The Supreme Court on Monday (29 December 2025) stayed the order of the Delhi High Court, in which the life sentence of Kuldeep Singh Sengar in the 2017 Unnao rape case was suspended. The bench of CJI Surya Kant, Justice JK Maheshwari and Justice Augustine George Masih issued a notice to Sengar and sought his reply on the CBI petition in which the High Court order has been challenged. Meanwhile, the victim’s lawyer Mahmood Pracha has raised questions on the investigating agency.

CBI is not cooperating: Mahmood Pracha

Mahmood Pracha said that CBI is still not cooperating. Speaking to news agency ANI, the victim’s lawyer said, ‘We felt that the CBI would hide things from us and they did so. They (CBI) withheld the copy till last night. This has been a strategy not only in this case, but also in the Hathras case.

Kuldeep Sengar got death sentence: Victim

The victim’s family has expressed happiness over the stay order of the Supreme Court. The victim said, ‘I am very happy with the court’s decision. I got justice from the Supreme Court and am confident that I will continue to get it in future too. I will continue to fight this battle and ensure that he gets death sentence, only then our family will get true justice. I am grateful to all those who stood by me and helped me get justice. My father’s soul will rest in peace only when Kuldeep Singh Sengar is hanged.

Law should work without pressure: Kuldeep Sengar’s sister

Meanwhile, Kuldeep Sengar’s younger daughter Ishita Sengar wrote a post on X that her family has been quietly waiting for justice for the last eight years and has maintained its faith in the law and institutions. She wrote that her identity has been limited to just the daughter of a BJP MLA and she has had to face constant hatred, abuse and threats on social media. He said, ‘My family neither wants any concession nor sympathy, but only wants the law to work without any pressure or fear and the evidence to be investigated impartially.’

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has registered a case against two big companies of Reliance ADA Group, Reliance Commercial Finance Limited (RCFL) and Reliance Home Finance Limited (RHFL) in two separate cases of bank fraud. In both the cases, it is alleged that the companies cheated many banks, due to which the banks suffered losses worth crores of rupees.

RCFL accused of fraud of Rs 57.47 crore

The first case in this is of bank fraud of Rs 57.47 crore on RCFL. On the complaint of Bank of Maharashtra, CBI has registered a criminal case against Reliance Commercial Finance Limited, its directors and some unknown bank officials. RCFL’s account was declared NPA on March 25, 2020. On October 4, 2025, the bank put it in the category of fraud. The bank alleges that the company caused a loss of Rs 57.47 crore to them.

CBI raided, found many important evidences

According to Bank of Maharashtra, the company was taking loans totaling Rs 9,280 crore from several banks and NBFCs. CBI will now investigate whether all these banks have also been caused similar losses. In this case, after the warrant received from the court, CBI started a raid operation at the office of RCFL in Mumbai and the house of company director Devang Praveen Modi in Pune. CBI has found many important documents during the raid.

RHFL accused of bank fraud of Rs 228.06 crore

At the same time, CBI has taken major action against Reliance Home Finance Limited (RHFL), a Reliance ADA Group company, in a bank fraud case of Rs 228.06 crore. The agency has registered a criminal case against the company, its directors and some unidentified bank officials. This action has been taken on the basis of the complaint of Union Bank of India.
The bank alleges that the company conspired and took the loan wrongly and caused a loss of Rs 228.06 crore to the bank. RHFL’s account was declared NPA on September 30, 2019 and was put in the fraud category on October 10, 2024.

What was revealed in the CBI investigation?

According to Union Bank, Reliance Home Finance (RHFL) had taken total loans of more than Rs 5,572 crore from various banks and financial institutions. Now CBI is investigating the entire matter whether the company cheated all the banks in the same way.

Violent raid operation started after court order

CBI took search warrant from the court and started raids at several places in Mumbai on Tuesday (December 9, 2025). Among the places where CBI searched
• Two offices of Reliance Home Finance (RHFL).
• House of Jai Anmol Ambani (son of Anil Ambani and director of the company at that time)
• Includes the house of former RHFL CEO Ravindra Sudhalkar.

During the raid, many important documents were found, which have been taken into custody by the CBI. At present the search operation is going on.

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has arrested a person in connection with the 36-year-old Rubaiya Saeed kidnapping case. Let us tell you that this case is related to Rubaiya Sayeed, daughter of former Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir and the then Union Home Minister, Mufti Mohammad Sayeed. During that time, Rubaiya Saeed was kidnapped for the release of jailed militants of Jammu and Kashmir Liberation Front (JKLF). Rubaiya Saeed is the chief of People’s Democratic Party (PDP) and sister of former Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir Mehbooba Mufti.

Rubaiya Saeed was released 5 days after being kidnapped. At that time, the VP Singh government at the Center had accepted the demand of the terrorists and released five JKLF terrorists. Rubaiya Sayeed now lives in Tamil Nadu and is also a CBI witness in this case. CBI took over this case in the early 1990s.

