Recently, a serious case has come to light from Israel, where a 17 year old girl had to be admitted to the hospital after getting hair straightening done. According to the report, after this treatment his kidneys suffered serious damage. The girl was admitted to Shaare Zedek Medical Center with severe kidney failure.

This is not the first case. Earlier last month, a 25-year-old woman was also admitted to the hospital due to kidney damage after hair straightening. Due to the continuous emergence of such cases, the question has started to arise whether hair straightening is really safe.

According to the hospital report, shortly after the hair straightening treatment, the girl started complaining of continuous vomiting, nausea and severe headache. When his condition worsened, he was immediately taken to the hospital, where investigation revealed that his kidneys were seriously affected.

Relation between hair straightening and kidney damage

This danger has been confirmed in a study conducted in 2023 by Professor Linda Shavit and Dr. Alon Benaya, head of the Nephrology Institute. In this research, cases of 26 women aged 14 to 58 years were studied, who did not have any serious disease before, but they suddenly reached the hospital with severe kidney failure.

Researchers found that all these women had undergone glyoxylic acid based hair straightening treatment. It is believed that this chemical can enter the body and have a negative effect on the kidneys.
