GST 2.0 Consumer Rights: From September 22, new GST Reforms (GST 2.0) have been implemented by the Indian government. There are now only two GST slabs under these new systems. One is 5% and the other 18%. Now 12% and 18% slab has been abolished. The purpose of this reform is to make tax easier and provide monthly savings on household goods. However, after this an important question arises whether the companies will bring this profit to the consumers? Or they can eliminate GST cuts by increasing prices. Let’s know

Can companies eliminate GST cuts?

Actually, companies can increase prices to maintain profit margin. After this, the expected benefit of GST cuts will be over. With this, companies have the freedom to fix their prices. Not only this, for small items, sometimes companies change the quantity instead of the price. This gives less benefits to the consumer.

Government measures

To prevent all these problems, the government has implemented strict monitoring and enforcement mechanisms. In fact, under the Consumer Protection Act 2019, the Central Consumer Authority can check the price violation on its initiative or based on the complaint of any consumer. Along with this, the Central Board of Indirect Tax and Custom has also ordered to monitor the prices of 54 essential commodities for 6 months.

Not only this, companies have been allowed to use a sticker with revised prices with original MRP by 31 December 2025 for old stocks. Along with this, field verification will be done to ensure whether GST tax cuts are reaching consumers or not to ensure that GST network and Ministry of Consumer Affairs using it.

How to complain for not getting the benefit of GST

If you find that a company is not giving the benefit of the cut in GST, then you can complain about it. To complain, you can directly contact the National Consumer Helpline at toll free number 1915 or 1800114000 available in 17 languages. Apart from this, you can also file a complaint through the National Consumer Helpline website or Umang App.

GST portal can be used for complaints related to tax. Tax pair can find a solution by giving your GSTIN, mobile number and details of the problem.

If you shop online and ever felt that the website forced you to take a decision, like “hurry, offer is over” or “The price was quietly increased without telling the extra charge”, then you are probably victims of dark patterns. Now the government has taken strict steps on this.

What are dark patterns?

Dark patterns means such designs or interface tricks, which make online buyers in deception and make them decide. These include cleverness like “Fals Arjesia” (such as false fear of limited stock), “basket sneeneg” (adding charge without telling) and “subscription trap”.

CCPA’s big step

The Central Consumer Protection Authority (CCPA) has given strict warning to all e-commerce companies to remove dark patterns from their platforms. For this, they have to audit themselves within 3 months and ensure that there is no fraud or misleading trade practice on their platforms.

The government wants companies to give declaration themselves that they are not involved in a dark pattern. This will strengthen confidence between consumers and online platforms and will make a fair digital ecosystem.

Action on those who violate guidelines

The CCPA has already issued notices to some e-commerce companies, which are accused of breaking dark pattern guidelines. The authority has clearly stated that it is keeping a close watch on such fraudulent design techniques.

JWG responsibility

The Department of Consumer Affairs has formed a joint working group (JWG), which includes representatives of ministries, regulators, consumer organizations and law university. This group will identify dark patterns on e-commerce and will inform the government regularly. Also, the campaign will be recommended to spread awareness among consumers.

13 dark patterns have been identified

The guidelines issued by the government in 2023 have identified 13 such dark patterns, which are usually used to confuse or cheat consumers on e-commerce and digital platforms. Their purpose is to force consumers to take such decisions, which they usually do not take.

False Urgency means creating an atmosphere of false hurry, such as “just a few minutes left”, so that you make shopping without thinking.

In basket sneaking, another product or extra charge is added to your cart without telling.

Confirm shaming occurs when you refuse an offer or service and you are shown a message to be ashamed, like “Do you really want to leave this magnificent deal?”

Subscription trap is the way in which a service is subscribed without giving you clear information and then it is difficult to cancel it.

Interface Interference means a design that you accidentally click that you did not want.

In bait and switch, you are brought to the site by luring a good offer, but in reality it is not available.

Drip pricing is a very common move, in the beginning low price is shown, but many hidden charges are added at the time of payment.

Disguised advertisements are advertisements that look like general information or content, so that you do not understand that it is Ed.

Nagging means sending notifications or popups for something again and again, so that you can accept it in compulsion.

In Trick Wording, such words are used that consumers are confused, such as “now” means “yes”.

Saas Billing is a software service trick in which you are charged again and again, even if you are not using it.

Rogue malwares are software that can enter your device without your knowledge and activate the data or activate unwanted services.

All these patterns have been identified by the government in the interest of consumers so that there is an atmosphere of transparency and trust on digital platforms.

Also read: HAL, not BEL … Keep an eye on these 3 companies in the defense sector, money is made from gunpowder here!

Caste Census: In the CCPA meeting held on Wednesday (June 4, 2025) regarding caste census, the Modi government has decided that caste census will be done in the original census itself. This time questions related to caste will also be asked during the census. Earlier, the census was to be held in 2021, but had to postpone due to Corona.

Government employees are appointed for census

Government employees are appointed for census in the country, which are called enumerators. Employees appointed for the census go to the fixed areas and gather many kinds of information. The government gives them a special ID card and if there is any kind of doubt, you can ask them to show the identity card.

According to the official website of the census, it is done in two parts. First Housing and Second Housing Census. Many types of questions related to the house are asked in housing, which contain questions related to the possession of electricity, drinking water, toilets, property and property.

A total of 29 questions are asked during the process

The second form of the census is of the National Population Register. In this, questions are asked about the members of the house. Such as- name, gender, mother’s name, father’s name, date of birth, marital status, temporary address and questions are asked questions. A total of 29 such questions are asked during the process of population.

How is the census data base ready?

According to the claims, whatever information related to the Census, the Government of India, is not shared with the private agency. The census employees who collect the data are filtered. After dividing it into the category, it is finalized in the National Population Register. In this way, the data base of the census is prepared which the government uses.

There is a provision for census in India, which is known as the Census Act 1948. This provision gives the central government the right to conduct census and make rules for it. Along with this, a detailed figure of census is kept confidential.

When did the census started since?

The first census in the country was in 1872 during the reign of the then Governor General Lord Mayo, while the entire census took place in 1881. After this, the trend of census started every 10 years. Before independence, the census was conducted in 1881, 1891, 1901, 1911, 1921, 1931 and 1941. After independence, the first census took place in 1951. Then 1961, 1971, 1991, 2001 and 2011 census was conducted.

Boycott Pakistan Movement: After the incident of Pahalgam, the increased tension and operation of operation vermilion, the neighboring enemy country Pakistan has been completely breathless. After bringing Pakistan on his knees, now an attempt is being made to break it more by hitting it financially. This is the reason that the boycott campaign against Pakistan in the country is now gaining more emphasis.

Notice has been issued by the Central Consumer Protection Authority i.e. CCPA to other companies including Amazon and Flipkart and it has been said that they should remove the Pakistani flags and the goods there.

Baycott Pak’s campaign intensified

The CCPA says that selling Pakistan goods and its flag on e-commerce sites is openly a violation of laws related to sales. In such a situation, it should be removed immediately. Consumer Affairs Minister Prahlad Joshi, while posting on his ex account, has instructed to remove it immediately.

He has written in his post that notice has been sent by the government to e-commerce platforms. He has written in it that these insensitive things will not be tolerated and all e-commerce companies have been instructed to follow the laws of the country.

Campaigned against Pakistan’s friend Turkey

A similar campaign is also going on in the country against Türkiye, which supports Pakistan. In India, people are now not only by boys for Turki goods, but are also avoiding traveling there. Along with this, they are also appealing to tourism. The Turki Boycuts are calling at the time that a record number of Indian tourists were going there.