Arrest made from Srinagar

The person arrested by CBI has been identified as Shafaat Ahmed Shunglu, son of Saif-ud-Din, a former member of Jammu Kashmir Liberation Front, who is said to be a resident of Howl area of Srinagar in the old city. Let us tell you that accused Shunglu was currently living in Ishbar of Nishat area of Srinagar, from where CBI has taken him into custody from Police Station Nishat.

Yasin Malik’s name among the main accused

Sources familiar with the matter said the arrests come as part of the Central Investigation Agency’s ongoing crackdown on the 1989 kidnapping case, in which several accused have been interrogated in recent years as the trial is going on in a designated court.

Jammu and Kashmir Liberation Front (JKLF) chairman Yasin Malik, who was the commander in chief of the terrorist group at that time, is one of the main accused in this case and his trial is also going on.
Once again the agencies have achieved great success in catching fugitive criminals who have fled the country and fled abroad. Taking major action, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has succeeded in bringing back fugitive Jagdish Punetha, who was hiding in the United Arab Emirates (UAE), to India. Punetha was caught and brought back to India on Thursday (November 13, 2025) with the help of Interpol channels and UAE officials.

Let us tell you that Uttarakhand Police had registered a case of fraud and criminal conspiracy against Jagdish Punetha in Pithoragarh police station in 2021. After the case was registered, the accused Punetha had fled to UAE. On the request of Uttarakhand Police, the Central Investigation Agency had issued a red notice from Interpol on 6 May 2025.
CBI and UAE officials worked together
After the issue of red notice, CBI remained in constant touch with UAE officials and Punetha was tracked in collaboration with them. UAE police caught Jagdish Punetha and then CBI coordinated the entire process of bringing him to India. Let us tell you that a team of Uttarakhand Police also went to UAE and reached Delhi with him on 13 November.

What is red notice and how does it work?
Red Notice is an international alert of Interpol, which is sent to police agencies around the world. This notice helps a lot in catching criminals hiding in any country. In India, CBI is the national agency of Interpol and sends information related to Interpol to agencies across the country through the BHARATPOL system. With the coordination of CBI and Interpol, more than 150 fugitive criminals have been brought back to India in the last few years. In this context, the return of Jagdish Punetha back to India is being considered a big success for the central agency.

Truble For Anil Ambani: Troubles have increased for Anil Ambani’s Reliance Group, which is stuck in the bank loan fraud case. The Ministry of Corporate Affairs (MCA) has now started a new investigation amidst the already ongoing investigations by the central investigating agencies- ED, CBI and SEBI. The ministry has ordered an investigation into alleged misuse and misappropriation of funds in several group companies, such as Reliance Infrastructure, Reliance Communications, Reliance Commercial Finance and CLE Private Limited.

According to reports, the ministry’s preliminary investigation has indicated serious irregularities and large-scale embezzlement of funds under the Companies Act. On this basis, the case has now been handed over to the Serious Fraud Investigation Office (SFIO).

Investigation handed over to SFIO

The SFIO will now find out between which units of the group the funds were transferred, how the money flowed, and who had the role at the senior management level. Action will be taken after the investigation is completed. This step has come at a time when ED has intensified action against debt-ridden Reliance Group companies.

Earlier this week, the agency seized assets worth about Rs 7,500 crore of Reliance Group. These include 30 properties of Reliance Infrastructure and properties belonging to Adhar Property Consultancy, Mohanbir Hi-tech Build, Gamesa Investment Management, Vihaan43 Realty and Campion Properties. According to the ED, these attachments relate to the multi-crore bank fraud case involving Reliance Infrastructure.

Investigation on loan worth Rs 40,000 crore

The ED case focuses on loans taken by Reliance Communications (RCOM) and its affiliates between 2010 and 2012. According to the agency, the total outstanding is Rs 40,185 crore and five banks have declared these loan accounts as ‘fraud’.

Investigators say these funds were diverted to other group units, sent to related companies and used to repay old loans – a violation of loan terms. ED alleged that the money raised for business operations was used for “evergreening of debt” i.e. repaying old loans by taking new loans.

ED has said in its statement that between 2010 and 2012, RCom and its group companies collected thousands of crores of rupees from banks, out of which Rs 19,694 crores are still outstanding. These accounts have become NPA and five banks have declared them fraud.

CBI has once again achieved great success. The agency, with the cooperation of the Ministry of External Affairs and the Ministry of Home Affairs, has succeeded in bringing back absconding criminal Lakhwinder Kumar, associated with the Lawrence Bishnoi gang, from America to India.

Many serious cases are registered against Lakhwinder Kumar in Haryana. He faces charges like firing, extortion, intimidation, possession of illegal weapons and attempt to murder. Haryana Police had been running a campaign in search of him for a long time.

