Former Indian cricketer Cheteshwar Pujara believes that if the Indian team wants turning wickets, then the batsmen will have to play differently. Team India had to face defeat by 30 runs in the first match of the Test series played against South Africa in Kolkata. In the second innings, Team India got the target of only 124 runs to win, but the host team was limited to only 93 runs.

From the very first day of the match, Pujara had raised questions on the attitude of the Indian batsmen on a pitch with uneven bounce and turn. However, he also said that only the batsmen are not responsible for this.

Cheteshwar Pujara said on ‘Geostar’, “I don’t believe that the Indian team is losing because of changes at home. If you had lost because of changes in England or Australia, it would have been acceptable, but this team has talent and potential. You look at the first-class records of Yashasvi Jaiswal, KL Rahul, Shubman Gill. Washington Sundar batted at number three in this match. Everyone’s records are very good. Despite this, if you lose at home, it means that something is wrong. Is.”

He said, “If you had played the same match on a good wicket, India’s chances of winning would have been very high. On such a track, your chances of winning are less and the opposition team is equal to you. India has so much talent that even the India A team can beat South Africa. So if you say that this defeat was due to changes, then it will not be acceptable.”

Pujara said, “You can’t just blame the batsmen for this kind of wicket because first of all, if you want to play on such a wicket, your preparation should be different. Gauti Bhai told that he had asked for this kind of wicket, but it was not easy to bat on. Look at the statistics of both the teams, only one batsman scored a half-century. This shows that it was not a good wicket.”

The former cricketer said, “If you have to play on such pitches, then the batsmen have to be prepared accordingly. It seemed that they were not prepared. It was expected that this wicket would be a little good, which would have a little turn and here you can bat well and score runs, but this wicket was not like that. If the Indian team wants such turning wickets, then the batsmen will have to play in a different way.”

The Indian team has lagged 0-1 in the two-match Test series. The second match of the series is to be played in Guwahati from 22nd November, by winning which Team India would like to end the series at 1-1.

Pujara has played an important role in India’s many historic victories in Test cricket.

Pujara has a very big hand in Kohli’s runs- Ashwin

Ashwin said on his YouTube channel, “Whether you believe or not, Pujara’s contribution to number 3 has been very important in making Virat Kohli’s run. I also have an example of this. In the last Test played in the Wanderers against South Africa, the pitch was considered dangerous for some time. In that match, Pujara played 53 balls to open the account in that match. Wanderers’ pitch was very difficult, the ball was moving around and it was very difficult to play. “

Ashwin compared Pujara to the character of Game of Thrones

Ashwin compared Pujara to the character of the famous show Game of Thrones. Ashwin said, “Cricket lover fans definitely knows the contribution of Cheteshwar Pujara. If you have seen the Game of Thrones, there is a character in it, ‘White Walker’. I call Pujara the same kind of ‘white walker’. He walks slowly, but never leaves the field.”

In the year 2025, many Indian legendary cricketers have retired one by one. Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma have retired from the Test, Varun Aaron and Piyush Chawla have also retired. Recently, Cheteshwar Pujara has also said goodbye to his cricket career. Often, there will be a question in the minds of people whether players suddenly declare retirement, or there is a process to retire.

How do cricketers take retirement?

Whenever an Indian cricketer retires, he first has to inform the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI). Apart from this, the player also has to warn the team management and the head coach with his decision. On many occasions, cricketers directly contact the Chief Selector and say that they have made up their mind to retire. However, it is not necessary that the player has to give this information to the Chief Selector. But it is necessary to inform the board about this.

The cricketer’s decision to retire is completely personal. No coach, staff member or BCCI official can force the players to retire. Players can declare their retirement in many ways. Cheteshwar Pujara recently informed about retirement through social media. Prior to him, Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli also announced his retirement from the Test on social media.

Apart from this, players can also announce retirement in a press conference. Ravichandran Ashwin confirmed his retirement at the press conference during the Australian tour.
