Women’s Credit Growth in India: Women are also contributing vigorously towards taking the Indian economy forward. Nowadays, women are moving forward in every field beyond the confines of their homes. Even in the world of business they are achieving new heights.

The NITI Aayog report is also saying something similar. According to a report by NITI Aayog, women borrowers in India have a total credit portfolio of Rs 76 lakh crore. This is 26 percent of the total system credit by 2025 and has increased by 4.8 times since 2017.

Women’s participation in business is increasing

In the report titled ‘From Borrowers to Builders: Women and India’s Evolving Credit Market’, the Commission said that between December 2017 and December 2025, the number of active women borrowers taking credit has increased by 9 percent CAGR, while credit penetration among them has increased from 19 percent to 36 percent.

It has been told in this report that the main reason for this growth is commercial credit – between 2022 and 2025, a CAGR of 31 percent was recorded in loans given to women business borrowers, while it was 17 percent in total commercial credit.

Women are at the forefront in these fields

The report further states that women’s access to credit is continuously increasing. Along with southern and western states, women are also taking loans in large numbers in northern states like Bihar and Uttar Pradesh.

“Personal and gold loans remain the most used products, while housing loans are also seeing strong growth, indicating increasing asset ownership among women,” the report said.

Apart from this, the number of women taking personal loans has also increased by more than 25 percent. The number of women taking education loans has also increased rapidly.

Women ahead in loan repayment

According to the report of NITI Aayog itself, the credit score (CIBIL) of women is better than that of men. Also, the loan default (NPA) rate among women is very low, due to which banks consider them low-risk borrowers.
