CBSE Class 12 Result Controversy: Some students gathered outside the National War Memorial against the CBSE’s On-Screen Marking (OSM) process and raised the demand for free re-checking. During the demonstration, Delhi Police detained about 7-8 students. Not only this, the posters and banners of the students were also confiscated by the police.

Students say that the board exam copies were not checked properly and it is wrong to charge huge fees for re-checking. At the same time, regarding this action, the police told the students that demonstration is not allowed at this place and they will be taken to Jantar Mantar. Students have expressed displeasure over the action of CBSE and police.

Students get punishment for CBSE’s mistake

Ishaan, a student involved in the protest, said that CBSE is at fault but the students are having to bear the punishment. He said that earlier re-checking of the entire copy was done for Rs 500, which has now been increased to Rs 700. He says that if there was proper step marking then so many students would not have failed in Maths. At the same time, Divisha told that she has qualified JEE but due to low marks in the board, her criteria is not being fulfilled. He said that he got only 21 marks out of 80 in Maths, whereas this never happened in pre-boards. He also said that students sent mails to CBSE but did not receive any response.

Students got less marks in many subjects

Gunjan says that the marks in subjects like Maths, Accounts and Business Studies are much lower than in Pre-Board. Pulkit told that he got only 15 marks out of 80 in Maths. He says that he has been admitted to further courses and the fees have also been deposited, but now his future is in limbo. He said that CBSE should apologize publicly in this matter. Amit said that many students are under mental stress due to poor marking, claiming that some students have even committed suicide. He says that in many subjects including Physics and Chemistry, marks have been given much less than expected and re-checking has now become a compulsion.

Akshay Raj said that the re-checking fees are very high and separate money is being taken for each question, alleging that this process is unfair to the students. Students claim that a large number of students have failed in the science stream and the entire process does not seem fair. The protesting students said that they will continue the protest every day until they get a satisfactory answer. Delhi Police bus reached the spot and the students were seated in it and removed from there.

CBSE Answer Sheet Rechecking Fees: The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has recently taken a big decision for the students. Amidst the copy checking controversy and questions raised regarding marking, the board has announced that now students can check their answer sheets for just Rs 100. Earlier, students had to pay Rs 700 to see their answer sheet. Whereas for re-examination of any particular question, only Rs 25 will be charged per question.

Along with this decision, the board also made it clear that this step has been taken in the interest of transparency and students. Board officials, understanding the concerns of the students and their parents, said that the provision of revaluation has always been there in CBSE and now it has been made easier through digital medium.

What was said in the press conference?

CBSE Chairman Rahul Singh and School Education Secretary Sanjay Kumar gave information on the issues related to On-Screen Marking (OSM) raised by Class 12 students. He told that there is concern and restlessness among the students regarding OSM. Some students feel that they should have got more marks. OSM was first implemented in 2014 and has been reintroduced this year. This system is also adopted in foreign countries and big institutions like Mumbai University, DU, Institute of Chartered Accountants etc. Sanjay Kumar said that the board is capable of handling the entire system through digital system. This makes the marking process fast, secure and transparent.

What is On-Screen Marking (OSM) and Security?

This time when the 12th examination was conducted, approximately 98 lakh 66 thousand answer sheets were scanned and sent on a secure digital platform in PDF form. Three levels of security were decided, so that no disturbance occurs. Due to light ink or scanning, about 13 thousand copies were sent for manual rechecking. Due to the digital system, human errors in totaling and adding numbers were almost eliminated. The marking is recorded step-by-step, ensuring transparency.

When will the answer sheet be accessible to students?

CBSE made it clear that if any student has any problem with his marks or evaluation, he can see the scanned copy of his answer sheet. The fee for viewing the answer sheet has been fixed at Rs 100. Whereas for re-examination of any particular question, only Rs 25 will be charged per question. If the numbers increase during investigation, the extra fees will be refunded. This process will start from May 19. Students can easily view their scanned copy, get number verification done and apply for revaluation.

What was said about revaluation?

Sanjay Kumar and Rahul Singh also told that the provision of revaluation has always been there in CBSE, and now it has become easier through the digital system. All papers will be examined carefully and transparently. Teachers and examiners are trained and full attention has been paid to safety in the process. The Board takes the concerns of students and their parents seriously.
