There is now a new twist in the cyber security issue of the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE). 19-year-old ethical hacker Nisarga Adhikari has claimed that CBSE has invited her to work with a team of cyber experts from IIT to identify and fix security vulnerabilities in its IT systems.

Nature officer told ABP News that he has been contacted in this regard through both text message and email. According to him, it was written in the message sent to him that after recent discussions, he was being invited to join the cyber security team of IIT as an engineer.

Nothing from the board yet

But this claim has not been confirmed yet. No official statement has been issued by CBSE in this regard. At present this claim has been made only by the Nature Officer. Nisarg Adhikari came into limelight last month when he made public information about security flaws in a portal related to CBSE student data. After this, taking the matter seriously, the help of experts was taken and cyber security experts of IIT were added for investigation and rectification work.

IIT team is doing this work
According to reports, a team of experts from IIT Madras and IIT Kanpur stayed at the CBSE headquarters for about two weeks and reviewed the security arrangements and technical structure of various portals. During this period, many technical changes were made to remove security flaws and make the system more secure.

After these reforms, the CBSE re-evaluation portal was relaunched on June 2. Immediately after the portal was relaunched, large-scale cyber attacks were attempted on it. On June 2, approximately 13 lakh login attempts were recorded within just two minutes. At the same time, on June 3, this number reached more than 30 lakhs.

Technical experts believe that these attacks may fall in the category of Denial of Service (DoS) attacks, the purpose of which is to disrupt services by creating excessive pressure on the server. However, IIT experts say that due to the new load management system and security improvements, the portal continued to function normally despite these heavy traffic and attacks and no major damage was reported.

Help to CBSE team

CBSE’s in-house developer team was continuously working on the system, but it needed adequate technical guidance and expert assistance. For this reason, teams of external experts, especially IIT institutes, were included in the process.

Why was the responsibility handed over?

Earlier, security audit was conducted by the auditors associated with CERT-In, but they were not able to identify some important security flaws. After this, responsibility has been entrusted to IIT experts for detailed technical evaluation.
