Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney has made a big announcement on Friday (August 22, 2025) to remove the counter tariff on American goods. The announcement by Canada has been taken by Washington under the recent decision taken exempting all the products under the US-Maxico-Canada Agreement (USMCA).

At the same time, Canada’s Prime Minister Mark Carney told reporters a day after a phone interaction with US President Donald Trump that Canada would end all his counter -tariffs on American goods from September 1 under the USMCA agreement. He said that this decision has been taken by Canada at a time when both countries (America and Canada) are discussing a comprehensive trade deal.

Canada did the best trade deal with America- Mark Carney

Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney said, “Canada has done the best trade deal with the US at this time and this deal is not only different from all the trading agreements made in the past, but it is also better than the US agreement with any other country in the world.”

He said, “Canada and America have re-implemented the FTA/Free Trade Agreement for the exchange of their goods in large quantities. We are working on the full emphasis to solve all the issues with America. In such a situation, we will remove all the counter-tariffs on Canada Steel, Aluminum and Automobiles.”

Prime Minister Mark Carney has termed the US-Maxico-Canada (USMCA) between Canada and the US a unique advantage for his country, however, the agreement will be reviewed in 2026 next year. He said that America is putting huge tariffs on all those countries to reach the markets of other countries of the world.