Inquiries will be held regarding the cases registered in Haryana

CBI had issued a Red Corner Notice against Lakhwinder Kumar through Interpol on 26 October 2024. This notice is sent to the police agencies of all the countries at the international level, so that the absconding criminals can be tracked.

Lakhwinder was deported from America and brought to India on 25 October 2025. Haryana Police team took him into custody at Delhi Airport. It is being told that now he will be brought directly to Haryana, where he will be interrogated in the cases registered against him.

What is the real work of Interpol?

CBI works as the National Central Bureau (NCB) of Interpol in India and connects agencies across the country through the Bharatpol network. It was told by CBI that in the last few years, more than 130 absconding criminals have been brought back to India through Interpol.

Haryana government is going to hand over the investigation into the death of son of former Punjab DGP Mohammad Mustafa to CBI. Haryana Government has written a letter to the Central Government in this regard. However, according to police officials, the investigation of the case will go to CBI only after the Haryana government gives permission to implement the Delhi Special Police Establishment Act in the state.

In the case of the death of Mohammad Mustafa’s son Akil Akhtar, Panchkula police registered a case of murder against Mustafa, his wife and former Punjab minister Razia Sultana, her daughter and daughter-in-law.

Akil died on 16 October

Akil Akhtar died on the late night of 16 October at his MDC residence in Panchkula. The family initially said it was a death due to medicine overdose.

Akil’s video was revealed

After this, a video of Akil Akhtar surfaced on August 27, in which he mentioned the illicit relationship between his father and his wife and made serious allegations against the family members of conspiring to murder him.

Akil made serious allegations against mother and sister

In this video, he had also made serious allegations against his mother Razia Sultana and sister. On the basis of this video and allegations, his neighbor Shamsuddin Chaudhary, living in Malerkotla, had submitted a complaint to the Police Commissioner of Panchkula. Acting on this complaint, Mata Mansa Devi police station of Panchkula has registered a case under 103 (1), 61 BNS against four people including former DGP Mohammad Mustafa, his wife Razia Sultana, daughter-in-law and daughter and started investigation.

Akil was a lawyer in the High Court

Akil Akhtar was a lawyer in Punjab and Haryana High Court. After the FIR was registered in this case, the troubles of former DGP Mohammad Mustafa and his family increased.

Mohammad Mustafa retired from the post of DGP in 2021

35-year-old Akil Akhtar, son of former Punjab Director General of Police (DGP) Mohammad Mustafa, was taken to the hospital at around 9.30 pm on October 16, but by then he had died, after which the police registered a case and started investigation. Let us tell you that Akil’s father Mohammad Mustafa was a 1985 batch IPS officer. He retired from the post of DGP in the year 2021.

CBI has arrested Punjab Police’s Ropar Range DIG Harcharan Singh Bhullar and a private person in a bribery case of Rs 8 lakh. The arrested officer is a 2009 batch IPS officer and was currently posted as DIG of Ropar Range. CBI recovered many luxury items during raids at DIG’s house and premises.

According to CBI, the DIG is accused of demanding a bribe of Rs 8 lakh from a businessman in exchange for settling the FIR registered against him and not taking any further police action. Apart from this, he was also demanding to take money illegally every month.

CBI played a game to catch DIG red handed

After receiving the complaint, CBI registered a case on October 16 and laid a trap in Sector-21, Chandigarh and caught the accused’s middleman red handed while taking Rs 8 lakh.
Ropar Range DIG Harcharan Singh Bhullar in Punjab was arrested by the CBI on Thursday (October 16, 2025) afternoon. This arrest is said to be related to a high profile bribery case. It is being told that a scrap businessman of Mandi Gobindgarh had accused the DIG of taking a bribe of Rs 5 lakh. The police have not yet issued any official statement on this.

Arrested red handed taking bribe
According to CBI sources, the DIG was arrested red handed while taking bribe. The complainant, a resident of Fatehgarh Sahib, had alleged that DIG Bhullar had demanded a huge amount to settle a case and had called him to the Mohali office to give the first instalment. Based on this information, the CBI team raided and arrested the DIG on the spot.

Complaints were being received for a long time
CBI had been receiving complaints against this senior officer for a long time that he used to demand money in return for providing relief in cases. Based on this information, the agency laid the trap in advance and carried out the trap operation as per the plan. As soon as the officer took the bribe of Rs 5 lakh, the CBI team raided the spot and arrested him red handed. Information about bundles of cash being recovered during the search has also come to light.

Raids on office and residence also
After the arrest, the team raided the DIG’s office and residence. Investigators suspect that documents of property acquired through corruption may be found from here. A senior CBI official said that a case has been registered against the accused under the Prevention of Corruption Act and his interrogation is going on. There has been a stir in the police administration after the arrest.
