justice.

The party said- signing and filing appeal is a legal right

PTI said that under Punjab Prison Rules 1978, 178 and 179, every prisoner has the legal right to meet his lawyer, sign legal documents and file appeals. Jail authorities have no right to obstruct this process. The party further alleged that denial of the right of appeal is a violation of Articles 10-A, 4, 9 and 25 of the Constitution.

Serious allegations against Imran Khan about Toshkhana case

Imran Khan is accused of illegally buying and selling gifts kept in a government department named Toshkhana. In Toshkhana, gifts are given to Prime Ministers, Presidents, Ministers, MPs and other government officials. It is only about this that he was sentenced to 3 years in jail in August 2023 to sell gifts worth more than 14 crore Pakistani rupees ($ 5 lakh).

The hearing of the Toshkhana case against Khan and his wife Bushra Bibi was postponed on Friday and now the next hearing will be held on 8 September.

Imran Khan said, “I am willing to spend my whole life in jail, but there is no question of bending to atrocities and harassment. My message for the people of Pakistan is the same, in no case, do not bow down to this repressive system.” He said that the time of talks has passed, now it is a time of nationwide opposition.

The PTI chief further said that the convicted killers and terrorists are also kept in better circumstances and I am constantly being harassed, but whatever they do, I have never bowed down to the harassment nor will I ever bow down.
