This time the result of CBSE 12th Board Exam 2026 brought news of happiness as well as concern for lakhs of students. According to the data released by the board, the total pass percentage this year was 85.20%, which is considered to be the lowest figure after Covid. While last year the pass percentage was 88.39%, this time there was a decline of about 3 percent.

This time CBSE had made a big change in the way of checking copies. For the first time, the 12th answer sheets were checked digitally i.e. through on-screen marking system. It is believed that due to this, more strictness and transparency was seen in giving numbers this time.

On-screen marking system implemented for the first time

This year, CBSE got more than 98 lakh answer sheets checked on computer screen. About 70 thousand teachers were appointed for this. The board says that with this new system the copies could be examined in a more accurate and fair manner.

Earlier, during manual checking of copies, many times mistakes were made in totaling or numbering, but now in the digital system the possibility of such mistakes has reduced considerably. According to the board, in this new process teachers can give marks only as per the fixed marking scheme.

Also read – After PM Modi’s visit, it will become easier for Indian students to go to Italy, they will get new opportunities

Why did the result drop compared to previous years?

If we look at the data of the last few years, the results during and after Covid were much better. In the year 2021, board exams were not held and students were given marks on the basis of internal assessment. At that time the pass percentage had reached more than 99%.

After this, in 2022, the examination was conducted in two phases and the syllabus was also reduced, due to which the pass percentage went above 92%. But now CBSE is gradually returning to the old strict system. This is the reason why this time the result is being considered more real.

The board had made preparations in advance

CBSE had made huge preparations in advance to implement the on-screen marking system. Teachers across the country were given training. They were given information on how to use the online portal and mock tests were also conducted. Apart from this, schools were instructed to ensure computer labs and better internet facilities. More than 88 thousand computers and about 6 thousand evaluation centers were made across the country.
