Dhanteras 2025: Like every time, this year on the occasion of Dhanteras, people did a lot of shopping. According to initial estimates by the Confederation of All India Traders (CAIT), people across the country made purchases worth about Rs 1 lakh crore on this Dhanteras. Gold and silver alone were sold worth more than Rs 60,000 crore. The festival of Dhanteras is very special for Indians and shopping on this day is considered auspicious.

Usually, on the day of Dhanteras, people buy gold, silver, utensils, electronic goods, idols of Goddess Lakshmi and Lord Ganesha, earthen lamps and other worship materials. CAIT Secretary General Praveen Khandelwal said, “The total business including gold, silver and other auspicious items across the country on Dhanteras is estimated to cross Rs 1 lakh crore.” Shopping on Dhanteras is considered a symbol of happiness and prosperity, hence people buy things according to their budget. Many buyers also buy electronic gadgets like mobile phones, laptops and tablets.

Speaking to news agency ANI, CAIT said, “A huge rush was seen in the bullion market in the last two days. According to initial estimates, the turnover of gold and silver alone was more than Rs 60,000 crore, while sales of more than Rs 10,000 crore were recorded in Delhi’s bullion markets, which is 25 times more than last year.

Investment in gold and silver continues

There is a continuous rise in gold prices in the country. Gold has increased from about Rs 80,000 per 10 grams last year to more than Rs 1,30,000 this year, which shows an increase of about 60 percent. Meanwhile, the price of silver has also increased from Rs 98,000 per kg to Rs 1,80,000 in 2024, which is 55 percent more. Despite this, people are not holding back from purchasing them.

Heavy shopping in other categories also

CAIT said that apart from gold and silver, sales were also good in other categories, in which Rs 15,000 crore was spent on kitchenware, Rs 10,000 crore on electronics, Rs 3,000 crore on decorative items, lamps and puja items and Rs 12,000 crore was spent on dry fruits, sweets, fruits, clothes, vehicles and other things.

CAIT said, the credit for purchases on such a large scale this year goes to the reforms in GST and Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s ‘Vocal for Local’ campaign. This promoted locally manufactured products, which benefited small businessmen and artisans. CAIT also said that on this day people did a lot of shopping in online mode along with traditional markets.

Diwali 2025 Date on October: There is confusion across the country regarding the date of Diwali this year. There is talk of celebrating Diwali somewhere on 20th October and somewhere on 21st October. To resolve this confusion, the Confederation of All India Traders (CAIT) has advised traders across the country to celebrate Diwali on 20 October 2025 only.

National General Secretary of CAT and MP from Chandni Chowk Praveen Khandelwal said that it is appropriate to celebrate a big festival like Diwali according to the scriptures and astrological calculations. He told that to remove the confusion created among the traders across the country, CAT consulted the famous astrologer of Ujjain, Acharya Durgesh Tare.

Confusion on Diwali date

Acharya Durgesh Tare told that according to the scriptures, Diwali should be celebrated on Pradosh Vyapini Tithi of Amavasya. This year this date is falling on 20 October 2025, hence worshiping Lakshmi-Ganesh on the same day will be auspicious and as per the scriptures. He clarified that the effect of Amavasya on October 21 will last only for a few moments, hence it would not be appropriate to celebrate Diwali on that day.

He also said that since the night of 20th October is completely in Amavasya and Pradosh period, it is the most suitable date. According to him – “The Amavasya which prevails in both Pradosh and midnight is the main one.”

According to Acharya Tare, Dhanteras and Dhanvantari Jayanti – 18 October 2025, Narak Chaturdashi – 19 October 2025, Diwali – 20 October 2025, Govardhan Puja – 22 October 2025, Bhai Dooj – 23 October 2025.

CAT’s advice to celebrate 20th October

CAT said that Diwali is the most important festival of India not only from religious but also from business point of view. On this day, businessmen across the country start the new accounting year and pray for prosperity by worshiping Goddess Lakshmi-Ganesh. Therefore, determining the correct date of the festival is very important. Thus, according to the calculations of religious scriptures and astrologers, this year Diwali will be celebrated only on 20 October 2025 (Sunday).

Cait seeks marriage industry status: The All India Business Confederation i.e. CAT has urged the central government to give industry status to the marriage sector. Akshaya Tritiya is estimated to have around 21,000 marriages in the national capital Delhi, and the related expenses in this city alone are likely to exceed Rs 5,000 crore.

Kat’s argument is that weddings promote important trade in various fields including apparel, jewelery, food and food, decoration, photography, transport, hotel booking, program management and flowers services. CAIT National General Secretary and Member of Parliament, Praveen Khandelwal, estimates that India’s marriage industry is more than Rs 10 lakh crore.

Khandelwal further states that structured policy structure, monitoring and rules are required to organize the region and reduce cash transactions. Giving industry status and implementing regulatory inspection can lead to more transparency and strength in the Indian economy.

CAIT is urging the central government to formally recognize the marriage sector, collect inputs from stakeholders and form a high-level panel to form a comprehensive policy. The merchant association has also demanded this from the government, along with GST rates and criteria in the marriage service industry, steps should be made for the safety of small vendors and workers working in this area. CAIT believes that by organizing the marriage sector, organizing and formal form will be “sufficient and permanent contribution to the national economy”.

Significantly, there are thousands of marriages in the country every year and people spend crores of rupees on this occasion. In such a situation, business organizations are seeing a lot of potential in this, which is why the government is demanding to take this step.

Pahalgam terror attack: In view of the terrorist attack in Pahalgam in Jammu and Kashmir, Indian traders are no longer ready to do business with Pakistan. According to a report by Financial Express, the Confederation of All India Traders (CAIT), an organization of traders, said that due to the terrorist attack in Pahalgam, Kashmir on April 22, the traders of the country have decided to completely stop any kind of trade with Pakistan.

Business community opposed terrorist attack

This decision was taken by business leaders at an event organized by CAIT in Bhubaneswar. CAT general secretary Praveen Khandelwal said, “In protest against the brutal killing of innocent tourists in Pahalgam, the business community has decided to immediately stop all kinds of imports and exports with Pakistan.” The business relations between India and Pakistan have deteriorated seriously after the terrorist attack in Pulwama in 2019. There has also been a tremendous decline in the trade of both countries. According to CAIT, the amount of trade in 2024 has fallen to about $ 1.2 billion in 2024 due to peak of about $ 3 billion in 2018.

Ready to lose losses

Between April 2024 and January 2025, India exported goods worth about $ 500 million to Pakistan, which mainly included pharmaceuticals, chemicals, sugar and auto parts. While imports were only $ 0.42 million. Khandelwal said that now traders have resolved to completely eliminate this business. The organization said that the business community of India is ready to bear any economic loss or cost to maintain the unity, integrity and security of the nation.

India banned Pakistani YouTube channel

After the terrorist attack in Pahalgam, India is continuously retaliating. India has also allegedly banned 16 Pakistani YouTube channels. These include Don News, Sama TV, Arya News, Geo News, Bol News, Pati, The Pakistan Reference, GNN, Irshad Bhatti, Ujir Cricket, Omar Cheema, Assam Shiraji, Munib Fakur, Suno News HD, Raji Nama and Sama Sports. Their total subscribers are about 63 million.
