The first match of the tri-series between India-A and Sri Lanka-A was played on Tuesday (09 June). A controversial decision of runout in the match caught everyone’s attention. Something like this happened, the ball hit the stump directly, but still the umpire declared the runout decision of Sri Lankan batsman Chamika Karunaratne as not out, on which the Indian players got angry.

This incident happened in the second i.e. 42nd over of Sri Lanka’s innings. So let us know why the umpire gave the decision of not out even after a direct hit?

Karunaratne ran for runs by playing a shot towards backward point. But he got a signal from the other end to return and he ran to his crease again. The Indian player bowled the ball and it seemed that the ball directly hit the stump.

The matter was sent to the third umpire. Replays found that the bails above the stumps fell from the Indian wicketkeeper’s gloves before the ball arrived. After this the ball hit the stump. However, even then the batsman was not inside the crease. But the bails had fallen even before the ball hit. According to cricket rules, in this situation the player has to uproot the stump with the ball in his hand, only then he will be able to make a valid runout. Therefore, it was considered illegal and declared not out.

India-A won the match by 8 runs

In the match, India A, batting first, scored 277 runs for 6 wickets on the board in 50 overs. Ruturaj Gaikwad played the biggest innings for the team and scored 101 runs in 114 balls with the help of 6 fours and 3 sixes. Apart from this, Tilak Verma played an inning of 60 runs.

Then Sri Lanka A, which came out for the chase, was all out for 269 runs in 48.5 overs. Captain Sahan Arachchige played the biggest innings for Sri Lanka and scored 74 runs in 72 balls with the help of 6 fours and 2 sixes. During this, Arshad Khan, Anukul Roy, Ayush Badoni and Vipraj Nigam took 2 wickets each for India. Anshul Kamboj took 1 wicket.
