He wrote books like “Shivcharitra” (Marathi), “Shivaji: Hiz Life and Times, Tipu Age Rieli Vaz and Maratha Navy”. He was associated with institutions like India History Amendment Board and Bhandarkar Oriental Research Institute.

Born in 1947, Mendele did a post -graduation in Defense Studies from the University of Pune. His research was focused on the life and military operations of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj, in which he analyzed primary sources like letters, records and contemporary documents.

Mehendale gave many lectures on Shivaji Maharaj and tried to bring out the less known aspects of his life. His working style was based on proof-based statements and intensive investigation of historical facts. In recent years, he was doing research and writing on Islam and Aurangzeb.

There is a wave of mourning in the history and literature world with the death of Mendele. His contemporary historians and research institutes paid tribute to him and described his contribution as unique. His research on Maratha history is still considered authentic.
